  1. A hypothetical major corporation hires a hypothetical executive who lacks traditional credentials for the business he's joining but is believed to have equivalent merit. He's given increasing responsibilities and proves that he can perform as well or better than traditional executives in that business. Within two years he's risen to the level of one of the top three senior executives at the corporation. The CEO announces his retirement and the hypothetical senior executive becomes a candidate for the position. Do you primarily base your evaluation on his original credentials or on his performance to date at the corporation?

  2. I agree he is going to be the next President because our Board of Trustees took such a lazy approach. We might in fact have a Board of Trustees problem. I'm not going to root for him or against him. I don't root for or against my employees. I expect him to do his job well in the areas that really matter at a university: advancing research and teaching the results of the relevant research of the day. Tressel isn't just an employee of UofA, he is an employee of the State of Ohio. Most of you, I would assume, pay taxes in Ohio in one form or another. That means he is your employee as well. For those who plan on rooting for him, my question is, For how long? What if the guy is a complete disaster? Can we be critical of that or do we have to continue to root for him like the children in the Encouraging Department? I will say this. When this charade is over the Tressel is the President, I will wish him luck. Most people who take job in which they are unqualified for frequently need a lot of luck to succeed, so we should all wish him good luck. He'll need it.

  3. First of all, Nobody is arguing about predictions about whether he will or will not get the job. That's completely out of our hands. Secondly, I think it's a horrible decision, it's bad for Akron, and it's an embarrassment. Why would I root for that?

  4. Closer to home, does anyone remember the area around Canal Park before Canal Park was there? Were there ANY businesses in the area besides adult theaters and boarded up hotels where homeless stayed and "business" was conducted? Now look at it.

  5. That's ANOTHER good one. Why do people drive across town to a gas station where the price is cheaper, when they will just waste most of that savings on the trip over there anyway. Or, why do people save up their Giant Eagle points to earn 10 cents off per gallon, which might save them a dollar or so, about once every month. Say what you want, or think what you want, but that's what people do.

  6. Sure voters care about tax increases, but when they hear the Zips are a lock for the ACC with a new arena, this passing is as guaranteed as a Zeke Marshall blocked shot at the rim.

  7. Not sure why you feel the need to attack me and other posters for the quality of our postings. You pointed out that a walk-on hasn't made a contribution in the KD-era. I pointed out that Roberts was technically a walk-on (if you want to get into a debate about whether he was truly a walk-on or not that is a different issue) who made significant contributions in the KD-era. It is called point, counterpoint, and you should give it a try some time instead of taking unnecessary pot-shots at the credibility and value of other posters.

  8. Everyone time I read this stupid statement I cringe. The area of Cleveland where Quicken Loans and Progressive Field are was desolate and nothing was there with the exception of an Army Navy Surplus store. Do you remember what Prospect used to be known for....hookers in Cleveland. The area is now a full blown entertainment district with world renown restaurants. This argument has to stop...however they are using the statistics is obviously bullshit. Then let's talk about the actual tax dollars...the penny for every beer or wine ordered that goes to pay for it. Those taxes aren't breaking anyone. Those new stadiums spurred the growth of DT Cleveland to a point where they are now struggling to keep up with DT housing needs. DT Cleveland boasts a 95%+ occupancy rate for apartments with more coming online all the time. I think the tax structure outlined as part of this argument is all wrong. I'd love to see a so called "sin tax" to pay for this too.

  9. I voted for Bortles because I like guys who don't go to the BCS schools and have the world handed to them. It toughens the mind and body. He is also very talented in every way that matters....and he has a really hot girlfriend. Imagine the tail he can pull when he has millions and graduates from that busted Daytona stripper he has been seeing. The other two are very talented in their own way. Manziel is like a Wilson (Seattle) without the challenges of succeeding at two separate colleges and the experience of professional baseball. I like to watch him, but I'd stay away if I was an NFL team. I don't think the fundamentals are there. Bridgewater is also very talented and well coached. Destroyed some bad teams and periodically struggled against good team. Great fundamentals.
