zipboy Posted November 5, 2006 Report Posted November 5, 2006 The good1. Best running attack in the last 3 years. On the 4th down call where Kennedy pushed 5 yards up the middle was the best key short yardage push by the OLine in a long time.2. Glad to see Walker get some carries. I like Kennedy, but it is obvious that he is not 100%. Someone mentioned that he never puts his shoulder into people and that was evident yesterday. He is playing hard, but he ran different vs NC State and PSU. Remember the one play where he ran Justin King over? But kudos to DK for a good game.3. Johnny Long's 2 catches on the 1st drive were pivotal. Others have harped about this all year long, but he seems like the best WR to move the chains. Harvey is a big play guy but not a possession guy. I love Jabari's attitude and work ethic. But he still does not look consistently comfortable at WR. On 3rd and 7, I think Long is your best option to get open.4. One of my new favorite Zips is Alex Allen. Looking at body language on the sideline, he is one of the most excited guys out there both for the offense and defense. Also good to see Carlton fired up and into the game on the sidelines. Not getting in for 2 weeks in a row when he was expected to, there was no pouting from him. 5. Saw Brian White flushing off his MAC title ring. Also looked like Brett Biggs was on the sideline. Always good to see the alumni return.6. Nice game by Mackey today. Good plays and bad plays by the defense all day.The bad1. One word to desribe the 2006 Zips is self destruct. If we had lost, this post would have been about the stupid key penalties that we continually get. Does our O Line have the most personal fouls of any OLine ever? I still believe that we have good talent. But we are not the smartest football team around. After 9 games, not much is going to change. 2. How is Andy Wills? I heard on the post game not as bad as thought. I hope that was not his last play of his career.3. After the 1st quarter and a half, the D was on their heels again. I feel like they are holding together by a shoestring.4. The drop off in the Dline has been real noticeable the last 2 weeks after Kiki and Reid are out. Of all the positions where recruiting has hurt us with guys not being here, it is very evident there. Do we go the JUCO route in 07?5. Aaris Reed not in uniform. Any word what happened to him? Did we burn his redshirt?6. Red zone offense is still sporadic. How many goal line picks are we going to have this year? Quote
liljc Posted November 5, 2006 Report Posted November 5, 2006 I have nothing bad to say about the offense. Great push by th o-line. Great running by Kennedy, and Jabari after the catch. I am pretty sure David Harvey is open on EVERY play. Man he is fun to watch! The defense scares me , but Kiki came up big on the last play! That one sent us all home happy, so, I won't bother complaining any further. Go Zips! Quote
ZippyAlum Posted November 5, 2006 Report Posted November 5, 2006 I was very happy to see an increase in the use of the fullback. I think it made a big difference in the running game and in giving Getsy time to throw the ball. We'd be winning big if we had all those penalty yards.PS. I heard there's a family special for the Toledo game but I can't find it on the Akron website. Anyone know where I can get info besides calling the school? Quote
Ballingirl Posted November 5, 2006 Report Posted November 5, 2006 Agreed zipboy. It was nice to see Long on the field again. He has a calmness about him that allows him to settle down and play his game. Good game by Walker. Not a huge amount of yards, but big plays when we needed them. DK hasn't been 100% since the Can't game when he hurt his shoulder. Heard he had to have minor sugery on it after that game. It is still bothering him. Wouldn't expect to see him 100% the rest of the season. Last I heard, Wills possibly tore his MCL. Again, that's just what I heard, but if it's true, he's done. Why was McPherson back in the game yesterday? He hasn't even dressed in i think 2 weeks. I don't know why he was out to begin with, but he was not who I wanted to see taking J. Reid's place. He was in there most of the series when BG make long drives down the field. At this point in the season, I would like to see the #1s left in the game in times where plays need to be made. Sub the #2s in when there's a little room for error. Give the big boys a rest, then get them back in there. I don't like to see the starters out for whole series at a time. There were a few times when Kiki, J. Reid, Grant and Cecchetti were all out at once. I think that's asking for trouble. Quote
T.O Zipfan Posted November 6, 2006 Report Posted November 6, 2006 I think Aaris is still out as a precaution because of the concussion, word is he'll get a medical red shirt for 06 Quote
Lee Adams Posted November 7, 2006 Report Posted November 7, 2006 Lets not get excited about this year. Solich is recruiting Texas and has some big boys who would have gone to Nebraska. If they stay sober they are in. Zips have no chance in that one. At least the Golden Flushes won't go.Need to see Carlton Jackson Now. need a 4-3 D next year. This crap that they run now is weak unless you have a bunch of mobile, agile, hostile line backers and safeties. Zips do not.Divine intervention saved the BG game. Getsy can't do it and when teams gear to stop the run he and the receivers have to carry the team. They can't.The COACHES need some discipline and to exhibit an ability to adjust. The Defense has not all year.6-6 would be good this year.akronoldtimer Quote
