IFlashedU
Akron teams always fail, get use to it! You will never win!Where have you been all season? The Zips beat Can't State TWICEand a 25-6 record is nothing to sneeze at 25-6. Too bad you lost to Arkansas-Littlerock and Illinois-Chicago! Oh yeah and had such huge OOC wins against Binghamton, Tiffin, Winston-Salem State, and St. Francis (Pa.) I mean seriously, talk about a record that was padded! You have no shot to dance with the big boys. Enjoy the NIT! You are out of the NCAA race after tonight!
Quickzips
Key's for tonights game:-Keep Can't off the offensive glass. Western Michigan did an absolutely horrid job of this last night and it cost them dearly. Romeo, Wood and Milum are gonna have to go in there and make sure they get those boards. Can't is too good of a team to be giving them second and third chances like Western was last night.-We need another big performance from Cedrick Middleton tonight. I know Dials is going to give it a go, but he might not be able to play at the same level for extended minutes. -Same thing goes for Conyers and Rybak. Those two did a very nice job last night in filing in for an injured Linhart. I'd expect to see more of the same. Conyers in praticular is looking a lot more comfortable with the extended minutes. Rybak still looks like a deer in the headlights sometimes, but he's getting better and if he plays smart he can be plenty effective.-Feed the ball inside. Can't is quick and has a lot of good perimeter shooters, but they lack the size inside to matchup with Wood and Romeo. Wood in praticular killed them last weekend. -Obviously we need to stay out of foul trouble. I don't want to have to finish another game against Can't with Dru on the bench and Dials, Middleton and Romeo in foul trouble. On the flip side if we can get a couple Can't players in foul trouble that would be really nice. Go strong to the hole. Especially with Wood. Can't really didn't have an answer for him Sunday.-No more Chokeron. JWood said it last week, this team doesn't care about what happened last year or the year before that. This is a new team with a new attitude. That said, we've got to stick with that mentality. If things get down at some point in time we can't just resort to firing up 3's early in the shot clock. Everyone has to keep their composure and play a full 40 minutes of basketball. -Leadership. We've heard all about how Romeo and Dru are the leaders of this team. The seniors. The face of Akron Basketball. If there's ever been a time when we need them to step up and show it tonight is the night.
blueandgold
The other key is to flat out be more physical than Can't. Wood is a true enforcer. Is it just me or have you noticed that he is starting to become the leader of this team? That's good news because Wood will be "the man" next year. sgm405
I'll be rocking the mic on 88.1 from 5-8 talking bout the game from time to time if anyone needs some pregame tunes!
Dr Z
Feed the ball inside. Can't is quick and has a lot of good perimeter shooters, but they lack the size inside to matchup with Wood and Romeo. Wood in paticular killed them last weekend.I think this is a big one. I don't think we went down low enough last Sunday. It seemed to be open all night long but the Zips did not seem to utilize this to the maximum.I hope KD noticed that in the tape. He seemed to have a very good game plan yesterday so I am optimistic that we will have another one today as well. The team seems to be playing at a high level at the right time. Hopefully the injuries will only motivate the rest of the team more.
ZachTheZip
To be honest, I wasn't that impressed with what I saw from Can't at last night's game. I left at halftime, but from what I saw they looked pretty tired and they just weren't playing well. The only reason they won is because Western Michigan was playing even worse than they were. I think that us blowing out CMU was huge. We kept our starters fresh, while Can't State was struggling to maintain a lead for most of tha game.Plus, Can't State went to sleep much later than the Zips (I would hope), given that their game ended near midnight, plus they had the press conference and all that before they could go back to the hotel and get some sleep.I'll see everyone at the game. skip-zip
Guys, there's no doubt about one thing...and I sure hope KD pounds this home to the boys during pregame....THE ONLY THING THAT KEPT Can't IN THE FIRST TWO GAMES WAS OFFENSIVE REBOUNDS.Without them, we would have blown them out BOTH times.BOX OUT......PLEASE !!!! blueandgold
...and please cut down on the turnovers. We have been sloppy lately.
GoZips88
Many of you have already said it ...Out-hustle Can't on the glass and keep pounding it inside, especially to Wood. I have no idea why Akron stopped doing that for a period of time last Sunday. Loading up and heading north in about a half hour. Looking forward to a big crowd and I hope it is pro-Akron! All six in our van are!
zip81
They did NOT open the curtains.
Zip Watcher
Uhhh .. yes they DID open the curtains on the side opposite the benches. The lower bowl only seats about 11k, and there were 2k+ upstairs.

The lower bowl only seats about 11k, and there were 2k+ upstairs. Well, that's about twice as many people than those who attended the regular season match-ups, so I can't really complain. And do you know what the best part is? at least 6,000 of them were Akron fans!
zip81
I heard they opened the curtains on the opposite side of the benches.I couldn't see that from where I was sitting.I guess the curtains were pulled on just three sides then...we are talking about the third tier...right? They only pulled back the curtains on the side opposite the team benches. They weren't very full up in the 3rd tier nosebleeds, but it was a record crowd for the semis.
