Buckzip Posted September 3, 2007 Report Posted September 3, 2007 But I must say "some" of the fans of the big programs don't get it.I was at another teams site. I won't say which one.(lol)Someone posted a thread that he was walking in the parking deck going to the Toledo vs Purdue game. He was wearing his "other" schools colors. Another fan yelled at him that he should wear the team he was going to see colors. He reacted by assuming that the guy yelling at him was someone from the other teams bitter rival. Well, everyone that responded to that post agreed with him. Needless to say, I posted that the guy was more than likely a Toledo fan and that he felt very disrespected. I let them know that the feeling that they felt was part of the arrogance of why other schools fans detest that school and their fans. These guys really don't get it. He said that a lot of other fans were wearing the same "other" school colors, but that one guy is the only one that cared. Again, I explained that that guy was the only one with the nads to say something.I know that was pretty hard to follow and I will probably get the usual attacks that ensue whenever I post about anything non UA.However, that thread really pissed me off.Being a graduate of 2 different schools, allows me to see things both ways.As much as "some" on this board tick me off when they have no idea what they are talking about, it works the other way too. bobbyake Posted September 3, 2007 Report Posted September 3, 2007 "your other schools colors" ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????You either go, went, or have ties to the other school or else you're a frontrunner. I'm not calling you a frontrunner but I've seen so many retarded Akron students and alumni wearing OSU clothing and every time I do, I laugh at them because they'll be nothing in life. People who think small are frontrunners. People who can't dream. People who don't see the point in rooting for there own school because they have yet to accomplish great deeds at a national level. People who don't know what overcoming adversity is all about. So be it. They can root for the winners, but they’ll always be losers. Quote

When you attend a school, that school is the one that should get 100% of your allegiance. The right thing for you to do would have been to cut all ties with OSU the first day you set foot on the MU campus (I know I am going to get some disagreement on this from some on this thread who see otherwise). I will never understand those who think that it is okay to root for OSU because they are "Ohio's" team. Those folks are just dead wrong. Schools do not represent geographical areas, only professional sports teams do. There are two football teams that represent the state of Ohio and they are the Browns and the Bengals. OSU is a school. It is either yours or it is someone else's. Quote

jeaglet1 Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 I might be in the minority here, but I dont have a problem with people rooting for other teams, as long as their school is first. If Akron is playing OSU and you are an Akron student, its a no brainer who you should root for. However, if they are playing different teams, I dont see a problem with it. I believe being a fan of a school shouldn't be exclusive to their alumni. I am an Arizona State fan, but never went there. I went there on business and loved the campus, atmosphere people, etc... But if ASU plays my school, I sure wont be rooting for ASU. Quote

I am positive that when I attend classes this week that the OSU apparrel will outnumber the Akron apparrel at least 3-1. It will only get worse as the week goes on.To all the students that read this board: If someone yells "AK", you had better reply with a "ROWDY". Drown out any OH-IO crap people might start. Offer to trade a Zips shirt to anyone wearing OSU crap. I'm personally going to carry 2 extra Zips shirts with my books for just such an occassion. Quote

So if you go/went to Akron and you wear OSU stuff, you're going nowhere in life? Hmm...well, I graduated from Akron and own some OSU stuff (had family members that went there, as I've mentioned in the past)...I have a full-time job that pays me quite well, live in a great apartment, and have an amazing girlfriend. I'm doing pretty well if I must say so myself. So...well...you're wrong lol. We've been through this whole conversation before, but to say someone won't go anywhere in life because of the college football team they cheer for...well, I just hope you said that tongue in cheek, because otherwise you are far out of touch with reality. What do you even mean by that? No matter what you mean by it, I'm pretty sure you're delusional. On an unrelated note, you seem to think that Akron is going to come away from The Shoe with a victory on Saturday. Here's your opportunity to put your money where your mouth is Mr. Ake... I'll give you 20 points on a $100 bet on the UA/OSU game this week. Surely if you're predicting a Zips victory then 20-points of padding should make this the most confident bet you've ever placed. Also, your station in life undoubtedly affords you the opportunity to throw $100 around on a whim (y'know, because you've never put on another school's athletic apparel so you're something in life). What do you say? Quote

bobbyake Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 hey sgm, you can enjoy your job, your white picket fence, and your middle class lifestyle. There's happiness in that, and I could follow that path easily with a degree in Accounting. But I'm aiming for the stars while on this planet. People who are frontrunners are the ones that don't dare to dream. But hey, one day you'll read about a guy from Akron that accomplished amazing things because he dared to dream big. ps. if you're tired of seeing the section 8 people running in and out of the Mayflower, I've been trying to figure out better uses for that building. I'm planning trips to Chicago, NY, and Boston to get ideas visiting buildings about what would work in Akron. Maybe one day you'll work in one of my skyscrapers.and wOOt, If I was going to bet $100, I'd buy 12 shares of Ford. Quote

You really do believe that what college team you cheer for is tied to your success in life. Seriously, wow. I won't even begin to guess how out of touch with reality you must be. As for my lifestyle, you don't even know what I do or why I do it. I could've done a lot of things as well, but chose the profession that I always wanted to do. And I know one thing - it's a hell of a lot more rewarding than building a skyscraper would be. But to each and their own guess. I sincerely hope your plans work out and your dreams are accomplished. I just hope you're more intelligent with your planning for that than you are your theory that success in life is somehow tied to being a collegiate sports fan. Quote

All of this "dare to dream" and "aim high" rhetoric is hilarious considering you're using it to imply that cheering for UA's football team and hating OSU will really take you places in life and make you a better person. We're talking about supporting a college football team, not curing cancer for crying out loud. Quote
RowdyZip Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 How many times are we going to see this whole ordeal replayed on these boards? Yes...some of you like OSU and like Akron, some of you love OSU and love Akron, some of you hate OSU and love Akron and some dont give a rats a$$ about OSU and love Akron. I belong to the latter. But here's a clue for those of you that have such a deep hatred of Ohio State: DONT TALK ABOUT THEM ON A ZIPS BOARD!!!!!! Sure, fine, discuss the teams this week when they are opposing eachother on the field, discuss the hell out of them later this fall when we have them at Lee Jackson for Soccer (where we're MORE THAN LIKELY to beat them). Dont piss on other Zips fans just because they follow other teams. As long as AKRON comes first, especially when the two teams are competing on the field, live with the fact that that individual is an Akron fan FIRST. As for me, I'll live in my state of apathy towards the Buckeyes. My parents and my family raised me following Ohio State and for no reason. The second I attended this fine institution that loyalty to the school in Columbus disappeared. If someone asks you the Buckeyes score, avoid ranting about your intense hatred. Say, "You know, I dont really know. I don't follow the Buckeyes, but did you see the Zips beat K.E.N.T. by 35 yesterday?!" Hatred burns more bridges with fellow fans than apathy does. That being said...and just like every week...GO ZIPS!!! BEAT OHIO STATE!!!!I'm sure we'd all love nothing more than to see a Zips win Saturday, regardless of where our secondary loyalty lies. Quote
