Zipsrifle
WOW. Initially, I thought all this discussion was over the fact we didn't get into the NCAA tourney. WTF happened to the NIT???This single act may ruin college sports for me entirely. Not that I doubted it before, but this is blatant, undeniable statement that NCAA Athletics are not about "Student Athletes", but rather, it is about making money. The few, token, small schools were the thin vail they hid behind to say it was about the kids. Obviously NOBODY, not our confrence, not even the people of NE Ohio which this University services is going to support us. They will all say "That's a shame" and watch the Suckeyes. What to do.....here are a couple of idea.1) Put the number #26 on every U of A jersey and piece of athletic apparel sold next season in protest. Everyone will wonder what it stands for. WTF are they gonna do? Not show us on TV? Not that we aren't pimped out, screwing over out of town fans like yours truely, with Tuesday and Thursday night fooball games for ESPN and the MAC office. This is the most tasteful one I have. 2) Refuse to put a MAC or NCAA logo on any U of A apparel, athletic field, court, etc. Probably some clause out there against this, but F'em! 3) Organize a protest outside of the MAC offices. The Cleveland media would eat this up!WARNING: THE NEXT STATEMENT IS COMPLETELY REDICULOUS, BUT, SO IS THIS ENTIRE SITUATION:4) Next BB game we have scheduled on National TV, we should take the court, let them throw up the tip-off, and walk off the court, forfeit. Does it matter? We were just screwed out of a national tourney, and nobody cares. F the national media and if we're lucky, it would be against a "Power Confrence" team. That would get some attention, say we aren't gonna be pushed around, and put a lot of egg on the face of some of those who are partially responsible for this, or simply turned the other way! That last one felt good! Dan Kadar
I was with Rasor tonight when he got the call about Akron not getting in. There was a lot of controlled anger in our room -- mostly because we were around non-sports fans. But the rage has just been swelling in my head about this. It's so unbelievably ridiculous. We've lived through The Drive, The Fumble and Michael Jordan killing the Cavaliers. This hurts the most.I'm not the sports editor of the Buchtelite anymore but someone from the paper is going to make sure we get a justified reason from either Mack Rhoades, the NIT selection committee or NCAA officials about this lunacy and make sure to either get it on Rasor's blog or here for you guys. The 26 thing is a great idea. I might wear it tomorrow on my basketball jersey. One correction though.....we aren't relegated to Tuesday and Thursday nights because of ESPN. It's because of ESPNU that no one gets.2. The MAC/NCAA logo thing is good too. I might wear my football jersey sometime and put a big red X through the MAC logo on it.3. I bet WEWS would cover such a protest considering they seemed to agree on the air that we were screwed.4. This one would be a huge attention getter, but you're right....it's ridiculous. It would sure show that we're sick and tired of being screwed around with though.
ziplock
I am so profoundly disappointed from the turn of events in the past 28 hours. And I, for one, cannot fathom how KD and the team deal internally with this devastation. I hope that they continue to be the "family" they have become and resolve that future tourney bids need to be fully in their control and not MAC officials and the "committees" that are engaged in good 'ol boy network policies. Like many of you, I ask where in the hell the MAC office was throughout the selection process? If they indeed had no role (or the clout) to support their member institutions than what is their purpose? For them to allow this egregious travesty was inexcusable.Go Zips!! ZipAlumn
I dont think any of us are thinking clearly tonight. This is truly remarkable.... the bottom line is that no one knows what happened. NO ONE! I'm not sure but since there are several teams in the NIT with a lower RPI and SOS than the Zips. And there are definitely a whole bunch of teams with worse records. I'm just wondering of all those teams that did not get in by winning their conference during the season, just how many had gyms SMALLER than the JAR? Could it be that Akron's Seating Capacity was not up to the committee's standards?

Could it be that Akron's Seating Capacity was not up to the committee's standards? I suspect the same. I don't think anyone had a worse SOS in the NIT field (not counting the Automatic Bids), But, that's the ONLY thing going against us, and these guys are supposed to be looking at myriad stuff.Actually, the NIT is selected by guys like Dean Smith, Gene Keady, and other coaching luminaries. You think they are swayed by any of the phone calls from everywhere? You think they are really doing much research and sizing these up the way they should rather then discussing their golf games and deciding who they would "fear most" to play?I don't. And that's why I don't blame Rhoades, Chryst, or any of those guys. The fault of this injustice lies squarely on the shoulders of the NIT selection committee and the NCAA for installing retired coaches rather than guys who actually have the inclination to get things right. Zipgrad1990
I am so mad I can't sleep. Maybe someone should make up shirts with #26, F the MAC, and F the NCAA on them. I'm sure everyone on Zipsnation would buy one!
urbanpreppie05
After last night's game, I just kept shaking my head at the win, and through most of today as well. I took my early evening nap with the assumption of waking up before work, checking the standings of NIT, and prepping for the game.I keep wondering if I'll wake up. Reiterating all the stuff that everyone has said, this is probably the darkest day of NEO sports, period. It proves that once again, when it comes to hard-working traditional universities, the big dogs don't give a flying fig about us. Period. (and that's not just athletics too). What kills me is the community reaction will probably be along the lines of either:"I knew they were going to lose" (I heard this last night, sadly)"Aww that's too bad. But that Ohio state-""Who cares?"

I'm sure everyone on Zipsnation would buy one! That's it.....I'm putting the number 26 on my jersey to wear to work (at UA) tomorrow. My game-worn Linhart #33 gold throwback won at the silent auction last season is going to say #26 for the forseeable future. I have 200 students in class who will be seeing the contact information for the MAC and the NIT on a transparency placed on the projector before class. I can't sleep or calm down myself either..... UAZips
I would personally put forth as much effort as possible to help get any and all items designed with the number 26 on them. Hats, shirts, whatever. I've been through a lot as a fan of all northeast Ohio sports. This hurts more than all of those put together. ziprowdy
the only thing im holding onto now, is that there will be an explanation within the next 2 days...ill give them 2 days...ideally we should expect something tomorrow, but ill give another day because im a nice guy...if we dont hear anything after two days or more...then obviously we know weve been snubbed, lied to, and snubbed again...i still cant believe that guy on espnu said we were in...and then we werent...how can he not know we werent...i still cant believe that went down this weekend...so much for taking clock malfunctions into consideration eh?? rowdy52
I've been reading these forums all season and have gone to just about every home game this season including the tournament but just joined. I was shocked when I first read on here we didnt get into the NIT. I cant believe how we went from on top of the world Friday night to this. I'm speechless. Saturday I was pissed but more sad than anything and now I'm just down right mad and in shock. How a team that has worked so hard all season and has 26 wins can be denied all around and not get in any postseason action is crazy. It's end to believe the season is over and this is the ending. I know we had some bad moments when we could have helped ourselves out more like on freethrows but c'mon. And as bad as I feel right now, I feel worse for our team. I saw the channel 5 story and they were just sitting there in disbelief with these blank stares on their faces and then got up to leave. They deserve better than this! I know it's probably not much to them now but they made this season one Zips fans will never forgot.

He sure did say that all the teams discussed were in....which included us. ESPN needs to be called on that as well. That's unprofessional. Then again, the whole process seems unprofessional.I'm going ahead with the 26 thing starting tomorrow lest people forget over the next 2 days. Z-P
Are you sh*ttin me?I just landed back in Shanghai and got internet access to pull up our seed in the NIT, and bang.I've personally never protested anything in my life, but I WILL PERSONALLY WALK A PICKET LINE WITH A SIGN IN MY HAND IN FRONT OF THAT WEAK ASS CRYST'S OFFICE ANY TIME YOU GUYS ARE READY TO GO.Book me for one of everything in the "26 Line of Gear".I'm just sick about this...........poor guys..........Rome, Drew if you read this, God Bless you personally and thanks for the wonderful memories you gave us!One final note................our AD should have been in some grills proping us to get the nod 5 minutes after Charlie put the dagger in on Saturday night. Understand? You don't leave these things to chance. Is our AD competent? How'd ya like our home FB schedule and OOC BB schedule this year? How many RB games we got coming in the fall. Maybe we shot too low for The Boss's replacement.

zippyrifle32
what really sucks is that nothing we do can change anything for this year. yeah we can complain and express our outrage, which is rightfully so... but nothing we do or say right now will get our team into either tournament and that's really the only way to correct this wrong. That is the worst part. This season is over for our team that has worked so hard and as much as we try to get answers (or something like them) and let them know what a screwed up job they did it wont help for this season and correct the wrong. But you can bet next season we'll come back strong. And thanks for the 26 graphics up there. Time to start sticking those up all around. BaltimoreZip
I have emailed John J. Powers. He is listed on the NIT website as "Participating Institutions," I am assuming that has something to do with choosing the Participating Institutions. You may also want to email him and let the NIT/NCAA know what you think of a 26-win team not being invited to play in the NIT....jpowers@ncaa.orgYours in the Roo!Rob NCAA------> <-------- MAC Refs
