UA Fan
What should the name of this new stadium be?They should be able to salvage the Rubber Bowl press box, seating, and scoreboards for the new stadium. The name should be Son of Rubber Bowl, RB2 or RB Jr (I'm suddenly hungry for a roast beef sandwich) We'll have to have some future discussions of what should be done with the old Rubber Bowl after the Zips vacate. An on-campus stadium will add a lot to the collegiate feel as would a clock tower. Carillon bells that could play the alma mater would be the ultimate. It's important too though not to overreach on architectural elements and end up with something too dorky or gimmicky. It's hard to imagine watching the Zips playing at home from a suite or loge (let alone HS football). Can't wait to see the final design. If they're clearing land by the end of the year can it still be finished in 20 months to start the 09 season? Zips DM
How about we re-create the arch/gate from the open end of the RB... I know it would mean a lot to band members past and present.

A campanile would be a great addition as long as they stay away from CBR bricks (think any of the CVS drug stores; huge ugly bricks) and either use real bells or a really good sound system to mimic real bells.Ah, nothing quite like being on campus during a crisp fall day, sound of the band warming up, big football game about to start, chiming bells. Zipsrifle
Let's take the airdock and move it so we can continue that unique tailgating experience!I love the clock tower. I like the "U" shaped stadium as long as the open end is towards Exchange street with a nice big scoreboard, at least as big as Miami's. I also think it would be cool to drive down Exchange and get a glimpse into the stadium!I don't know if I'm too keen on the open corners. I can see less seating in the endzone, with pilings below ground for a future roof. It would also be great if there was a good view of Campus/Downtown from what I belive would be the Visitors side. eguins
Listen, your city is THREE Times Larger than Youngstown, with a much larger MSA Population than Youngstown. Your University has 10,000 more students than YSU. What do we compete with in the fall, not much. High School Football Dominates Friday Night, College on Saturday's, and NFL on Sundays. You can say you compete with the Aeros and say they sell out every night. Sure???? First off, not one of their home games and your home's even interfere on the same day this year!http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...t=l_att&lid=113The place seats over 9000, they are averaging 5,130 in 2007. I will give it you compete with more in your city and more in Cleveland than us; but I think your guy's main problem with the attendance is playing on Thursday Nights, opposed to Saturday Nights! If you guys can get a winning team in there and play all your home games on saturday's, I bet you could get near sell out's every game when the new stadium comes! He also stated that a rendering would be made available to him and he should have it sometime today or tomorrow.Let the anticipation begin. RACER
i still think they need to make the stadium at least 35k.you don't know what is going to happen in the future.no conference is going to take a team with a 25k stadium.at least i hope they leave the possiblity of expansion in the future.mac put a good spin on why our attendance is bad because of the rubber bowl. i dont know one person who says they won't go a zip game because of the rubber bowl.people don't go because we have one leauge title followed by the below .500 season.we do need a new stadium, but it's not the reason people don't go to the games. Zipsrifle
We need to add another topic location on the main board. Can I request to have, just below the "MAC SMACK AND JOKES", a forum for: "ANNOYING POSTERS FROM DI-AA SCHOOLS THAT THINK THIER CITY AND SCHOOL ARE THE BEST EVER AND WILL READILY SPEND HOURS DIGGING UP USELESS INFORMATION TO SUPPORT THIS FACT"? Within this form, could we pin the following topics:1) Why Akron is scared to play DI-AA School2) Why Akron's facilities suck compared to DI-AA School3) Why Akron in general just sucks compared to DI-AA School4) Why the city of Akron is not as good as DI-AA town5) Ways to Kill DI-AA MascotsThis way, I can go to one place to read and discuss mindless babble about a school I really don't care about. You could also put a link there for chat rooms to DI-AA Schools so that I can go there and annoy their fans.Thank you!
