ZachTheZip Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 I'm posting this during halftime at the Womens game. They are down double digits, and the crown support is disapointing at best. These girls deserve better. There have been more travelling calls in this first half than I have seen in a game all season. It's a shame. I really hoped that more people would show up, especially the AK-Rowdies. There are less than ten of them. On the bright side, some of the Men's team players are there to support the team. I really don't know what the point of me posting this is, but why not. If you can still make it to the game, try to get here. If you miss it, you can always go the Track championship instead. It is a big weekend in Zips sports. Come on and show some support for your teams! (not really, but still) Quote
skip-zip Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 uakronkid. I'm sure they appreciate your support. They've just been down for so long. Those meager crowds...it's been like that for many, many years. It's going to take time...alot of time. Quote
sgm405 Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 The Men's team - an exciting, top-notch team - struggles to draw big crowds at times. It's not surprising to me at all that not many have showed for the women's game. Quote
timmyboy Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 uakronkid. i was there cheering. and i agree with you bout them needing more people to get their asses in the seast an support them. the more fans that they can get... the more they feel like they have to bust butt to win. I was very sad at the turnout for the rowdies also uakronkid. the most that there were today was 9, but lets see how many show up for the mens game tonight... its a pitty that they call themselves a student organization.... but dont show up to support all the teams. Balki Bartokomous Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 A lot of people don't have all freaking day to dedicate to sitting in the JAR and watching basketball. When it comes down to it, most people probably do what they have to early in the day so they can go to the men's game. Hmm ... go to Romeo and Dru's last home game ... or sit through another god awful women's game. Choice is simple. Quote
timmyboy Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 balki,we are talking bout them "rowdies" who have only been to 2 of the womens game and all of the mens game...is that you? how do you expect the team to care when their own student cheering section doesnt even care enough to show up to the games and support them! sgm405 Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 I'll say this...and I know I'm going to get ripped, but I'm going to be honest. Women's basketball is a boring product to me, especially in the MAC. When you tack on the fact that they're a losing team, I think you have your simple reasons why nobody goes. I wish them the best...I hope they do well...I'm glad to see they're doing better this year...But...I can think of about 732583754 things I'd rather do than watch women's basketball live. Just my opinion. Quote
timmyboy Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 an thats the reason that the womens team only averages 500 people a game. we need to start supporting the womens team because what do you think recruits think when they come to a game (such as tonights game, 4 recruits there) why come to akron over the other schools when they cant even get their own fans into the seats? we need to show the recruits that we do care bout our womens teams as well as all of our teams. RowdyZip Posted February 25, 2007 Report Posted February 25, 2007 I'll say this...and I know I'm going to get ripped, but I'm going to be honest. Just my opinion. What he said. Bottom line: I'll start complaining about attendence at the womens games whenA) They have a winning seasonB) They beat Can't StateC) The mens team begins to sell out every gameD) Pigs fly.I'll need all of those to happen. The numbers are proprotionate. Look at BG, a top 25 team, in complete domination of the MAC and they average about 1,300. Good luck to the girls, I wish them well, and I do CARE if they win/lose, but when I have a busy day and there's a ladies game at 2 and a mens game at 7, which one am I going to go to? Quote
ZachTheZip Posted February 25, 2007 Author Report Posted February 25, 2007 I guess my post was directed more toward the AK-Rowdies than anyone. Having only 9 there including me is pathetic, especially for senior night. I know a lot of people are busy and I can't blame them if they can't come. I've had to miss games because of work, so I'm guilty of that too. It's the students that should be there. The AK-Rowdies were out-numbered by Buffalo fans. You know you have a problem when there are more opposing fans than students at a college game. I have seen the effect that a large student group can have on the women's team. It makes them play harder, and better. I know they would have won more games than they did at the JAR if there were even thirty students there instead of the usual five or six. This team has so much potential and youth, just wait a few years and we might have a winning team on our hands for the first time in a long while. Quote
timmyboy Posted February 25, 2007 Report Posted February 25, 2007 thank you uakron... someone finally gets what im saying bout the "student group" AK Rowdies. The same 6-9 people were at nearly every home game. people say they will start coming when they start winning, but that works both ways...im sure they would start winning more if more fans were there showing that they gave a damn! zippyrifle32 Posted February 25, 2007 Report Posted February 25, 2007 all i see here is blah blah blah... fuck the women. they suck.well i went to the women's game, and it wasn't that bad. they were down by double digits and pulled within three coming down the stretch. it was a bad day for shooting, but heck they went 100% from the free throw line with 16 or 17 attempts. i'd like to see the men do that. i was also disappointed with the rowdies showing. there was no swipe thingy, and the rowdies were over shadowed in their cheering by the band. crap, the mothers i sat around were the loudest people in that building besides kest. many people complain that women's games are boring or whatever, but every team should get support even if it's only because they zips too. Quote
zipseuph Posted February 25, 2007 Report Posted February 25, 2007 actually I've seen more exciting games this year out of the women then I have the men. If you wanna get more people to the sporting events you need to go outside of the nation. everyone here is a fan already and if they post and read this site on a rgular basis then they also probably show up to games on that same basis.
