Main St apt construction

Maybe they are saving the other side of the street for the new basketball arena. It could take up nearly the whole area between the parking deck and exchange street. We can only wish. If they did it -- it woudl certainly extend the Univeristy down into the city further. Finish it off by purchasing the Mayflower and knocking it down for student housing and it all looks really impressive. There is then a couple thousand people living downtown that need shopping. The ability to revitalize the downtown by filling it with student housing could be impressive.

One of those buildings was for sale recently - on eBay! Sounded like he ran out of money to fix it up (looks like it too; the front facia brick has all been removed).

4 giant steps that must be taken to make both the University Park District and the Downtown District more pedestrian friendly:1) Move the Metro Bus transfer station AWAY from the downtown Superblock! Fortunately this giant step is already in the planning stages.2) Drop a bomb on the plasma donation center! NO... I repeat, NO competent and responsible parent would want their son or daughter walking the campus streets w/ people hanging around such as the plasma donation center attracts. Drop that bomb tomorrow! 3) Clear out the Mayflower! It's colorful cast of characters have the very same effect as the plasma donation center loiters. Move them faaaaar away from the city center. 4) The safety of UA students should be the APD's #1 priority! UA is the single most important entitiy to the future identity of this city. For the future of this city, Summit County, and the surrounding areas - from Hudson to Canton, from Can't to Medina - The U and U-Park must have stellar images! If anyone thinks that moving the vagrants far, far away is less-than-politically-correct, well, they're probably right. These steps, however, are "Hello McFly," real world moves. This isn't a communist nation. These are common sense, very real-world steps that absolutely must be taken if we want the University Park District and Downtown District to flourish.

Problem is, where? NIMBY is what you'll hear if you do try. There's development going on in all areas around downtown (N & S Main, Northside, Summa's City Hosp campus, Spicer Village, etc.). The other problem is that those people require services that are downtown (shelters, meals, medical care, aid agencies, etc.) so moving them away would cause problems there too. Unfortunately some of those people will never be able to make it due to mental illness, substance addiction, etc., but there are those who could be helped up out of it and we need to find a way to help them. *steps off soapbox*

build a freakin commune in the sticks north of Wadsworth and make them help with horticulture and crap. Mental illness or not, they have the survival skills not to die as vagrants, then they must have enough wits to push a garden hoe.
