ZachTheZip Posted July 21, 2008 Report Posted July 21, 2008 Story. There seems to be no limit to LeBron's generosity towards his home town. He's now tricking out the Akron Police with 10 LeBron-themed Cannondale bikes. Quote
Blue & Gold Posted July 21, 2008 Report Posted July 21, 2008 He is so the man. What did we, the good citizens of this city, do to have the good fortune of having the greatest basketball player on the planet also be the most generous homeboy one could possibly imagine? Quote
Zipsrifle Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 Agreed. When everyone else seems to bash this place a the first opportunity, and he does everything in his power to help it out. Quote
Zips Win! Posted July 24, 2008 Report Posted July 24, 2008 He is so the man. What did we, the good citizens of this city, do to have the good fortune of having the greatest basketball player on the planet also be the most generous homeboy one could possibly imagine?I disagree. Please explain what he's given UA or it's athletic programs. Has he donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to the hoops program that I am unaware of? If he did, then I tip my cap and will say thanks. But I am not aware of this.Do I like that his camps are on UA's campus? Of course I do. But has this enticed even one recruit to sign with us? Not that I am aware of....Let's hope that changes..Is the Nike deal a blockbuster? We will see. Once the deal is signed, if I see LBJ on tv with a Zips hat on, then maybe I will concur. But until then, we can all wishfully think that he's a Zips supporter. That is, until mid-November when I see his ugly mug on the tv intoducing the idiots in c-bus. War Carson Palmer and go Zips. Quote

War Carson Palmer and go Zips.Well for one, he's giving UA's men's basketball team all new gear completely free of charge. He attends games when he can, and every time he does something like this, we get a mention in the national press. It may not have inspired any recruits to sign so far, but we really haven't had the chance to see all the benefits just yet. It gives us an air of legitimacy in our own region, which happens to view us in a worse light than the rest of the country does. It's hard to get your name attached to one of the most famous people in the world, and the fact that he appears to be a philanthropist and not a thug like so many others in his profession just makes it better.
