K-Roo
http://www.local6.com/sports/14128304/detail.htmlORLANDO, Fla. -- A committee overseeing the University of Central Florida's new on-campus stadium will be tacking concerns about a lack of water fountains at the facility after more than a dozen people suffered from heat exhaustion at the school's first game Saturday. The Knights lost to the Texas Longhorns 35-32 on Saturday.During the game, emergency crews passed out free cups of water while several people suffered heat exhaustion. $55 million and no water fountains??? Hope we don't do something similar....
Ryno aka Menace
Damn?!! That is messed up and bad pub for the company that built the stadium. I wonder if it was done on purpose to increase concession sales and it backfired on them?
zen
I wonder if it was done on purpose to increase concession sales and it backfired on them? That wouldn't suprise me AT ALL. I'm sure that was the line of thinking, and it just never occured to them that people would get heat exhaustion. Even if hot temperatures came up in the conversation, I'm sure they just assumed that people would spend the money on concessions rather than dehydrate and such.IF they were barring people from bringing water in through the gates, then they could have lawsuits from a situation like that. skip-zip
If I were a betting man, I'd also say that water fountains are omitted intentionally to force people to pay $3 for a bottle of water.
Zipgrad01
They absolutely did it to sell more water and soft drinks at the concession areas. I can somewhat understand schools getting away with the lack of fountains "up north" in Akron because our game temps are never that hot unless it is the 1st game or two, but in Central Florida? zip81
Anyone who has been to Disney World can tell you what Orlando water tastes like.Maybe they didn't put the drinking fountains in as a public service.
UAZips
I've had the same thing at Canal Park. Game in the middle of July, 100 degrees out, and their fountains mysteriously "didn't work." They sure as hell work fine in the fall when it's 50 out though. Zipsrifle
From what I saw of UCF's stadium, it was built to maximize seating and bare bones on everything else. It's a pile of crap. While we're on the topic of bad facilities, what was the deal at Ohio stadium with the pissers? Pissing in a tent!?! After the MILLIONS they spent on that place a few years ago and the fans have to piss in a tent. I have to admit, it is still better than the RB, but I'm glad the path UA took with InfoCision!
