  1. Unfortunately, basketball isn’t what’s leading the change, it’s football as that’s the highest revenue sport at most Power 5 schools. SEC is positioning themselves as the power players. If OSU and Michigan end up joining, they’d probably drop the SEC moniker and call it something else. Money is driving all things and it seems like the SEC is just waiting for the NCAA to try and drop some type of hammer on one of their “prestigious” football programs before they buck up and make a power move. NCAA seems to have no idea how to control the NIL activity as it is.
  2. We’ve definitely picked up some good ones early. No doubt they’ll continue to receive attention and land more offers throughout the year. Our commits could always shut it down and tell everyone else they aren’t interested, but why would they do that? Especially in today’s world of NIL. Commit early and reserve your spot. Then you have options available as they come along. We may not like it, but can’t fault the players for doing what’s in their best interest. So far, it doesn’t seem as if we’ve lost anyone.
  3. Sad, but true. I don’t have a link, but the same insiders who reported that Oklahoma and Texas were joining the SEC before the initial news came out also said there were conversations between the SEC with Michigan and Ohio State. Nothing has come of it as of yet, but the landscape is most certainly changing.
  4. Draylen Ellis from Austin Peay State just announced an offer, so that may be our FCS QB?
  5. Any chance it’s St. Francis starting QB? JoeMo is going to make sure we get a Win in week 1. I joke, but I am genuinely curious to see who we land. It seems the viable quarterback options in the portal are limited in comparison to other positions.
  6. Bump for post spring update
  7. Yes, he’s in the portal again. I’m not sure if he would need to sit a year, but I think he may be a grad. transfer as he’s already been in college for 4 years. If so, he’d be immediately eligible and should have 2 more years to play (due to COVID year). He’s listed as a RS Jr.
  8. We offered Matthew Scicchitano - 2023 DL/TE https://www.hudl.com/video/3/10179565/619aa23a066bbd059497df1e
  9. Rivals shows him as having received an offer, but 247 does not. Just checked our go to source of Twitter and it looks like he continues to retweet positive Zips info, so I don’t know. Guess we’ll have to wait and see.
  10. I think Anthony Stallworth would make it 85, but like Davis he didn’t enroll early. If I understand correctly, players have until June 1st to enter the portal as opposed to May 1st if there was a head coaching change. So we’re likely to see some more activity, especially with our need at QB.
  11. Added a few more LBs and QBs that could be a good fit.
  12. I joke, but it is a position of need. Our current kicker did a nice job at the SG, but who knows what we have behind him.
  13. My best guess is the current incoming commitments will be on scholarship, as we were below the 85 limit. But I could be wrong as we don’t have an inside source. I imagine some of the future incoming players will be PWO.
  14. What I suspect is happening is that JoeMo is clearing out walk-ons that he does not believe will contribute and in turn will bring in higher caliber walk-ons. There are hundreds of players in the portal that will not find scholarships this year. So, there’s a good chance we land some quality players as walk-ons that were formerly on scholarship elsewhere. I’ve seen it happen at several Power 5 schools where players are transferring in on preferred walk-on status with the chance of earning a scholarship somewhere down the line.
  15. Here are some players missing from the most recent roster update. We haven’t seen their names in the portal - yet - but I assume they will not be returning. QB: Calvin Cloud WR: Alec LeSpina TE: Nate Amato OL: Canaan Sheets DL: David Hooks LB: Kyle Bischof Myles Carter Yveny Petithomme DB: Quentin Woodall Nasari Jackson
  16. LB Nick Mayle in the portal. Thats 4 LBs since the SG.
  17. https://www.news-press.com/story/sports/college/fgcu/2015/10/16/college-sports-scholarships-not-four-year-guarantees/74009542/ I could very well be wrong. I got out of coaching in 2016 so this is new to me. Looks like a handful of schools outside of the Big 10 have done the same thing. Interesting….
  18. Yes, thank you. We are saying the same thing in regards to scholarship offers.
  19. Are you saying most schools don’t offer scholarships year by year? I can assure you that’s how it works. They then are renewed on a yearly basis. My confusion was towards the 4 year offering. As that’s something I hadn’t heard of before.
  20. That part makes sense. You see scholarships continue to be honored due to a variety of reasons as long as the player is still at the school. Where I did not understand is if it was a 4 year scholly even when transferring. That did not make sense. So with these scholarship players transferring out, it doesn’t matter what the amount of year guarantee may or may not be, as they will no longer be at the school.
  21. That’s how most schools do it. Which is why I was surprised to hear UA offered 4 year terms. I can’t see much advantage to that setup if that’s truly the case.
  22. What you are saying is different than what @Akron1 said. So there is definitely a misinterpretation of information somewhere.
  23. That would make sense as that’s what most schools would do. I’m trying to wrap my head around how a scholarship is upheld for 4 years if the player has transferred to another school. In this case, how would Akron be held responsible for a 4 year commitment when the player has moved on and potentially on scholarship elsewhere. It makes sense if the kid was still attending the school and no longer on the team. But in this case all the players we’ve heard about have entered the transfer portal and and intend to move on to other schools, so I’m struggling to understand how the 4 year offer still applies.
