  1. What is really sad is that the OSU game was broadcast on ESPN AND Channel 5 (ABC). When I turned on ESPN to check scores, I also checked to see what other games were on (around 4:30-5 PM). Channel 5 on the menu screen listed the Michigan game. Since they have the right to broadcast in our area, the OSU game was on TWO channels. So the decision to cut away from the UA game was strictly for $$$. If anyone began watching on ESPN, why would they turn back to Channel 5?But since ESPN and ABC sports are in bed together, why would they allow duplicate broadcasts? THis is the same guy (he covers OSU for the Weakcom Journal) who, on Friday September 7 (before the UA/OSU game) wrote:5) Will the freshman class continue to step up?   4. From what I have seen, they have misunderstood everything about marketing. It has been a very humerous week of advertisements in the Beacon Journal. Wednesday they ran the ad for kids get in free for jersey night. Thursday that adjusted the ad with a disclaimer that says if "seats are available" and today they ran the same ad as Wednesday. The humor comes from Thursday. The ad states the start of the Women's game is at 7 PM (on page three). On page six there is short article of the time change for the Women's game to 6:30 PM. Of course the ad in today's paper still has game time for the women at 7 PM.Is anyone else tired of the current adminstrations hiring of individuals who are "cutting their teeth" at our expense? Pick up a Basketball media guide and check out who these people are and what experience they have, it is appalling.
  5. I had the opportunity to spend some time with Coach Dambrot this morning. He was really jazzed about the crowd at the Can't State game. He wanted me to thank everyone at Zipsnation and the AK-Rowdies for their support and attendance at the game.Coach Dambrot is a first class individual. He is an Akron graduate and loves this town. I think the best way we can reward him and the team is to rally around this team and personally invite anyone and everyone we know to attend the rest of the games.I heard that some students were turned away by the fire marshall well after the game had started. The message is: get there early and start heckling the opposing team during warm-ups! You all rocked the arena Wednesday night! Lets do it again Sunday!

Look at the promotions they have done since arriving.1) Discounted tickets if you wear your jersey - UA vs. Indiana (Soccer)The crowd was already expected over 3,000, lost revenue.2) $1.00 night for women's basketball (and stay for the men's game)Most people would have paid the full price for a women's ticket to stay for the men.3) Coupon day for the Women's Can't State game (my contacts at Can't State got a kick out of that one, they all came free).You do the math on how much money this brought in.Those are the ones I know about...There has not been any group sales at any full ticket price for any event out of the marketing department. Everything has been a give-a-way.They have contacted schools to sell tickets. I caught wind of a promotion for football where they had three schools lined up to sell tickets. The winning school received $1,000.00 from the Marketing department. Oh, the winning school sold 16 tickets at $5.00/ticket.How much money did that bring in?
  8. In case you have not received the call, HNTB has hired a Marketing firm to solicit feedback for the design of the stadium. I received that call a couple of days ago. They went through price-points for every facet of the stadium. Here was the breakdown. They gave me price points on every level except the regular seats, which seem to be firm.Reserved between the 40's - $500 donation plus ticket priceReserved between 20-40 - $300 donation plus ticket priceReserved between goal and 20 - $100 donation plus ticket priceNext was a club section, commitment of 3-5-10 years. Access to Club level restaurant/drink services. This would be on the sideline, top of lower seating bowl.Three price points, which they asked which I would be interested in.$1000/seat$750/seat$500/seat(This includes parking and ticket)Next was indoor club seating, commitment of 3-5-10 years. Access to Club level restaurant/drink services.$2500/seat$2000/seat$1500/seat(This includes parking and ticket)Next was outdoor Loge seats (described as opera box seating). Seats 4-8 people. 3-5-10 year commitment with outdoor TV access and drink rail. They asked me if I wanted to share the loge.$7500 for the Loge$5000 for the Loge$2500 for the Loge(Includes tickets and parking)Next was a private suite. This has a private entrance, restroom access for this level only, access to the private club, suite food and drink service, TV access. 3-5-10 commitment.Seats 12, 16 or 24.$25,000$20,000$15,000(Tickets and parking)They asked if I wanted an indoor or outdoor Suite. I had to wait until the end of the survey to tell them that I preferred an indoor/outdoor suite.At the lower of every price point I told them I was interested. The fallacy of the entire survey was that they never asked if I was willing to commit today. Of course I was interested in every level, as you math majors do the number crunching, you will find better deals in the outdoor loge with a group going in than in the regular seats between the forties.If they asked if I would commit today, it would be a different story. If everyone answers like I did, we may have a stadium full of suites, loges and only 1,000 seats for eveyone else!OH, general admission tickets were never discussed. I cannot determine if it would be a bowl or not.I hope you get the call!

Well, it has not happened and when you keep up the comparison of other schools it never will. Thanks for biting on that Captain. Which brings us full circle with this discussion. Sales and Marketing. Question: Do we have a marketable product? If so, who is out selling it?If you can answer that question it might solve the mystery of season ticket sales and game attendance.
  10. It really does not matter who you play. If people really cared, they would be at the games. UA Basketball has a good record over the past two years and Coach Dambrot does not lose at home. People in the basketball community know that and refuse to play here. The issue is butts in seats. Until we can sell out, this discussion will continue. GP1 is correct, we need sales and marketing.Niagara 0-3 had 1183 for the Akron game, Akron managed 2195 for Winston Salem State and we are 6-1.Winning does help sell tickets, but how many games in how many seasons do we have to win before people begin to come to games?
  11. I think what ZFF is trying to point out is exactly what you are saying skip-zip. If you look at the bio's of the personnel in the marketing department, they all are rookies. Hiring infocision and ISP to do all the work while the marketing department does what? Not only are the newspaper ads lacking in substance, they continue to be laden with many mistakes (last week stated that Akron was on a 19 game winning streak, not HOME winning streak).Skip-zip mentions a campaign, what campaign? Fear the Roo came and went last year during the bowl hype. To try and use the same thing again this year was a lack of vision and effort. Coach Dambrot deserves more than this. He is screaming for fans to come to the games, but there that message is not getting to the masses.I vote for you to come and lend a hand...
  12. I received a letter about football alumni weekend and was wondering how many former players are attending. I will be there to support our current players and staff. Sounds like we are finally getting a chance to be a part of the program. JD and his staff are rolling out the red carpet for us! We are making it a family weekend, are you? I would like to know who will be there. If you can't make the game, at least come Friday night, I heard it is for Football Alumni Only! Hey, great room rates also!LETS GET BEHIND OUR TEAM!
