GP1
WARNING....BUTT MONKEY ALERT.I hate to say it, BUTT the style of defense we play is the reason we have been out scored 44-3 or something this year in the third quarter. That's giving up 11 points per third quarter. Please don't anyone tell us how good this defense is or throw out statistics. This defense is too easy to figure out and teams go into the locker room and come out in the third quarter and kill it. Our defense allows for little adjustments as they are either all in defending the run our all in defending the pass. By the time we figure out what other teams are doing, it's the fourth quarter and we are fighting for our lives. We will continue to do well with this defense against MAC schools because they aren't very good. WVU uses the same 3-3-5 defense and looks good against bad schools. When we play good schools, we are depending too much on guessing or the other team making a mistakes. I don't like guessing. The non-conference schedule is now over and we will look better on defense next week because the teams aren't as good in conference as non-conference and we will be able to control the ball more on offense.Again, it's too late to do anything about it this year. This style of defense has to go. I've been saying it since the MACC two years ago on this board.
bobbyake
The 3-3-5 can stay as long as they throw in a 4-3 or a 3-4 to mix things up a bit.
Kiel Fleming
can we play a 10-0-1 and just hope they don't pass?
74ZIP
defense?! what defense?! some of us have been questioning this defensive scheme for a long time...2 weeks in a row it gets trashed especially on the ground...JD AND FRIENDS...YOU DON'T WIN CONSISTENTLY IF YOU RUN THIS 3-WHATEVER AND CAN'T STOP THE GROUND GAME...THE INJURIES ARE NOT AN EXCUSE BECAUSE THEY HAVE ALWAYS GIVEN UP BIG YARDS ON THE GROUND SINCE JD BROUGHT IN THIS d-COORDINATOR AND SCHEME
skip-zip
Unless we can recruit and develop some DTs and DEs, and get some depth up front, we can't run a 4-3 defense. And we're a long way from accomplishing that.
GP1
The 3-3-5 can stay as long as they throw in a 4-3 or a 3-4 to mix things up a bit. It really can't be the base defense. We should be playing a 3-4 and on third an long a nickle which is the 3-3-5.
