Zipgrad01 Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 I can not believe he backed out of his commitment to Akron once again. Good riddance to this kid. It seemed like we were his fall back choice anyway. Since he came up short on his SAT score and can't qualify he is headed to Milford Academy for a year. He has "opened up his recruitment" once again and Akron no longer is an option it seems. Good luck and good riddance. Quote
Zips fan Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 There is some info on Razor's Blog about this. Quote
Buckzip Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 How about that. One of our top recruits didn't make the grades and will probably never play for UA. Quote
blueandgold Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 What's with our WR recruits? I was hoping for Hill to step right in for Harvey and we wouldn't miss a beat. So much for that. Looks like we have an extra scholorship available now. Quote
Beanie 4 Heisman Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 Welcome to the life of a mid-major. Harvey actually didnt qualify out of high school and we were the only school that kept with him and he ended up come back to us because of the loyalty we showed to him. Last year we lost a few guys to prep schools as well. most notably Mark Jackson. I'm not sure where he ended up signing at now or if he did. I believe DJ Henderson also went to a prep school out of last years class. So we end up losing quite a few recruits. I'm sure we will lose more than vince hill out of this years class to academic reasons. Quote
timsum1283 Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 let's go jerome royal and Marquinn Davis! Quote
Zipgrad01 Posted August 3, 2007 Author Report Posted August 3, 2007 Mark Jackson ended up signing with Illinois. Rivals "upgraded" him to a 4 star player last year as well. Quote
w00t Posted August 3, 2007 Report Posted August 3, 2007 Why do we even bother getting excited about our recruiting classes? Quote
Blue & Gold Posted August 3, 2007 Report Posted August 3, 2007 Why do we even bother getting excited about our recruiting classes? I must admit that the low recruit retention rate over the past few years has really started to negatively influence me. I find myself less interested in recruiting now than since I became a bigtime Zips fan about 13 years ago. Quote
Zipgrad01 Posted August 3, 2007 Author Report Posted August 3, 2007 I have often gone to Rivals and pulled up our old classes. The thing that sucks is it is always our highest rated recruits that fail us. These guys obviously don't end up at the bigger schools for a reason and we always seem to get burned by them. I hope this changes because just about every (actually, it may be all) 3 star we have ever gotten is already gone. I just hope the 2007 class doesn't follow suit as a whole. Vince Hill is the first 3 star to wave goodbye before ever stepping on the field. Quote

RACER Posted August 4, 2007 Report Posted August 4, 2007 this is one reason why recruit rankings mean nothing.between failing out, transfer out of school, injuries ect what matters is the records on the feild.everyone got so excited when we had the top mac rankings two years ago.if jd has a good year this year all this bad press will be forgotten. Quote
skip-zip Posted August 4, 2007 Report Posted August 4, 2007 I agree that this dampens the enthusiasm of seeing a highly-rated recruiting class. But, when you are a MAC team, you have to go after these kinds of players. Many good players have come here in the last 20 years because we took a chance, and they did eventually qualify. Then again, we've also had situations like this one.You have to take those chances when you play at our level. Quote
