Tonight or 1992 last second victory against Toledo? What happened in '92? I missed that one?I was thinking of Big Ben's hail Mary. All this one was missing was a tuba player! ZippyRulz
The Toledo game was Alcorn's 60-yd FG as time expired. Knowing his talent then, and our struggles in the 2nd half this year, I would say this was the more improbable finish. Going by the wildness of French's calls in both games you would have to say it's a toss-up. Stams was beside himself too
skip-zip
I ran out on the field at the Rubber Bowl the night Alcorn kicked that game-winning field goal. That was our first home game as a MAC member, and the Bowl was packed. Exciting night. This one ranks higher only because it was much more improbable. And don't forget the Marshall game in 2004. It was a similar scenario, down 14 in the fourth quarter. Then after we tied the game, the Marshall punter dropped the snap on their next possession, and we kicked the winning field goal from that spot. The only difference between this game and that one is that we still could have gone into overtime tied. The similarities between this game and the Marshall game is that everyone REALLY thought the game was OVER. The one difference between this game and the Marshall game is that it was on ESPN, so everyone got to see it.
UAZips
The Marshall win in 2004 was the best for me. Frye's insane touchdown pass to tie it up, the defensive 3 and out, the punter's fumbled snap, and then the field goal as time expired. Perfect way to send Marshall out of the MAC
zipboy
Last nights win to me was bigger than the Toledo win in 92. I was a student back then and at the game. To me, the MACC is still the biggest but this ranks up there with the Marshall win and the Toledo win. Man does it feel good to be on this side of it today. Great call by French and Stamms. How about an link to the call on gozips.com? I can make it my new ringtone
zipboy
This would be a good topic for a poll:2007 Akron 39-38 WMU2006 Akron 20-17 NC State (Surprised nobody mentioned that one)2005 Akron 31-30 NIU (MACC)2004 Akron 31-28 Marshall1992 Akron 23-20 ToledoAnd there are others I'm sureI erased 2006 from my memory. Good one though, that was a big win.
