Buckzip
"Winning will sell your place out; and thats the bottom line cuz eguin said so... JK."No need to post J/k. You are absolutely correct.Winning cures all attendance ills.
urbanpreppie05
Winning will sell your place out; and thats the bottom line cuz eguin said so... JK.I'm not arguing with you at all! :-) I just want you to try and understand that a good reason that attendace has been so low are the reasons I and others have stated, and a new stadium will help bring in more people. And that's the bottom line! JK.
Blue & Gold
It was mentioned in the Beacon today that a Damon's is scheduled to open downtown later this year sometime. That's a big step forward for the downtown/U district - getting a major-name restaurant to open downtown. I wonder if this is tied to the stadium development at all? I wonder if this is tied to the stadium development at all?Lets hope it is going to be one of the proposed restaurants that will be on Exchange outside of the stadium. That would be huge. I am not sure if it is connected to the stadium plans, though. The city has been trying very hard to revitalise the downtown area. That apartment complex with the Chrissie Hynde restaurant in it was the first step. They also plan on demolishing all the buildings adjacent to the Civic theatre and rebuilding the area with new shops and such. Damon's could end up there. Or it could end up replacing Jillians since they closed. There's way too much stuff happening downtown to suspect that any announcements have to do with the stadium at the moment. ROCK1
Building a new arena/stadium doesn't always equate with better attendance. The MAC's two newest basketball arenas (NIU and EMU) have had problems getting 3,000 fans.A winning program over a prolonged period of time builds a fan base. BTW, I hope Akron builds a real stadium out of concrete and not one of those tinker toy ones with steel girders like Central Florida is building. akronad
The new Damon's will be in the O'neils Bldg., just north of the Barley House. It will also serve as home to the Ohio Brewing Co., which will be a micro-brew pub. They no longer are going to tear down the bldgs. north of the Civic. Renovations have already begun to the interiors of those structures. The City is hoping that the Main St. levels will contain shops & restaurants, while the remainder will be either condo's or offices. They have already removed the parking deck that was behind and connected to the Civic. That area I believe is Lock IV and they hope to create green space in that area.Supposedly prior to Mike Thomas leaving Akron, he had already received commitments from various shops, boutiques and restaurants for the new stadium. The MAC's two newest basketball arenas (NIU and EMU) have had problems getting 3,000 fansI almost forgot NIU!! Thanks! EMU, I don't know a lot about their situation, but NIU's convo center was built too big and is located in rural/suburban Dekalb county- there's not a strong population base. It also is not used very frequently due to the location and proximity of other venues within close range. All I'm saying is, UA can/will be able to bring seats due to the better-as-of-recent-years record, and a strong population base. 19-21K avg. in the first year? Likely.50K? Not until we have some better records and a stronger fan base, which this new stadium will help bring. Give it time.
