timmyboy Posted August 31, 2007 Report Posted August 31, 2007 Jackson senior running back CARLIN ISLES carried the ball 20 times for 164 yards and one touchdown Friday night against Westerville South. Isles also had a 79-yard touchdown reception (on a screen play), and Jackson won 29-21.This week Jackson plays @ Nordonia n Friday night at 7:00 PMLARRY DAWSON of Akron North Helped the Vikings pull an upset against host Rootstown on friday night. Dawson showed his speed and ability to make tacklers miss the whole night. he carried the ball 17 times for 130 yards, and also had a reception for 16 yards. This Week North plays @ Akron Coventry Friday night at 7:00 PM.WILL FLEMING, son of Akron coach Jim Flemming showed why he is one of the best players in the state on thursday night at home against Neighborhood Rival, Akron Garfield. Will did a very nice job on the defensive side of the ball, but his standout play of the game was his catch with just over 3 minnutes left in the game. That catch turned out to be the game winner as the Knights beat visiting Garfield 24-21. Fleming had 6 catches for 102 yards and the game winning TDThis week Hoban (home) plays against Walsh Jesuit on Friday night at 7:00 PMWHITNEY MARCELIUS (SP?) of Akron Garfield had a very good game for the Visiting Rams against Akron Hoban. He played both offense (TE) and Defense (DE) and had some nice blocks that led the way for Garfield RB Tyson Gulley to rush for 112 yards (1TD) on 21 carries. This week Garfield plays @ Copley on Friday night at 7:00 PMJohn Adams of Akron Buchtel had a rough outing in his first regular season start in his new position (quarterback). Thats normal for any team trying to break in a new first year coach, offensive line and QB. I look for Buchtel to turn things around midway thru the season.... but that may be to late. Buchtel isnt the only school having trouble getting on track with a new coach, look at ST EDWARDS..... their dominate year in and out, but with the new coach they are now 0-2 after losing tonight to euclid. This week Buchtel plays @ Steubenville on Friday night at 7:00 PM Quote
Blue & Gold Posted August 31, 2007 Report Posted August 31, 2007 Thanks Timmyboy,It sounds like we should be keeping an eye on the RB from Firestone as well. I forget his name, but Flossie said he believed he was just as talented as Antonio Pittman was. He is 5'11", 190 and ran for well over 100 yards last week. Quote

I can't remember any big time football players coming from FHS. Swimmers, yes. But very few football players. Quote

I can't remember any big time football players coming from FHS. Swimmers, yes. But very few football players. You have Mike Miller from the class of 99-00. He was a big, fast and extremely strong safety/running back (6'1 225LBS) for the Falcons. He had offers from OSU,Florida,Pitt and alot of other big schools, but his grades and the crowd he was hanging out with caused him to take the wrong path and he never ended up going to any of the schools. You also have Terrance Bailey from that same class. had the size and speed to go to a big time school and was getting serious looks by big schools, but grades killed him. The Hollowed name is Firestone, we sing our praise to thee.........It sounds like you went about the same time I did if you graduated from UA in 87.Were you in the FHS band with H. Scott Curfman? You know he is the director of bands at Can't....Jeff Merrow is the DL you are talking about I believe. Quote
ziptrumpet87 Posted September 1, 2007 Report Posted September 1, 2007 Yeah, I was there then (class of '83) and loved having "Mr. C" for band. He had applied to be the director at UA when Jacoboice "stepped down", but didn't have the arranging background that Golemo did. Quote
Buckzip Posted September 1, 2007 Report Posted September 1, 2007 I graduated in 82. I wonder who you are....HMmmmm Quote
