  1. I am not sure what in all your post can be used against the guy. Going downtown to reach out to the community, talk about UA's contribution to the park, or promoting our athletic success. I think that these are all great things for a president to do. The clueless ones, in my book, are those who booed.

  2. It is likely many of the afore-mentioned will be watching the webstream of the Zips' match. But none will attend the match. Not even Ben Zemanski, who has no chance of playing in the MLS final, will attend. These men have a job to do. Part of that job is focusing on their business at hand. That concentration begins the day before the actual match, probably even earlier than that. There are other Zips in the pros out there. It would not be surprising to see one of them in attendance. Evan Bush? Saad Abdul-Salaam? Eric Stevenson? Scotty Caldwell, if you show up, I will buy your ticket! Seriously.

  3. I don't see those guys coming to Akron the night prior to MLS Cup. They're all professional unlike a certain QB of a local poorly managed American Football franchise.

  5. It is my dream MLS Cup matchup and it is only 1.5 hours from home. I will go to Columbus wearing my Zips #6 jersey (Darlington Nagbe era) honoring two great Zips' #6's ... Darlington Nagbe & Wil Trapp. I will tailgate with the Trapps, and then I will watch and cherish every second of seeing the former Zips greats on the field and on the sideline. In the end, I will be happy for the winner and sad for the loser, but it will be an AWESOME day to be a Zips Mens Soccer fan! Go Zips!

  6. I'd take Akron in Detroit against NC State in a heartbeat. My eyes cross watching football on blue (or gray) turf and Sun Belt teams don't do anything for me (no offense South Alabama). Detroit is also an easy drive for local Zip fans.

  7. Wagon Wheel just got a mention in ESPN's "Flipping the field" column by Ryan McGee. Came in at Number 4 under the Rivalry Weekend Trophy Power Rankings: 4. Wagon Wheel -- Can't State vs. Akron: Legend has it that as John Buchtel was searching for the land on which to found the school that would become the University of Akron, his wagon got bogged down in the mud and a wheel broke off. He moved on, but the spot where the spokes stuck is where Can't State now sits. The Zips rolled (get it?) over the Golden Flashes on Friday.

  8. I'm hoping for a long shot with the Boca Raton Bowl. I live about 20 minutes from there. I'm expecting the Bahamas unfortunately. It's doable as far as transportation. There's a ferry from Fort Lauderdale (about 40 minutes away), but I don't have a passport. What a stupid place for a bowl game!

  10. From a poster at the bigsoccer forum: Akron 2 - 1 final. The 2nd half was an absolute clinic by Akron. Could of been 4 or 5. Only great goalkeeping and the crossbar got in the way of a similar score to the Rutgers game. This team is very dangerous and one that can be lifting the trophy in 2 weeks. It's amazing how well a team plays when they get the proper seed by the NCAA committee #respect

  11. Congrats to Terry and the football team...wasn't a pretty season but definitely is progress. And, not to beat a dead horse, but Scarphoon's henny penny ski-is-falling approach to budgeting leads to these type of observations from Elton ostensibly in an article about sports: "Yet even that is a dubious honor right now as the cash-strapped university will now have to find the funds to get coach Terry Bowden's crew to a December bowl game." Our new tagline isn't "Ohio's Polytechnic"; it's "The Cash-Strapped University".

  12. Exactly. This is why it surprised me a little when TB made the early statement that the players would have as much say in where they end up as anyone. At some point, financial considerations have to come into play. The Bahamas Bowl, while perhaps the best reward for the team's hard work, seems likely be to be a losing endeavor for UA in terms of cash. At the other end of the spectrum, IMHO, is the Quick Lane Bowl. The last time the Zips went to Ford Field for a game they brought along at least 15,000 fans. Since it's been 10 years since that happened, I believe another strong contingent would follow along once again in 2015. One would think this might weigh in on both the people selecting teams for the 2015 Quick Lane Bowl and UA's ultimate decision (if it's in their hands).

  13. Beating Pitt, NC State and Syracuse got some attention. Beating Can't State to qualify for a low level bowl game doesn't. I had my house full of family yesterday for a belated Thanksgiving feast. Most of them are Suckeye Honks. They had no idea about Akron's accomplishment. But, I conveniently placed my Charlie Frye Bobble Head and the Sports Page of the Beacon on the coffee table where everyone could see it as they entered 2005 was a little different. The bowl bid was accompanied by a conference championship. Cincinnati matchup might be the best scenario for us. Ohio football fans would at least be watching the game with some interest, and that exposes Akron to potential future players and fans.

And maybe set up a future home in home series ........ It's not the Bahamas, but anyone think this could Be more advantageous long term to the program ?? Obviously with a win ......... Just a question
