Akron and Can't both want to play YSU. I belive they will pay YSU close to $100,000 to do so. Thats a good investment by Akron and Can't, the YSU fans would come in a group of 8-10,000 people. YSU brought something like 9,000 fans to Pittsburgh 2 years ago. They brought over 3,000 to Penn State this season outdrwaing Akron :wall::wall::wall::wall: So by brining in YSU I would raise our payment to the school. Pitt played YSU for $250,000, Penn State paid 400,000 and I hear YSU and Ohio State's contract is in the millions. I think Pitt is going to up thier payment to play YSU again, so if we want a sold out rubber bowl and a forsure victory were going to have to raise our total we would give YSU for playing us. It would be great to see a lot of YSU fans at the Rubber bowl, and even greater to see them all leave at halftime. Ohh well we would have thier money
If YSU brought 10,000 to the Rubber Bowl, I think they would have more fans their then Akron fans.... I am told from an Akron booster, maybe 1-2 times this year the paid attendance was actually near what it was in butts in the seats! Now still.. YSU would be the underdog, but I don't think it matters in these types of games. It is a rivalry and for pride....YSU oughta defend this rivalry in Youngstown......normal_DSCN2061.jpg

Guys not all YSU fans are like this. Hes just a 12 year old moron who knows nothing of the outside world that is not Youngstown. YSU is a great school and a great football team. It's unfortunate losers like this guy ruin good names of schools. Maybe a ban of this guy should be enforced so he stops ruining names of people like my wife and her brothers and father who attended YSU. It saddens me that 12 year old kids can talk smack on a message board

I actually don't mind eguin. He has his opinions and doesn't seem to be rude. I don't agree with much of what he is saying. I think that the idea of a I-A school traveling to a I-AA is never going to happen. I think that Akron is better served not playing I-AA's unless a last resort. I think that DI-A Non-BCS schools were 28-2 last year against I-AA's and there is a large difference in talent. The Zips haven't played YSU in over a decade and see no need to play them. YSU averaged 14,545 people last year for games. This game would not excite the Akron fanbase and attendance would be average. Lets get NC State here! We have Army, Syracuse, and Indiana coming, what does a game against YSU do for Akron.

I don't see YSU travelling 10K for any game. They only average 14K for home games. Why would the media in Cleveland or Pittsburgh care about an Akron-YSU game. Pitt media will care when we beat Syracuse because they are big east and Cleveland media will care when we beat Indiana because they are big ten. We are not going get where we want to be by playing down a division. If we are stuck, fine schedule a I-AA, but forget about a planned series, no less travelling.

YSU brought 9,000 to Pittsburgh, they brought about 1,000 to Appalachian State which is 9 hours away. They averaged over 16,000 fans this season, I would say they have atleast 7,000 loyal fans that would make the hour plus trip to Akron. The Cleveland and Pittsburgh media covers every YSU game, I saw a 19 action news and WEWS camera at the YSU play-off games. The Pittsburgh media even brought news stations here. One of my friends from Pittsburgh even said they graced the front page of the Pittsburgh post gazette. I'm saying this game would be a for sure win. Will bring a lot of peopleCould be picked up by FSN Ohio, or Sports Time Ohio plus the media attention we will get in Cleveland, Pittsburgh and Youngstown. Love it or hate it Youngstown media covers Akron like it does not exist. I hate it! We need some coverage here in Youngstown too.

Okay first off I don't post on the MACBOARDS. Paladin is not me; he and I are just passionate about YSU Sports. I am sorry you guys do not share the same views of me, most of Youngstown, and Terry Pluto of the ABJ.Your AD had to have some reason for calling YSU up for a game this year... Why? Because a game with YSU would have at least 8,000 more fans than a game vs. North Texas....... I am sorry you view me as arrogant, and o ya I am not 12, double that and you will get my age. YSU will bring more fans than most teams on your schedule, including Can't.Go Penguins--Go Aeros------GO INDIANS!

I'm sorry Indians....Cleveland TV does NOT cover every YSU game. A playoff game...perhaps...but not EVERY game.
I didn't sya TV, the PD and other print papers in cleveland does. I know this because of buddy of mine is a writer who I met up with several times at YSU. Sometimes the Pittsburgh Post has more insightful articles on YSU football then the Youngstown Vindy, Warren Tribune or Mahoning Valley Review had. Nethir the Youngstown Vindy, Warren Tribune or Pittsburgh post have any coverage of Akron and it pisses me off. I have to get the PD in order to read anything, and most of the time I have to read through YSU shit just to get to ours.I think YSU and Akron should meet, it would give me bragging rights with the in-laws. I already got some having our women beat YSU

I think this has more to do with the NCAA allowing I-A to add a twelveth game. The Zips need another home game as we only had 4 home games at the time. Also, NCAA rules state you must have five home games.I think the Zips should consider getting Pitt on the schedule. They might not be inclined to return the games as Pitt has struggled at MAC stadiums. Akron has had success in recruiting WPA and it would be good to showcase to play Pitt.

I guess what threw me off was that you mentioned Channels 5 and 19 in the same sentence.Newspapers, well yeah, doesn't take much to put a blurb in Ohio wrap up. I'm sure they also have the occasional feature. This type of coverage is pretty standard though...I wouldn't expect the Warren, Youngstown or Pittsburgh paper to cover Akron...other than in a MAC roundup or something. But with no MAC schools in the Pittsburgh area...you're not likely to see that. When you are talking coverage, you must be referring to Ohio or conference scores and roundups. I don't see any Youngstown State coverage other than that in Cleveland/Akron media...and unless there's something special to write about..nor should there be. If you're looking for Zip news, I'd reach for the Beacon rather than the PD...of course, I don't know if you live in the Akrong area to pick one up...I do wish YSU would go Div. I though. I wouldn't mind putting them on the sked either...but I hesitate to put a I-AA on there. However, If we're going to play a IAA I'd rather see YSU than Howard or someone like that...even though the band was fantastic.

getting back to the topic of this YSU debate (again) ERRRRRRRRRRRRRRR pitt game possibility. I would have to say if we can get them for a home game early in the year we should so it. I would give them home-away-away for the opportunity to beat the big dog that we need to beat to get the big time kids in the western Pa area, this would be a big chance for us. if we lose, so what, we still can recruit the same kids. At least this way we get to play in front of the recruiting base and play a competitive game.

I couldn't agree more.Even though next year's schedule already has a few big boys, I say put Pitt on...

Interesting read on scheduling:http://www.momentummedia.com/articles/am/a.../rightmoves.htmOn Weeknite Games: "Mid-major conference teams have also enjoyed terrific success playing weekday games. A classic example is Louisville, whose 2002 Thursday night victory over Florida State propelled the team into the national limelight. The Mid-American Conference is the undisputed leader in games during the week, as its teams play one Monday, five Tuesdays, five Wednesdays, four Thursdays, and two Friday night games this season (as we go to press). Nine of those contests are already slated for national television coverage.""EVOLUTION OF THE MID-MAJORSIt used to be that a school within a major conference could schedule a single-guarantee home game with a mid-major opponent, and give its team an easy win for the week. However, a few notorious upsets here and there have proven that the likes of Northern Illinois, Marshall, and others can be very dangerous opponents for the home teams from the major conferences. Never was this more in evidence than in the 2003 season, when on the same day Marshall knocked off No. 6 Kansas State, Northern Illinois beat No. 21 Alabama, and Toledo stunned No. 9 Pittsburgh. In response, major-conference schools are rethinking how to schedule an easy win. Some are choosing to play a I-AA opponent (although Furman almost upset Pittsburgh and Maine nipped Mississippi State last year). Now that NCAA rules allow a win over a I-AA opponent to count toward bowl eligibility every year, the idea is even more enticing. The downside is that most fans and alumni are not attracted to games with lower-caliber opponents, causing ticket sales, as well as related gameday revenue, to dip. Playing in front of uninspired home fans, the head coach of the host school faces a difficult task in getting his team ready to play in an environment that’s ripe for the upset. "2 For 1 's: "NEW IDEASAll these changes add up to some new ideas in scheduling football games not seen a decade ago. One option gaining popularity is the two-for-one series, in which a major conference school gets two home games and the mid-major school gets one home game over the course of three years. The mid-major gets the guaranteed paychecks for the road games to help their athletic budget, and the major conference school reduces its travel. The arrangement works especially well if the mid-major school has something to offer the major school’s fans. "

  • 2 weeks later...

we have an open date on the schedule. we do not need a game with pitt. we already have a decent oc schedule with army, indiana, and osu.it would be a big plus if we had a home game before osu. even if it's a 1-aa,sun belt ect team at home we need a win to start the season. the same people who want to play pitt will be the same one complaning if we startt off 0-3.no way do i want to open the season with a new qb,and ol at the shoe.
