Time to face reality

After spending the night pretty pissed, I have decided it is time to face the reality of the situation. This may or may not be our MAC championship team. We are not heads above everyone else. I think there is pretty good balance between the top 4-5 teams. It all boils down to two things: 1. Beating BG and Buffalo for sure. 2. Playing well in the tourney and getting a few breaks there.

It always comes down to playing well in the tourny. After we were getting votes in the AP and Coach's polls, it looked like an at-large may have been possible. I think that's pretty much out of the question now. Hopefully we can finish the season 4-0 and get our momentum back. Plus, if we go 4-0, that mean's Can't loses their final game of the season.

:D unfortunately reality looks like this coach/team could slide to the 4 seed or lower...unfortunately reality is KD did not have them ready to play the first half against miami...unfortunately reality may be that this coach has taken this program as far as he is going to given his style of play and recruiting...and most unfortunately....reality is that the ZIPS are not going to do what Can't did over the last 10 years...sucks doesn't it?

it's amazing how we lose one game and everyone is negative. the sky is falling, and we are going to win 20+ games again this year. i think all the mac teams would right now would trade places with akron. we are lucky to get a guy like him who actually wants to here.

:nono: with all due respect to the fan RACER...we all want to see the ZIPS win this...but,with roadies at Buffalowhere the Zips have problems AND Can't,this team would have to change character rather quickly to avoid 2 more in the MAC lost column...you also mentioned 20 wins...check some of the 'loose change' that makes up those 20 wins...Tiffin,Niagara,was it Stony Brook?....anyway 20 wins are meaningless against some of the out of conference teams they played...and 20 wins are meaningless unless they win the MAC...Can't and miami don't have 20 but they are playing well at the right time...here's hoping we are not watching an NIT game in March...

I've posted it before and I'll post it again -- if the MAC is going to continually be a conference that only gets one berth in the tournament, I don't understand the scheduling. Why wouldn't you want your team battle tested with real games that might be losses versus the cupcakes on our schedule. If you could get a list of teams perhaps, CSU, Wright State, Detroit, Duquesne, YSU and other local, but non-conference schools (Div. 1) with home and homes (flip them annually) you can then sprinkle in the Duke, UNC, OSU etc. for real tough competition. Worst comes to worse you go o-fer in your non-conference and win the MAC -- you still get to go dancing. I would love to see us get a much better schedule next year and beyond. By scheduling the big boys you could entice players who want to play against them, but didn't get the offers. Now your enticing them with Tiffin? WTF

wow.we lose a game to miami.ok we had a bad game. everybody has bad games. Can't loses to western michigan, they had a bad game. but just because we had a couple bad games here and there doesn't mean our program isn't going to grow over the next years. WE ARE JUST GETTING STARTED! we aren't going to become a consistently great team overnight. give it some time, support your team, and stop being so negative.GO ZIPS!

Just so everyone here knows.....if we're supposed to give it some time -- when has enough time passed to expect a team picked to win the conference to actually win a game of consequence on the road? Can we complain in five years? How long do we have to wait before we've waited enough? Just a thought, but maybe your four posts also indicate the length of time you've waited. The rest of us - we are little sick of waiting. Why shouldn't we expect more fromr our University or alma mater? But then again you must be new because we've gone over that question 1,000 times here.

:mad_flame: Big Zip...thanks for that comment...KD knows this is HIS best shot for a while...the ZIPS have to count on too many breaks going their way...that tells us that the coaching talent and the skill level of the players isn't there to allow them to win the important games...whether or not KD is the guy to get them to that 'next level'///...he was a high school coach a few years ago who rode LJ's back...unfortunately LJ is with the CAVS...not the ZIPS...

big zip i know what you are saying about schedules, but i disagree in this repect. no one will play us home, and home. pitt backed out at the last second.you play teams like duke ect on the road for automatic losses. why should mac schools help the bigger schools out.if they won't return a game then don't schedule them. i do blame the mac as a confernece for never being able to get more than one team in the tourney. it starts at with the mac commish.

heres a little tid bit of information for ya...anybody recall the 1986 NCAA tournament???...beuler?...beuler???...anyone?...anyone???...didnt think so!!!!!...lemme help ya out...1985-86 season the Cleveland State Vikings, yes CSU, were selected as the number 14 seed in the NCAA tournament...first round they were paired against Bobby Knight's Hoosier's...the number 3 seed mind you...everyone doubted them, but themselves...those vikings knocked off the 3 seeded hoosier's: 83-79...ok so they got lucky...now to the round of 32, the 14 seeded vikings now faced st joes...ehh nothin to it, 75-69 win , and on to the round of 16...the 14 seeded vkings were one 16 teams left...they faced Navy, led by center david robinson, who went to play for the san antonio spurs...the vikings unfortunately fell to navy, 71-70...but what a season...now ya see...a horizon league team...horizon league...the vikings made it to the sweet 16 of the ncaa tournie...if they can do it, why not us...if ya dont believe, it wont happen...the zips find ways to win...now foul shooting is a problem im not gonna say its not...but despite our free throw troubles we found a way to win on saturday...and as the game progressed the foul shooting got somewhat better...is it where it needs to be, no...but a win is a win is a win...ill take them any way we get them...but ya gotta believe somewhat, that were gonna pull it off...if we get some momentum goin with us to the Q, we at leats give ourselves a shot...i have no doubt in my head what will take place at the Q...i wont write it out cause i dont wanna jinx it...but for christs sake believe or dont show upwe dont want ya if ya dont have faith

I disagree with the point that this is Akron's best chance to win a title for years to come. The future is too hard to predict. Everyone thought the Colts lost their best chance to win in 2005 season when they lost to the Steelers in the playoffs and James went to the Cardinals. They came back and won this year. The same can be said for the Steelers losing to New England in the AFC Championship in the 2004 season and they won Super Bowl XL the next year. Look at our own history...nobody thought the Zips could win the football championship the year after Blackburn and Frye graduated, but thanks to Biggs they did. Maybe football analogies are not the best, but the NFL runs a tournament playoff system the same as the MAC and NCAA. One game winner take all is hard to predict.

I remember that very well.Wasn't CSU in the AMCU8 at the time? That conference had a lot less cred than the Horizon League, which made the accomplishment all that more impressive."Run and Stun," coach Mackey
