timmyboy
wow, what a joke....... can the university and the MAC show us fans a little bit more respect. 4 home games?
ZachTheZip
Indiana screwed us over, and the MAC didn't stand up for us. We play at 2 Big Ten schools back to back.
GoZips88
Yeah, looks like we caved to Indiana. It's probably a better deal for them financially since we'll probably be able to guarantee a bit more money in 2009 when they are playing us at our new stadium and we have more butts in seats if for no other reason than the novelty of the new stadium. Hopefully we're better than Army this year on the neutral field in Cleveland. I'm going to count that one as a home game. Hopefully those from NE Ohio who are intrigued enough to attend and who aren't regular Akron fans will cheer for US.Here's a link to the MAC release ...2007 MAC Football Schedule
skip-zip
I had been fearing that this would happen for the last couple of months.Wow..only 4 games at the Bowl. And how did a school like Army manage to push us enough to get this at a "neutral venue" instead of the Bowl?I'm pretty dissappointed. zip81
I work with a West Point grad. He's very concerned about the Akron game.He says Army is down.Don't know if that's common knowlege...I don't follow them.

zipsbandman
Why doesn't anyone want to play in Cleveland? I say lets give it a try. We are much much closer to the area than BG or Toledo. I'm sure the players will get a kick out of it too. Playing Can't September 22 is great. Thank goodness no Thanksgiving. Overall not too bad but we could use one more home game. Zip_ME87
Come on Zips fans...I know Cleveland is quite a distance from Akron, but the stadium is NOT run down. it's an Akron home game our players could really be pumped to play in an NFL stadium the ROO ZOO takes over the Dawg Pound It could be fun. I went to all the zips mac tourney games in cleveland, and it really isnt as far as it seems, of the 3 days i went up... the longest it took us was 56 minutes and that was only because of a wreck, and a speed trap the state police set up that had people slowing down, but on my way to the championship game, it only took me 40 minutes to get there.... not to bad, especially for the expirence of seeing our zips play in an NFL stadium! Lets all show up in large numbers to support them.

skip-zip
Sure, Cleveland sounds nice...but...We want to WIN FOOTBALL GAMES. That's the objective. And we, and any team, have our best chance of beating someone in the stadium that they are most confortable playing in....in the case...the Rubber Bowl. LosAngelesZipFan
I am confused...was Indiana originally scheduled to play at Akron and Western Mich? Does anyone understand the dynamics behind playing Army in Cleveland? Odd unless we are making extra cash on it. And if we were willing to do that then why didn't we take the Ohio State game in Cleveland rather than ceding it to Toledo. The schedule issue was the point of my topic a week ago-- assuming we have a new stadium in 2009 (still seems aggressive to me to think it will be ready to go that quickly), we have 2 years to get an exciting schedule in place that will build on the momentum of a new stadium and hopefully 2 solid seasons. Having Kentucky be the only "marquee" opponent in that inaugural season falls way short of the goal for me. I don't mind if we continue to have crappy schedules the next 2 seasons (in addition to this past year) if we are collecting chits that secure a great schedule of impressive opponents once we have the stadium in place. Kentucky and Indiana aren't that.
ziptrumpet87
we might actually get some footage on the local news for that game since they won't have to go far. (more exposure!)

Now we have to find out who our starting QB will be (i hope it is carlton jackson), our starting offensive line (sekinger, ward, schepp, hueber, kemme sounds good to me) Starting DL ( only robinson and cechetti (SP) are the ones i can say are starting) we are pretty established at LB and DB so im glad about that. But, I believe the Zips chances in Cleveland are every bit as good as at the Rubber Bowl. How many times have we said that the Rubber Bowl in its current rundown state is despressing. A game in NE Ohio, in a new stadium, an NFL stadium --- a place all of our players would love to eventually be --- should not be a disadvantage and it won't be if JD sells it properly.I'm sorry, but I'm not going to look at this as a problem. I see it as an opportunity to draw more fans if our new marketing firm is worth anything.

Z-P
My two "cent"..............Depressing. I'll miss the 11-7 game to work, and the 11-23 game will probably be too cold for the tailgate action (not to mention our record at that time)...........I feel like I just lost my football season.Anyone know of another local team we can get behind with an AD who has some influence and gets a schedule? zipsbandman
What makes the rubber bowl more comfortable than an NFL STADIUM??? Look, they have to get on a bus to get to the bowl. They have to get on a bus to get to Cleveland. We should be able to beat army anywhere we play. If we cannot beat that team then we have issues anyway. timmyboy
Anyone know of another local team we can get behind with an AD who has some influence and gets a schedule? I know it is a lower division but walsh university in N.Canton has a pretty good football team (a couple of former akron players who got shafted by akron now play here) an they are playin some of the toughest teams in their division. you can check them out if your serious. If you really want to do that, go past the Rubber Bowl out 224 and then drop south to Alliance. I believe they have a decent team there...a number of D-III Championships as I recall.Talk about a team that gets no respect in NE Ohio. Do you ever hear about Mount Union until the Stagg Bowl?Actually, how much do you hear about the Stagg Bowl?
AZipsCrazy
IMO, the schedule isn't really that bad, maybe I'm an optimist (not to mention I've got some friends I want to see at IU haha). I think playing in an nice NFL stadium is AWESOME. I don't know about you guys but I'm getting hammered for that game. Call me 'crazy' but I think this team is going to much improved with the young talent stepping in. I am expecting the season to play out like this:W September 1st -- Army (Browns Stadium)L September 8th -- @ Ohio StateW September 15th -- @ IndianaW September 22nd -- Can't StateW September 29th -- @ ConnecticutL October 6th -- @ Western MichiganW October 13th -- TempleW October 27th -- @ BuffaloW *November 2nd -- @ Bowling Green ESPNUW #November 7th -- Ohio ESPN 2W #November 14th -- @ Miami ESPN 2L *November 23rd -- Central Michigan ESPNU9-3 and another MAC Championship makes it 10-3 and back to Detroit for the Motorcity BowlLike I said "call me CRAZY" but I really like what this team has alot better than what they had last year
Quickzips
If it's promoted right the game in Browns stadium could be a very good deal.If it's promoted like most everything else lately, it will probably be crap.
johnnyzip84
The Army game in Cleveland doesn't bother me. Drawing Western and Central from the West does.
