State in the OVC championship game.Illinois-Chicago will play #12 Butler in the Horizon League semi-finals at 7:00 on ESPNU.
ZachTheZip
Temple and Austin Peay have won. That makes two tournament-bound teams we've played. More hopefully to come.
Big Zip
Temple's win secured the No. 2 seed in the A-10 tournament -- does that guarantee you a ticket to the dance now?Austin Peay is dancing -- does it make you wonder if we'd be better off dominating a conference like the OVC than being in the MAC? With the amount of teams that go bowling in football in today's environment you might be better off independent. You could schedule a respectable schedule that 8 wins virtually guarantees you a bowl. I'm guessing this team would have been to the tournament three times playing in the OVC or some other tournament like that. Look at Butler -- they dominate the Horizon and get national recognition. It is possible.
skip-zip
BigZip..we tend to think alike on a number of different things. You must be one of the old timers too.I guess you always want to be in a stronger conference because it usually elevates your visibility, and your recruiting, and putdyou closer to a national stage. But, since getting to the tournament is the ultimate goal, maybe choosing the easiest path (i.e. an easier conference) is a thought. But at the same time, we probably wouldn't have the talent we have now either. I love your point about football. Unlike basketball, if you are a D-1 school, and win more than you lose, you are probably going to a bowl game. Who you play doesn't seem to have much bearing on that. Unless, of course, you want to continue to get into better and better bowl games. But as a short term solution to getting to bowl games, your theory works. MDZip
Portland State is also the #1 seed in the Big Sky conference.
w00t
Temple's win secured the No. 2 seed in the A-10 tournament -- does that guarantee you a ticket to the dance now?I think he was actually referring to Austin Peay and Winthrop (from the first post). Big Zip
We actually beat Austin Peay -- Winthrop dropped us.The funny thing about all of this is if we beat Winthrop and if VCU and Portland State get tickets to the dance we'll have four teams in the tournament on our schedule. The bad news is we are 1-3 against them.
