GoZips
Forget the silly RPI and equally silly SOS. UIC is eight and four with quality wins over the likes of Bradley. They will give the Zips a taste of upper echelon MAC type play. This is a do not miss game as the young Zips head into conference play. Saturday night, date night, if she wont go, dump her or you may end up with a lifetime of nagging and regrets.Let's get all you AK-Howdies out. Yes, I wrote "howdies". Until you sips prove other wise, you are just "howdies" to me. Fifteen to twenty Howdiesat the YSU game. For shame.Yep, I'm a prick. I tell it like it is. Be there. Throw rocks at me if you dare. I'm old and slow. Not to mention phat. Go for it. Razz me. But, youcan't if you aren't in attendance. Wussies.

eguins
You played against arguably the worst Horizon League team, now you will play against the 3rd best Horizon League team in my book. UIC is a very talented team with a very talented Guard by the name of Josh Mayo. He is probably one of the Top 5 players in all of the Horizon league, with the likes of AJ Graves and Mike Green of Butler.UIC will get a lot of players into the game and many of those players will score. UIC is no slouch here, and this should be a great matchup at the JAR.GOOD LUCK!
ZachTheZip
I am an AK-Rowdy. I have gone to every men's home game this year. Attendance is bad, yes. This is the holiday and many students are off campus, but that's not much of an excuse when most of them still live in NE Ohio. We send out Facebook messages and emails for every home game, but that's apparently not enough. Last year we had a series of MANDATORY meetings with feedback from the members, and afterwards the group really improved. One thing that needs to be stressed is that the Rowdies are an official student organization, and if you don't contribute you can be removed. This needs to happen. They will shape up if the leaders show that they are serious. I know they have a lot of stuff on their hands already, but this is something that needs to be addressed before the extremely important Miami game. ziptrumpet87
Zips are 9 pt favs. Hope the team had a good practice after their Christmas break and comes out with some fire to avenge last year's loss.My guess: Zips win 80-66. skip-zip
The Sagarin shows us at #100, and UIC at #106, so it should be a pretty good matchup. Speaking of SOS, and some past threads about why you should, or should not, go a little bit out of your way to play high ranked teams. Here's some data to absorb.....Miami is only 6-5, yet they have a #44 computer rating due to their #8 strength of schedule. So, it does pay to play some bigger programs, even if you do lose a few more games. In fact, Miami has clearly put themselves in a position for at-large consideration with this strategy. However, Akron (9-2 record), even though they have won 3 more games than Miami, probably has no way to put themselves in this position with a #324 strength of schedule. ZachTheZip
Skip-Zip, the rankings don't determine whether you get in, people do. If they look at Miami, all they'll see is their record. If they look at us, all they'll see is our SOS. The only way in is to play Miami's schedule, and win all those games. We're not there yet. Very few teams are. Until then, Dambrot needs to keep recruiting excellent players and trying to figure out a way to get teams to play us at the JAR.

skip-zip
uakronkid...I have 30 years of experience with this basketball program. If we keep doing what we've always done, we'll keep getting what we've always gotten. You won't get at large consideration with our current strategy of scheduling. Plain and simple. Zipsrifle
OK, I don't go to many BB games, but I go to at least one a season and tonight was the night. Unlike the past few years, at least this game has some excitement in it because it was close. Here are my non-basketball fan thoughts. I hope this was a bad night, because IMO, we didn't look very good. We did not seem as disciplined as in the past. A lot of bad/forced shots and less D than what I remember. I would have liked to see a better presence underneath. Seems to me that Wood could really dominate, but didn't quite show it, outside of a few minutes in the 2nd. Don't get me wrong, he was a great tonight, definately the leader on the floor, letting others know when they screwed up, but I just think he could REALLY dominate games. Quade needs to hit the gym, he had two bad attempts at a strong shot underneath and I think he tried a 3???. Great dunker though! Nate is IMO, the best player on the floor. Great shot, good head, and great actor (I think he got 2 charges called tonight). Last year's game, he seemed pretty timid (I think he was banged up from the previous game), but tonight, he was aggressive in his play. It took Nick quite a while to get going, but had a prayer go in late, and carried the team to victory. Cedric, oddly, was not a big factor tonight. Seems to me he was always good for quite a few points and some excitement. I was very impressed with McNees tonight. The guy can shoot and plays a little out of control, he's a great addition that with time, will mature. As a team, seemed that we did not take smart shots and that almost always resulted in a turnover. We do not have a good transition game. IMO, this would have been an easier win if we would have pulled up and set up a few plays instead of trying to take it quick to the hole. Even though we were in the lead, we seemed way to eagar to quickly answer when UIC started a run. Since we typically didn't take a good shot, this only gave momentum to their run. Also, seemed to me that we forced a lot of shots. I would have liked to see more feeds underneath to Wood and more passes for open shots....maybe that isn't this teams style. Also, where was the D? Late in the game it came out, but I seem to remember a suffocating D the entire game? We were kinda lax early on. Anyway, entertaining game and I'm definately going to make the Can't game and maybe Miami later this week. Everyone complains about attendance, well, I've got to do my part to help increase those numbers.
Zipsrifle
Oh, one more thing....what's with the rebounding????? they had 4 guys under the basket EVERY SHOT. Need to work on THAT!
ZachTheZip
Zipsrifle, We did seem to have an off night, the shooting was at around 32% for the first half. Wood can dominate, but the other team's 7-footer limited his effectiveness a bit. A lot of the team's problems stems from a lack of a floor general like Dru being out there. Hopefully Daryl Roberts can evolve into one soon.Speaking about attendance, Bring EVERYBODY that everyone can to the Miami game, whether they follow the Zips or not. This needs to be a sellout, and it needs to have a level of intensity that the JAR has only glimpses of this year.
