NCAA, NIT, or neither?

After last night, NCAA looks pretty unlikely.Toledo's already assured a NIT bid because they are regular-season champions. The NIT field is smaller this year than in past years. Do we get a NIT nod? Could a 26-win team who lost its NCAA bid on a fluke shot and officials' error be left out of the postseason entirely?The way things are going lately, anything seems possible.

I don't see how the Tournament Committee puts an Akron team in with loses to Miami (twice) and UALR and does not put a team like WVU in with a win against #2 UCLA.

Ya, I never thought about losing twice to Miami. But, that will hurt us too.I'm still sick to my stomach over the loss, and like most of you, could hardly sleep.I've already documented why we won't get into the NCAA. It's because of teams like WVU out there who have wins against ranked teams. But, I am praying for a miracle.Wow...wouldn't it be a crime if we get no postseason bid? Will the NIT say "well, we have one MAC team (Toledo), should we really have 2 MAC teams"? This is going to be an interesting day.

It would just be another typical NE Ohio ball buster if we do not even get an NIT bid.I can't see how that committee would pass over us, but strange occur all sorts of sports teams in our region.Two things.1. If we do get an NIT bid, do we get a first and/or second round home game? and2. If we do get that first round game, will play the game on Tuesday or Friday? The JAR is booked next Wed., Thur., and Sat. for the OHSAA D-1 regionals.

I cannot imagine a 26 win season not being enough to get Akron into the NCAA Tourney. No 26-win team has ever been left out. We'll see, but I expect to get an invitation.

I wouldn't plan a party around Akron getting into the turney.The other mid-major teams comparable to us are App State, and Air Force. We do not have anywhere near the resume of App State or Air Force. I don't see how they put a team in who cannot win the regular season or post season in the 15th rated conference by the RPI. Illinois, App State, Oklahoma State, Florida State and Arkansas are all on the bubble. Those schools have a lot better wins then we do, in a lot better conferences. The fact that a team like Illinois and Kansas State are on the bubble makes the discussion we are having now pointless.

When I posted this, I never thought that the third option, "neither", was that much of a possibility. I should have realized that a spineless conference administration and the new "ownership" of the NIT along with the decrease in the size of the field from 40 to 32 and the automatic bids for regular-season champions might make the unthinkable actually possible. God, I think I'm going to go watch some continuing coverage of Anna Nicole Smith or something now. The only thing I still know that I know:

If we declined this because of some damn OHSAA tournament games then some heads are going to roll in the comfy chairs up in the James A. Rhoades arena. Believe that. Like I said earlier, we could've played the damn thing in Memorial or sent the OHSAA over to Can't State.
