ZippyAlum
OSU is probably gonna be ready to take out their frustration of losing soooo badly on the next team they play. As of now--that's us.
zen
OSU sux! :lol:Seriously though, Florida had them on their toes with a conventional defense, and if our game vs Penn State was any indication, Big Ten teams might not know how to attack our D
SouthernZip
Honestly, I've been more worried than excited about this game since after the Central Michigan game this year. We pretty much laid an egg of a season after the NC State win.I'm afraid we are going to get obliterated. But maybe JD can glean a few ideas from Urban Myers' play calling? Is there any chance of us keeping OSU's defense off balace like Florida did? Also, having a mobile QB (be it either CJ or Hakes) is going to be a big asset as oppossed to the less-than-swift-of-foot Luke Getsy. sgm405
I'd feel a lot better about the game if Carlton Jackson had a bit more experience...Ohio stadium isn't the best place to get your feet wet.

skip-zip
You guys are going to love this....I was watching the news this evening, and they were talking about how 40,000 Buckeye "fans" attended a send-off rally last week as the team was leaving for Arizona.Today, when the busses pulled into the athletic center in Columbus, there were 2 fans waiting to welcome them home. That's right....TWO. Not two thousand, or two hundred. TWO !!!!Like I always say, actions speak for themselves. There are sooooooooo many people in this state that "become" Buckeye fans when they appear to be challenging for a title.I'm still laughing histerically Go Zips !! TXZipFan
Maybe after they roll YSU they will sleep on the Zips, cause we're definitely going to give them a better game then the Peguins will.

I sure as hell didn't see any. Does that mean all Zips fans were frontrunners last year? Of course not, and it doesn't mean that for OSU fans either. Nice try though lol. People have work, students have classes...I'm surprised two showed up to be honest.

I sure as hell hope not LOL.. My only hope is they are losing so much they will be that bad in the first game that it will be close.YSU did shut down Penn State for most of the First half this past year at least.YSU will get killed---but most teams will anyways.. they are that good.A couple years ago I went to OSU-Akron and I was cheering for you guys. Not sure how many fans you will bring down there, I'm expecting 4-5,000 from YSU, considering they've actually been selling tix for the past 4 months for it. zipboy
Best thing for us is that they lost their invincibility yesterday. If they are a legitimate top 15-20 team next year, we should make a game of it. If they are a top 5 team, we won't fair well. I hope the fellas take the game as importantly as many of us do. For Akron to truly knock away at the osu legion of fans in NE Ohio, they only way to do that is to win. People lover winners not losers. I know it is far fetched but if we pulled a Boise State for a few years and osu had a few 7-5 seasons (not that I expect that to happen), the dynamics of the state would change. They have to do more than beat OSU. People will just think they got lucky or caught OSU on a bad day. To ever try to swing Ohio, they not only have to beat OSU, they have to beat other major programs, win consistently within the conference, get ranked, win bowl games...and hope somehow that OSU stops being an annual power in college football. TXZipFan
Picking up all these OL and DL recruits this year is gonna be huge come this next year (especially the JUCO recruits). I really hope JD spreads the offense out like Florida does and uses our mobile QB's to cut this defense up. We've got the talent at reciever to run an Offense with more recievers on the field too. But the line recruits are gonna be real key (another reason I wish Nate Robinson was staying).
ZippyAlum
Thanks Zip_ME87! I feel much better now knowing that OSU plays YSU first. I wish our schedule were in place. When will it be??
Balki Bartokomous
WIth Akron's luck, YSU would wind up winning one of the worst games ever, leading to the inevitable "YSU is better than AKron. Why won't you play us???" chatter. Which would lead me to hanging myself.
SouthernZip
We've also gotta schedule a 1-AA team to come into the RubberBowl the week prior to the OSU game! All the NFL teams have a handful of scrimmages before the start of the regular season. OSU is getting YSU. We can't go into Cowlumbus next season with the Suckeyes, having had played a scrimmage game already, as our first opponent! The analysts claim that a team improves most in a season from the first game to the second. If that's true, then it's just plainly unfair to take this unexperienced team into Cowlumbus for our first game. Many D-1 schools consistently play 1-AA's as their first game, don't they? I'm thinking that Kansas State used to always beat up on a 1-AA first game of the year? It would give us a win, and get our new players some game experience before sending them into the lion's den that is OSU's stadium.
TXZipFan
Seeing how Florida and CMU used it and did so well, is there any chance that JD might try a twin-QB system?I sure hope not, cause for as many Florida and CMU's there are, there are way more cases of it being unsucessful i.e. Troy Smith and Justin Zwick, Drew Weatherford and Xavier Lee, etc. They need to play the guy who gives them the best chance to win and stick with him. My only hope is that the guy who steps up and takes over can be a leader, I think the offense really lacked that last year.

Kansas State struggled big time this past year vs. a team YSU beat twice: Illinois State. They won 24-23, only after ILSU went for it for 2 and came up short.I-AA is a way to get some butts in the stands and get some support behind your team. YSU does it every year with a Division II Team.-----------------------------------------------I think a team that would definitely travel to the Rubber Bowl would be Appalachian St. who won the title for the 2nd straight year just a few weeks back. NC-State backed out of their deal I believe and are looking for a I-A in week 1. They could just hit a flight into CAK.. .They bring a lotta fans as well. Valpo Zip
Ted Ginn and Pittman are entering the draft. Tressel will be using fresh QB, RB and WR... i thought that this might make things a tad easier for us.

It only makes an upset that much more realistic. GO ZIPS!!!

zipsbandman
Thank goodness we will see an OSU team without Smith, Ginn, Gonzalez, and Pittman. They'll still beat us but maybe we can hold our own? I'm wondering how we are going to score on their defense. JD's offense has been lackluster at best, and make no mistake, that OSU defense will still be good. We'll be breaking in a new QB too and an O-line. If we had a ton of veterans going up against OSU underclassmen, then that is when an upset is possible. If we ever were to make a run at a BCS bowl no win would catapult us into contention more than this opportunity.
RACER
i think our defense will be fine especially ;since alott of there guys on offense are leaving early. i have no idea how our offense is going to score points breaking in a new qb,and o-line though.plus we need to find a kicker. ZachTheZip
We will have to depend on our special teams to give us good field position. David Harvey absolutely MUST get at least 2 returns past the 50 yd. line. Unless we have found a miracle replacement kicker, I don't see us being able to win this one. The two most important aspects of football are the special teams and the lines. Without them working well, it is impossible to win.
ZippyAlum
This (by Jason Lloyd) was in our local newspaper. I thought our Penguin fans might enjoy it---or maybe not. "Poor Youngstown State. As if they weren't already Penguins being led to slaughter, now they're the first piece of fresh meat an angry, tormented and humiliated group of Buckeyes will see since the defamation in the desert. They'll be plucked apart from belly to beak."
