:wall: 5th game of the season..neither the offense nor unfortunately the defense look much different than last yaer...AND the defense was supposed to hold the fort for a while...well, can't trashed them...they were fortunate that can't didn't play last week like they played at OU...the offense is stagnant...the QB position is a mess..the running game is still inconsistent and the tight ends stink!...Jabbari is the ONLY go to wide out and teams are making it hard to get him the ball..the defense is giving up acres of yards on the ground and there is still no pass rush...when do we see progress COACH?

What is this? Some negativity? I have been reading and listening for 4 years now to the folks on this sight, but every time I say something negative, I get put down. Let me say a few things. JD is NOT a genius. I kept hearing about his great recruiting classes. These are almost all his players now! Where are we? He decided to take over the special teams this year. (Who had them since he has been here? JD!) We got burned for a KO return yesterday, our punting game is an embarassment. We are finally getting a decent placekicking game, but we don't get much of a chance to use him!As far as coaching goes, JD is a good salesman. He sells recruits every year on the program, even though most of them don't qualify, he sold himself to get the job, and he has sold us a bill of goods! He does not keep his word, taking away scholarships from deserving kids (more on this after the season.)He was MAC COY with the previous coach's players, won the MAC the next year with most of the previous coach's kids, and nothing since. My greatest wish is that we have a great season and he takes another job, or we have a terrible season and he gets fired!Let the complaining begin!

I agree with most of what "uafan" says. Obviously, he purports to know about JD operations that many of us are not privy to.Too many on this board have been cheerleaders for JD; not that we want the other extreme: bashing for the sake of bashing. But incisive analysis is in order. I have cut way down on my participation in this forum because thoroughgoing analysis is not favored. In fact, there are certain personages on this board who have honed "ad hominem" attacks to near professional levels and the managers of the board just let it go on.The message is: "We want to live in the fantasy world we have created for ourselves." These folks do not want to have to think; they merely want to cheer and trash those who refuse to cheer with them when there is nothing to cheer!Until the leadership of ZipsNation shape it up, I would not recommend participation to anybody.

uafan....I disagree with you about the special teams. The special teams are much improved from last year. Do you recall that we couldn't kick a field goal (or sometimes extra points) last year? That our punts were getting blocked? And, our KO returns have looked pretty darn good with Williams back there this year. I would not judge our special teams performance this year based on one KO return getting through for a touchdown.Let me add this also...JD's MAC championship team was helped tremendously by two big additions. Luke Getsy transferring from Pitt, and Brett Biggs coming in as a transfer at RB. Also, freshman linebacker Kevin Grant, and guys like Branden Anderson, Chris Kemme, and transfer Davanzo Tate were very helpful pieces to that puzzle. Plus, the previous year, Charlie Frye had a near-1,000 yd. RB in Brett Biggs, which really helped us get bowl-eligible, and helped JD get COY. So, I certainly would not say that JD won a MAC title because he had the other coaches players. If anyone would rather have LO as our coach at this point, I personally think you are crazy. Honestly, I thought this would be a rebuilding year. BUT, the MAC East is not going to be very strong this year. We have as good of a chance as just about anyone at this point, especially with one good quality win already under our belts. Yesterday sucked, but lets keep our heads high and support this team, and let this thing play out for a few more weeks and see how we progress. Anything close to a MAC title would be a good year, in my opinion, based on the players we lost from last year's team. If this year ends up turning bad on us, and the coming year does not look all that promising, then I would think that we've reached the point where JD might have to be examined closely. But for now, this could still turn out to be a pretty decent year. Lets support our Zips. Go Zips !!

Call me a rationalist or a realist, but going into this season I did not EXPECT the Zips to win any of the 3 games against BCS opponents. In fact, besides the 2nd half collapse yesterday, this season has gone pretty much according to what most people would think has been expected. Is there plenty of room for improvement? Yes, of course. Do some of JD's decisions deserve to be questioned? Yeah, I'd agree. But what is with, what I consider, an expectation that the Zips should be playing SUBSTANTIALLY better than they have thus far? Have we forgotten games like the the 65-0 loss to Miami U not so long ago? I'll gladly take a 2nd half collapse against a decent (at least) UConn team over having a fellow MAC member offering a humiliating slice of "mercy" by taking a knee with the ball in our territory BEFORE HALFTIME!!! My point is simple. JD MAY not be the greatest coach in the world, but I'm not ready to take a chance at getting somebody worse.

Yeah, we don't want to take a chance and maybe get someone better! We are a division 1 team, and I don't expect to win every game, but I will not accept the fact that we are expected to lose games like this. If that is what we expect, that is what we will get! My point is that JD is given credit for many good things that are not materializing. I'm just pointing out that we shouldn't give credit where credit is not due.

Excellent, excellent, excellent post. As bad as I want JD and the team to succeed, there are those on this board that would rather be right than to win.

Is it time for JD to be held accountable? What has happened with these great recruiting classes he has had?The Zips are nothing more than a middle of the road team that can't compete on the next level
Accountable for what?We played one conference game so far this season! What crawled into your panties? Do you need JD to march the team into the RCA dome and run up the score on the NFL colts to be happy?

Accountable for these recruiting classes! For 3 years now, we have been told what a great class he has recruited. And for 2 years guys have been saying, "Wait for his recruits to get going!" Where are they? I'll answer that for you. Someplace else! Many were not intelligent enough to get in to school, or too lazy to keep at it when they did get in. Look at the list of scholar athletes honored at the Patriot Bowl for a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Only 13! I heard the team GPA was about a 1.5. Take away these 13, and how low would we be? Time to stop recruiting dummies!

not to defend jd but the team is about where i thought they would be.anytime you rebuild on offensive line and new qb that usually means trouble in the first few games.that said there are plenty of winnable games against the rest of the mac,and we need to win them.no excuses about the level of teams we play from here on out.wmu and cmu are not near the teams they were last year either out of divison
