Dr Z Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 What an easy job 'The Sales Factory' has. Should be easy to go from nothing to something.I wish I knew they were looking, I would have applied. The hardest part will be signing the check to the local paper to get more coverage.I'm not sure I could do that. Dr.....I think the Beacon does OK in covering the Zips.they run features...game previews...game stories...an occasional column from Pluto.Coverage on the road may be a question at times when they just run a small wire story or one from a freelancer. All and all, I'd give them a B-.Remember, we're fans, so we are always going to want more. They are a newspaper that must judge the interests of ALL their readers. ZachTheZip Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 They are a newspaper that must judge the interests of ALL their readers. That concept if self fulfilling, though. This isn't knock on the Beacon, but an observation on the Media in general. If they only report Ohio State stories, or only Can't State stories, then that is all the public wil be interested in because it is the only thing they know they should be interested in. Then the media will point to the publics interest (that the media created) and say that is what the people want to hear, so they report it even more. The Beacon does a pretty good job of covering Zips basketball. I have more of a problem with the TV news stations. I wonder if we will get anything more than a passing comment on Sunday night after the game. If we do get a mention, it usually comes off as an "Aww... isn't that cute, they think they're big-time" comment. We will probably get lumped in with the high school playoffs while OSU gets a bigger segment when they beat up on dissapointing Big Ten team #5 or something. Quote

Yeah, the media is always consciously or subconsciously aware of this. For proof, all you gotta do is look at social issues or political topics. It's scare when some media outlet or reporter isn't trying to cram issues down the public's throat that THEY think the people should know about and/or take a more activist position on. Yet somehow, when it comes to sports, they fain "oh, the public aren't interested, why should we force it on them?" Well, I call Bull! You know damned well that you generate the interest. It is YOU (the paper) who doesn't have the interest.Like it was alluded to earlier in this thread. They were probably holding out for a grease job... either something on the down-low, or atleast the purchase of some ad space. Once that happens, oh, then the wheels of interest start turning. Unless of course, the public gets interested on it's own, then the paper begrudgingly has to put out. Quote
