2012 Recruiting

Recommended Posts

The Zips already have some offers out there for 2012 recruits. Hopefully they've been preparing for this recruiting class from the beginning. Recruiting is about building relationships with the players, their families, and the high school coaches. The staff only had one year to do that for 2011's class which might have hampered their ability to bring in talent, but if they're smart they've been working on this class from the beginning.

iCoach will beyond the shadow of a doubt prove himself a recruiting genius if he lands Eddie Goldman.

Eddie Goldman sounds Jewish, but his profile pic would lead me to believe otherwise.

Barring something unforseen, Goldman will end up one of the top 20 national prospects of the class of 2012. He has something like 50 offers by this point and they're from the top teams in the country. If Ianello thinks he has a legitimate shot to land Goldman, he's either delusional or he has yet to reveal his true recruiting abilities to us (even though we could have used them in the 2011 class).

Well it depends upon your perspective. If you are an Orthodox Jew you may question his religious values as Eddie is a Reformed Jew, but just about all Reformed Jews would agree that he is Jewish. Hence the motivation for his claim that he will never play for BYU.

You are profiling, and that is illegal.

If he is circumcised he is Jewish.

That being said, he will come to Akron when KOSHER PIGS fly.

And Akron is not even listed on that site.

But absent the usual misdemeanor arrest he will have his choice of the top schools in the US

New offer - ATH Deaysean Rippy

I wonder about Ianello's recruiting tactics. What's his angle? Recruit all the top prospects in the country who all have 20 BCS offers? Does he really think he can land these players? We saw last year that he started out offering a bunch of 4-star players offered by top BCS teams, and when he couldn't land any he moved on to offering players who had low-level BCS offers, and when he couldn't land any he moved on to offering players with MAC offers, and finally broke down and signed a class made up of players who had no offer but Akron.

He's starting off the same way this year.

You noticed the same trend I observed. :(

You are right...he should offer the nobody's first.

Thanks for keeping tabs on recruiting, Zach.

Both RB LaKeith Walls & OLB K.e.n.t. Kern look like very intriguing prospects, who haven't been offered by every Top 20 team in the nation - exactly the sort of player iCoach should be looking at.

Walls, a RB @ 6'4" & 200 lbs. reminds me of former Zips recruit & Massillon product Christian Morgan. Morgan was listed @ 6'4" & 215. Walls will most likely add @ least 10 pounds to his frame between his junior & senior seasons. (I know, I know, Morgan never amounted to much. None-the-less, he was truly a physical specimen.)

How much taller will he be? Do you have any projections for height and weight gains between his high school senior year and college freshman year yet?

:P Most high school boys do. Especially if they spend time in the weight room.
