New AP poll

Just did a little number crunching of the teams in the AP poll immediately above the Zips. The new poll will be out tomorrow afternoon, but here is the interesting part: Keep in mind, the zips destroyed a decent WMU team on national television, holding them to just 36 total points and no players in double digits. The teams above the Zips in last weeks polls had records over the last week as follows (teams ranked 19 thru 45):7 teams were 0-21 team was 0-111 teams were 1-11 team was 1-011 teams (including the zips) were 2-0My prediction is at least 10-20 votes, and inside the top 35 for the first time since I can remember. Another 2-0 week next week (apparently emu is not a gimme with the way they dimantled the bulls tonight) and ditto to ball state who destroyed the f.lashes and the zips will crack the top 30. :screwks:

Wow Rowdy. That's bold. But I hope you are right.Remember folks, these are sportswriters....many of which do not pay much attention to what is going on in the MAC. For a siginificantly larger number of them to jump on our bandwagon in a one-week period is pretty wishful thinking.But...I do think it can happen if we keep winning.

Nevermind. The AP poll is already out. It's right here.We still have an entire two votes. Right now, I don't think we have earned anything more than that either. Our only good win is over an average Oral Roberts team. They are the only team we have beaten with an RPI under 100.We have no respect right now and have no way of earning any, just yet. That won't change unless we go build up a huge winning streak going into the MAC tourney. Beating Toledo is the key to winning out in the MAC. If we can get past them, combined with the way we are playing right now, we should cruise to the championship game in Cleveland. We will never get respect unless we can make it to the "Big Dance" and win a few games there, for multiple years on a row.

I wonder if the national audience may have actually hurt us. If I didn't have Akron ties, would I have kept the game on beyond the first 10 minutes? Akron dismantled WMU, but they didn't start looking good until the second half.By the way, how about Jeremiah Wood! He played tough (except that he couldn't get a lay-up to drop).

That is still last week's poll. Notice that UCLA hasn't dropped from #3 on the poll you linked, which they certainly will do.

Hmm. They updated the teams' records, so I thought it was the new poll.

Just be patient guys...as I said in an earlier post on this thread. The sportswriters won't jump on a MAC team until they see fellow colleagues moving in that direction. We were not going to jump significantly in just one week. It's going to take a few more weeks, and more wins to get near that #25 mark.

Elton Alexander finally showed us some love and ranked us 25.
You apparently found what I did. THIS is VERY interesting. Might wanna bookmark this page...Elton Alexander from the Plain Dealer had us at 25, and apparently we have fans in Idaho, because "Idaho Statesman" writer Nick Jezierny has the Zips at 23. Also...Mike Jensen from the Philadelphia Enquirer has the Zips at 25. I'm guessing the 23rd gave us the extra 3 points in the poll if Alexander had us 25 last week as well as Jensen...25th=1pt24th=2pts23rd=3ptsThis being the case, the Zips have a LOT of eyes to open to get up higher. Having a writer from the Philly Enquirer and the "hometown-north" writer on our side isnt a bad place to start. GO ZIPS!

Would you believe...Nick Jezierny, (Boise) Idaho Statesman sportswriter is an OU grad? Yep -- and he says he likes to vote for a MAC team once-a-year. In other words, don't expect this (3 points from him) to continue past this week. Well, we can hope. Thanks Nick. Go MAC!

Elton Alexander is doing his job. I think the contributor from the Plain Dealer should show Akron some love in the poll, because, for the most part, no one else would. If it was Can't, or CSU that had our record, I would like to think he would do it for them as well (specially if it was CSU, you know it would happen).I dunno what's up with Nick Jezierny (Boise), but is it possible that the writter from Philly took notice of the zips last year when we beat Temple in the NIT?
