timmyboy
they should start some type of a program for not only the people who go to the university, but also the kids from the comunity. i know that my brother has been to every football game and has been to 7 basketball games ( both guys an girls) and at each of the games, it is the same people cheering for the team, u dont ever seen new people unless it is at one of the "big" games. i know he would ( along with alot of his friends) love to sit with the ak rowdies and cheer. have they talked about it or would they be appose to having younger people ( 16) sit an cheer with them? I know at a few of the games he was standing up and cheering and the people around him asked him if he could sit down. this is somthing they should think about doing. ( branching out to the people of the community an not just the university students)
Valpo Zip
That has nothing to do with the rowdies, you have to see what the AD has to say about that. The rowdies are all students who get free admission with their zip card. I am assuming that your brother is buying tickets... so it is not about being 16, it is about having a zip card. RowdyZip
At this point the AK-Rowdies (and/or the athletics department) oppose the participation of:1) Any student that now wants to join the group2) Any one not having the correct T-shirtnot sure the status on non-students, but considering the above...things don't look good.Oh...and from someone that has sat in the seats with the rowdies for every game this season, i'd LOVE to see some loud fans (especially some kids/future students) join us. Thought about joining the AK-Rowdies staff earlier this season but thought work and class & those responsibilities would've been too much. Maybe my little "liberal" voice would've helped out...or maybe not. Things'll get better....GO ZIPS!!!
sgm405
I like the idea of it - as long as students get first dibs. I love kids, but you have to give first dibs to the students paying tuition dollars. But for the games where crowds are smaller, sure.As RowdyZip said though, we've got to figure out the problems with out own students not being able to sit down low before we let the kids there. FearTheRoo
All kinds of problems here. The AD is ultimate responsible for the conduct of the student club. That's why you have to sign a code of conduct. If you break the rules, then there can be repercussions. Think of the mess it would create for an overworked AD to now allow "outsiders" in especially under age ones. Great idea, but we have to resort to letting non-students participate at college that enrolls 25,000 students, we have bigger issues! timmyboy
i see what your saying now, never really thought bout it like that. here is a possible solution. have the head of the rowdies send out a letter to local schools (elementary, middle, high schools) and see who would be interested in starting a group made of people from the community, and if they get enough reply's to the letter they could charge 10$ for them to join an have shirts made that say future rowdies or baby rowdies, and they could have all the younger rowdies sit in a certain section upstairs or even have one section behind the basket reserved for them and the one on the other end for the college students. this is just a suggestion because i personally know alot of the younger kids ( i coach youth football in the akron area) who would love to join a group such as the rowdies. FearTheRoo
Well, there is always this.Plus, much of what you described would be the job of the Athletic Department's PR director. However, I am not sure that that particular office is filled at the moment.
