During the NFL preseason, in a thread about how Frye looked, I made the contention that even though Maurice Carthon is a horible play calling offiensive coordinator (does not spread the field and does not use the various aspects of offense to keep the defense off balance), they were intentionally keeping plays very tame in order to keep their cards close to the vest until the season started.Well, after having witnessed a few games during the season, I realized that Carthon really wasn't hiding much.... he was just THAT BAD.Even if the Browns do not bring in a new O.C. mid-season, I expect (I hope) that the play calling will now begin to spread the field more on defenses, and more importantly, allow Charlie Frye to play to his talents (including allowing him to roll out more).

Stop me when I heard this story before. Insert Couch for Frye and Arians for Carthon. Sounds like a good KNR subject for hours of uninformative radio.

Drawing historical parallels does not mean anything about the results of the change will be the same.I was calling for Carthon's head long before this, but I did not get on here to post a "told ya so", nor did I want to come on here to say that the Browns are going to start winning all of a sudden. I am merely stating that Frye is going to have a better chance to shine now.[edit] oh yeah, and I would also like it to be known that I am not calling Carthon a bad person or bad coach. He was just a horid play caller and tactical schemer.

Who knows what will happen.I do know this, there is way too much talent on the offensive side of the ball to be last in the league. MC thought like a FB and played like a FB. On top of that he was said to be a bit of a "thug" and would bully to get his way (bullying politically not physically). With any luck at all, they'll now let the talent dictate the type of game they play. Let Charlie be Charlie, let Braylon be Braylon, K3-K3, 34-34, and forget about trying to frikin feature the FB.I'm going down on this..................the Browns massacre the Jets Sunday. A real beat down, release of frustration. It could happen. ;) Dream on...........when pigs fly, cars run on water, Santa comes and K ent gets a FB team.

In classic Cleveland fashion:Browns' Carthon out; Crennel says he wasn't firedESPN.com news servicesBEREA, Ohio -- Maurice Carthon resigned as Cleveland's offensive coordinator Tuesday, two days after the Browns' NFL-worst offense scored seven points in a loss to Denver.Carthon, whose head-scratching play calls and personnel moves angered fans and puzzled players, was in his second year running the offense.Despite having two weeks to devise a game plan, the Browns (1-5) picked up only 165 total yards in losing 17-7 to the Broncos and are ranked at or near the bottom of the league in most offensive categories.Browns coach Romeo Crennel said Carthon came into his office Monday and offered his resignation. The pair talked and after their discussion, Crennel decided to accept it from his close friend for the "good of the organization and the fans."stay tuned for more...

carthon's replacement is jeff davidson, who is an akron native, according to reports. that crennell stuck so long with carthon has made me doubt me doubt romeo's judgment. from the browns games i've seen, it appeared the offensive strategy was to bore their opponents into submission.let's hope the new guy lets charlie audible at the line, something that carthon was said to be against.

1 for 11 on 3rd down conversions, 34 yds net rushing. The Browns will have some high draft picks...who are the best OL prospects in college?
Don't forget LeCharles Bentley is coming back next year. That will help tremendously both on and off the field.

bentley's recovery has been complicated due to his staph infection and his return now appears to be pushed back. in fact, i've seen some suggestions that this injury is possibly a career-ender. whoever did the color commentary on sunday's game said something like "this franchise has already ruined one quarterback" (couch), and watching charlie take his weekly beating, you have to wonder how long he can last. its hard to watch.

I heard a rumor that Bentley has developed a staff infection in his knee and is now doubtful for the start of next season. When he returns he will be a big plus. The guard and tackle play has been poor. Andruzzi and Coleman are past their prime. Tucker still has a few good years left in him at best and Shaffer is just a very average tackle. They need to blow Andruzzi and Coleman out after this year and try to replace them with young talent either through the draft or free agency. I would keep the two tackles for now, but try to get some quality depth at that position because as Browns fans, we know there will be another rash of injuries come next year. It seems that the Browns only have bad luck. One would hope that eventually the law of averages goes in their favor.

The Browns need at least 2 new o-lineman to go with Bentley.I am a little dissapointed in Schaeffer too.D-line help, corner help, o-line help, the Browns have many many needs. Hopefully they have some money under the cap to go along with a high draft pick. They will need all the help they can get.
