sgm405
Random Thoughts...- Holy Cedrick Middleton...25 points, six three pointers...what a game! I'm starting to wonder if he should be starting and Dials should be the "spark plug" off the bench. - Dru Joyce was - again - the heart of the Zips basketball team. 18 points, 10 of them by getting to the line. Man are we going to miss him next year. - Romeo's injury seemed to wake him up. A bad start, great finish - 16 points, 8 boards- Where was Quade? 2 points, 4 rebounds...not what I expected, which was a breakout game. - Couldn't Nick Goddard have busted up that zone a little?- Weird game...I thought the refs were making horrible calls in favor of Can't, yet we shot wayyy more free throws. Strange. - Linhart was great defensively and grabbed some key boards, but he certainly had his struggles offensively and took some very poor shots. I firmly stand by my earlier opinion of him. - Oh my God...was the the alumni...STANDING? At a time that wasn't the tipoff? Seriously though, I hope you guys see what you could do when you make noise...the JAR was rockin'. - Great job by the Rowdies as usual...still need to work on being in sync with each other, but then again, when was the last time we had both sections? It'll come. - Special thanks to the girl standing directly over the Rowdies wearing the jean skirt...according to a female friend of mine, you had some new Victoria Secret underwear on. - My only beef for the night...AK-Rowdies...for the love of God, when we win a game like that, with TV crews in the building...STORM THE COURT! I know...they announced to everyone to not step onto the court...they have to do that. What, is the ONE security guard going to stop and arrest everyone? In the future...big games = storm the court!Great win, Can't sucks...see you all Sunday!
ZachTheZip
Totally agree with all.We will have to storm the court on Sunday if/when we win. No exceptions. We only need two more 5,000+ crowds at the JAR this season. I see those games being Ohio and the Bracketbuster.Does anyone know if the Rowdies resume sign-ups before or after the game Sunday? I really really really really really want to join now. Pretty please?
The Hip Zip
Ced and Dru were fantastic tonight. Correct me if I am wrong but Dru went to the hole more times tonight than I've ever seen him in the past. We shot way more free throws because we took it to the hole. That young ref ( the short guy, I don't know his name but he's new to the conference this year) is incredibly bad. I've seen him work 3 times this year and he seems to get worse with each outing. The other two whistles were very Zip friendly tonight.

ziptrumpet87
I thought it was good to see Dials step under the defender to take the two and hit it. He seems to be covered most of the time when he's behind the 3 line so it's good to see him get something else.Ced is amazing... career highs while fighting a cough/cold! He's still seemed to be the quickest guy out there tonight. All the bad/missed calls, yet we still shot more FT's... and MADE them!Liked Romeo having the patience to wait and find the open guy when they double down on him.Linhart and Wood seemed a bit off, but still played OK. Q missed a few dunks and never really got going on the O-boards.But most important.... Make way for the new !

They were bad tonight ... MAC officials are getting worse each season.Great game by Ced. He should never leave the floor!
gozips19
didn't get a chance to see the game but i certainly looked like akron was more agressive and had more depth both leading to Can't State to become more tired as the game went on. great game and glad to hear that it was the 10th largest crowd ever at the jar! w00t
I don't often post in observation threads, but here goes...* Ced of course was amazing tonight... when he had the ball just outside the arc and his defender went past him, he sort of looked both ways, and all but shrugged his shoulders before burying what I believe was the fifth of his six threes of the night.* I thought the refs were doing Can't favors at every turn, most obviously when Ced was violated on a fast break, no call was made, and then Travis got called for going over the back on the rebound. We took more foul shots, but we were called most often for away from the ball and offensive fouls while Can't was getting whistled for fouls on the shot. Can't missed the front end of two key one-and-ones as well. * If Quade could have capitalized on that alley-oop pass or finished the jam when he got fouled taking it up, all would have been forgotten about what was a pretty quiet performance from him. He's worth having in the game just for the chance that he'll grab a key offensive board or a throw down a momentum-swinging dunk. * Dru quietly amassed 18 points, mostly at the line. Having him on the bench to sub in and take the foul shots when Travis left the game was key. Didn't have the three going on, so he attacked the hoop more often than usual. * Aside of The Rowdies, there were about 5,500 anemic fans in the arena at several points tonight. Thank God for that run at the end of the game or it would have been a waste of what turned out to be an electric crowd. I hope we pack 'em in like sardines at the JAR a few more times this year (especially when Walther & Co. come to town).* We beat Can't by a wider margin than Duke did.* The Can't State Sucks chant was not used often enough or long enough.* If we're ever in a situation where we need to miss a foul shot and get the rebound at the end of a game, let's hope Wood is at the line. Perfect line drive that bounces back to him every time. * Undoubtedly one of the best experiences I have ever had at the JAR, see everyone on Sunday!!! zipsbandman
Just everything about this game should make all zip fans proud. First of all, our pregame routine literally rocks!!!! The pyrotechnics were brilliant and the music really pumps up the crowd and I'm sure the team. It appears to me that the zips are a second half team. In the first half, we seem to "feel" out opponents and then we make great adjustments at the half. It's just a reflection of a well coached team. The rowdies...omg....were fantastic. Man I wish we had that turnout every game. The rowdies stayed in the game when we were down unlike the OU crew. How about the interaction with the band? I'm starting to think that the band on the floor is not such a bad idea. The director has been adding great ideas and the drumline was a nice addition. Everytime the little Can't contingent tried to start their little screw the roo or whatever we quickly shut them up. No Can't fans were heard in our house. skip-zip
I kept telling my friends that Can't appeared to get slower as the game progressed. We need to keep this in mind for the next meeting. We have much more depth, and we'll wear a team like Can't down over 40 minutes. Let's use it to our advantage again. We had so many more foul shots because we were getting fouled in the act of shooting. Most of those awful calls that were going Can't's way were early in both halfs (before we were in the bonus) and were not shooting fouls. AK-Rowdies....THANK YOU!! Your best moment was the "Can't State Sucks" chant in the 2nd half, which I could clearly hear all the way up in the top of upper-reserved.I haven't seen this kind of environment in the JAR since I was a student back in the 80's. Let's keep in going, and we'll be

Valpo Zip
The refs were horrible... and we were the victims. If the refs called the game right, 3-4 flushes should have fouled out by the end of the game. Both Linhart and Rome were knocked down hard on the floor by some unnecessary roughness from the flushes. About us:1 - Where is J-wood ? and who is that new guy wearing 21 ? seriously !2 - Very bad shots by Linhart, but the only zip who goes after the offensive rebounds, and he actually gets a whole lot of them. (Romeo and J-wood don't seem to even try.3 - Quade had a night off.4 - Dials is not on his best days but can always contribute few points and assists.5 - Cedrick, WoW !!! 6 - Dru was hungry for that "W". He wanted it so bad, he knows that this was his last home game against the flushes and he wants to leave his footprint. He was ready to do whatever it takes to win that game. We definitely are going to miss him next year... especially that no prospect PG is in the horizon.About the AD:Why did they roll the sign that says Can't Statecks ? elementary school student say Sucks. I saw PG-13 tv shows were people say sucks... And when you ask us to make signs, do you expect us to write "I love my mickey mouse" on them ? FearTheRoo
Great game tonight. Zips made me nervous because I never felt they got in sync the entire night. But they played tough and made things happen down the stretch. Many of you may know that I tend to be the voice of reason when folks start to spout off about the refereeing. And before I make my next comment, even I can have a difficult time being objective at a Zips game. That being said, I have to make the following comment: overall, the officiating was good, but I had many problems with the calls made by the shorter ref of the three. I have seen him work a few games before and have had some problems with his calls before. I wasn't too excited when I saw him arrive on the court during pregame. I had a great seat tonight (2nd row behind Dambrot's chair), but the ref will usually have the best angle on a play. Still I was not overly thrilled with 1/3 of this crew tonight. RowdyZip
Still I was not overly thrilled with 1/3 of this crew tonight. Was it the guy with the bad hair plugs? Cuz i hate that guy, he's miserable.

RowdyZip
Where's all the K-e-n-t flamers? I already can't wait for March. Check out MACBBS, a lot of whiners about refs giving "home cookin" to the zips...then two of their own saying that the game was called very fairly with ticky tack fouls on both sides. nothin like two of your own tellin you like it is. oh, and if a Can't fan says the game was called fairly, it probably means we got hosed. I hope we dont get that hair-plug ref any more. leave that crew to the Mac center. and the bald guy too. oh...they all suck, just like

Redick when Duke comes to town. Crossing the line is the "#%&$ West Virginia" sweatshirt that got onto national TV during the Rutgers/WVU football game. Crossing the line is throwing stuff on the court. A "Can't Statecks" banner doesn't cross the line.
Bleacher Bum
I just want to clarify a few things. In response to not enough "Can't State Sucks" chants, I almost forgot it was a game against Can't! Obviously, I really didn't, but their fans were so quiet, there was no need to shut them up or rub it in their faces. Also, I've noticed a few posts regarding the sign that we had to roll back up. It keeps appearing on here as "Can't Statecks," but if you weren't there, it was about half the length of an AK-Rowdy section and read "K-S-U-c-ks" I just wanted to make sure everyone dug it. ZachTheZip
I love that sign. It it always appropriate, and always truthful. Someone should bring it to the game at Can't State, even if we have to put it away. The more signs, the better. They get us on the TV, and if done right they can mess with the other teams' heads. FearTheRoo
RowdyZip: Yes, it was HairPlug Mansgm: I had a problem with the chant too. Look, I'm not saying it was terrible and the Rowdies should be disbanded, I just thought there were plenty of other things that could be chanted with the same affect without pulling that card. Just my opinion!
