bobbyake
1. The band wears berets when not marching on the field. This is French, and quite effeminite.2. The team colors are the same colors of the Vichy French -red and black. This is French. 3. The band plays French tunes. Pregame, they play "Francais Nationale Defile March." During halftime, they play the 1812 Overture simply so they could play the French national anthem.4. Their mascot is a bearded mime. This is French. 5. The mime is known by the of Brutus. Aptly named, Brutus derives from the Latin brutus, meaning "heavy, dull and stupid." 6. After a rare TD, the Ohio State Band celebrates in the gayest way possible. They give each other piggyback rides, band members celebrates by swinging a stuffed banana around and around. 7. Sweatervests are very big among French men. This is French. 8. Carmen Ohio has Ohio State fans mimicking the hand motions for Y-M-C-A.9. Ohio State thought so little of their Buckeye Grove tradition (where a Buckeye tree is planted for each Buckeye to win 1st team All-American honors) that they destroyed the grove and replanted the trees in 2001.10. Ohio State copied the "Tunnel of Pride" idea from Michigan, as it looks very similar to Michigan players touching the Go Blue banner. Oh, and this so-called tradition is 12 years old.11. The idiotic practice of putting stickers on a helmet.12. The most recognizable song the Ohio State band plays is "Hang On Sloopy," a mediocre pop song.13. The Buckeye jerseys are ... wait a second, there is NO tradition there, because they change their jerseys so often - two changes in the last two years.14. The Ohio State band's uniforms are copied from the Salvation Army.
bobbyake
An Ohio State fan, a Michigan fan, and a Nebraska fan were walking along the beach, when they came across a magic genie. The magic genie said he would grant them each one wish. The Nebraska fan said that his father was a farmer, he was a farmer, and his son would farm, so he wished that the land would be forever fertile in Nebraska. The genie promptly granted his wish. The Ohio State fan was impressed with this, and then wished for a wall to completely surround the state of Ohio so that no Wolverine fan could ever get inside. The Genie granted his wish. Then, the Michigan fan said, "Tell me more about this wall." the genie answered "It is 150 ft high, and 50 ft wide, and nothing can get in or out of it." So the Michigan fan replied, "Fill it up with water!"
bobbyake
QUOTESDuring Maurice Clarett’s allegations of academic fraud, an Ohio State professor let slip reference to “faculty members that are devout fans and gave any grade they want.”(source: The Drake Group)"The purpose isn't to educate and graduate," says Drake Group associate director David Ridpath. "They're eligibility mills." "I don't think he's [Clarett's] lying. If he feels it's right to speak out, then I'm behind him 100%."-Chris Vance, former Ohio State wide receiver"He gave us furniture all the time. At least $2,000 worth of nice tables and couches." -Marco Cooper, former Ohio State linebacker, speaking about an Ohio State booster"When you'd leave, [the booster] sets you straight. They say, 'You got any money in your pocket?' They make sure your money's straight."-Maurice Clarett, former Ohio State tailback"What would have become of Ohio State if I said everything? Half the team would have been suspended, and it would have been worse for everybody. I was like, 'Why don't I just take it?'"-Maurice Clarett, former Ohio State tailback"Ohio State created me. They created what they suspended."-Maurice Clarett, former Ohio State tailback"Andy [Katzenmoyer] is not someone who was dedicated to excellence in the classroom."-Former Ohio State Athletic Director Andy Geiger"My G.P.A. was bad [0.0] because I never attended class. It wasn't bad because I did the work and failed."-Reggie Germany, former Ohio State wide receiver"I don't say that anymore. I found out four things can happen on a forward pass. The fourth is that you can get fired." -Woody Hayes, former Ohio State coach

Buckzip
Some of that is pretty good. However, I thought everyone knew that everything that came out of MOC mouth was a lie. Everything he said was found to be BS.You may also not know that both Marco Cooper and Reggie(0.0)Germany were kicked off the team too. Of course you conveniently left that out.Of course when you want to believe................BTW, what are some Akron traditions???????I have been a fan for a long long time, and can't think of any.Help me out.. bobbyake
i'm only 23 so some of the things we do at the games aren't traditions yet. but here's one we'd like to start. Zippy goes crowd surfing I'm in the video btw, I'm under zippy until the end. You'll see me looking around for my hat after we put Zippy down. Buckzip
That was good. However, do you think that is really a tradition? We need something really cool that is different. My mind is blank on that kind of stuff.Maybe once the new stadium is done, we can have a pep rally the night before each home game at the Stile field house. Then the morning of the game meet the team in the field house and follow them and the band to the stadium. We need something that gets the students involved. If they are involved, they are more likely to come to the game.
ZachTheZip
No official pep rallys or "skull sessions", or whatever you want to call them, will happen because it means that the University will actually have to do something that could get the fans involved. You know how much they hate those people that keep interfering with the nice quiet atmosphere of home games and make it difficult to sell gigantic empty blocks of seats to companies that don't send anybody to sit in them. bobbyake
Growing up in Ohio, it's very easy to be an OSU fan. I've rooted for OSU up until my freshman year in college. It's hard to not root for them with how much media coverage they get. That's what turned me off as a fan of OSU. I first realized that Akron gets no respect from the local populous and then realized that supporting OSU only encourages the media to continue on with there disrespect towards my school. I'm an Akron student and my heart belongs to the Zips. If a school far south is causing the local newspaper to disrespect my team, I'm going to want change. That change comes with OSU loosing.BuckZip, I understand your situation and have nothing against you rooting for OSU. It's people like sgm that blows my mind. Akron alumni and students that root for OSU gives the Akron Beacon Journal and the Plain Dealer a reason to continue putting OSU on a pedestal.I'm sorry if my anti-OSU attitude offends anyone. The only way it ends is when OSU is treated like OU, Cinci, or any other Ohio college that's not local in the Beacon Journal or the Plain Dealer. Akron or Can't should always be first in those papers. This community needs to realize that Columbus is not the only city in Ohio with a D1 school. flipthezip
With the new stadium, there are numerous things that can be planned for game day and set to become a tradition.1. The Players Walk - If they eat the pre-game meal at either the Student Union or The University Club, there should be a walk to the stadium through campus.2. Band and cheerleaders pre-pre-game at Schrank Field with a march over to the stadium. If the players do eat at the Student Union, they and the coaches could easily walk by Schrank Field for this - similar to the Big 10+1 school to the south stopping by the Least Darn Group of Musicians in Ohio pre-game event.3. A first down cheer of - "GO ZIPS" each time we get one.4. JD has started a great tradition with having the team sing the Fight Song with the band after each home game. Keep it up and hopefully add a more voices of fans who stay for 4 full quarters of football. At least in the new stadium the seats will be more comfortable to last the 3 hours.Just a quick thought - Many more to come.

One of the weirdest things I see in Ohio is people whom go to other Ohio colleges with all kinds of OSU gear. One of my managers at work went to OU but has his entire office decorated with OSU junk. WTF?Anytime I find out someone is an OSU fan I find out if A) The went to OSU or B ) They never graduated from another Ohio college. If A or B aren't true, I don't respect them as a fan. Its their choice though so I try not to slam them for it.

Its their choice though so I try not to slam them for it. Good post. That is pretty fair except for one exception.I was a fan before going to OSU. Growing up Akron was DII. Like I said before, it was sort of like OSU was the varsity and Akron was the JV. When you grow up with that, it is kind of hard to change. If you can do it, good for you. However, not all of us can. Actually Akron became DIA about the time I graduated. Therefore, they were always below OSU in that term.I remember being a kid, and going to Akron games. Whenever Akron would get beat I would always think to myself, yeah they may beat Akron, but OSU will defend the honor of Akron. Hey, I was a kid. I didn't know better. To me, and I am sure others, they were completely non combatants. It was like being a Browns fan and a OSU fan. They never played, so it was ok.It is sort of like right now you can be a fan of the Akron Aeros and of the Indians.Let's say you are a huge fan of both. All of a sudden, Akron magically becomes a MLB team. How could you just stop being a fan of one of the teams you followed for umpteen years? I know this apples and oranges as a minor league team will never just turn into a MLB team, but it is the same dilemma. When you grow up and have years and years of loving a team and following a team invested, you can't just turn it off. At least I can't.Yes, I received my undergrad from Akron and my MBA from OSU. However, I was fans of both teams before I ever stepped foot on either campus. If they are younger than I would say 30, I agree fully. However, if they are older than that, there is a good chance they grew up when Akron was a DiAA. That is a different level of football.Hey, if some 12 year old from Akron is out there cheering on OSU, he probably is a front runner. I agree. But if it is a 40 year old man, that is a different story.
ZachTheZip
So what about all the morons that wore OSU gear all week to classes at UA? They outnumbered people with Zips gear (Not Akron gear, Zips gear. There is a difference).I didn't ask them why they wore it, I already knew what they would say, which is the same response the Akron B(low) J(ob) would give: OSU is big-time, Akron is small stuff, this is just a scrimmage. You know, the same response that they would have given when UA was D-II. I blame it all on the BJ (you are located in AKRON, idiots) and UA marketing (I have yet to see a significant marketing campaign targeted at the community, i.e. not businesses paying for empty seats). BTW, I find it silly to rip on OSU's traditions. When we can do this, or anything close to it - ...then we can talk.
