  1. Well, at least I think we can all agree that tonight's attendance was pathetic. I know I'm merely preaching to the choir on this message board, but attendance of a whopping 2,716 at a school of roughly 30,000 students, for a premiere mid major match up like this? You've got to be kidding me. The student body's support of this team is a freaking joke.

Give UA 'fans' one reason not to show...game on STO, expect a small crowd.

Give them a second reason...game scheduled an evening before a holiday..expect a pathetic crowd.

Yes, the student body support is a joke. However, the alumni support is even worse.

How many of the 2,716 will be back after losing yesterday?

  2. I've never really cared about Ohio State one way or or the other but the statement from their president Ohio St. prez disregards TCU, Boise St really ticks me off. Direct quote - "Well, I don't know enough about the Xs and Os of college football," said Gee, formerly the president at West Virginia, Colorado, Brown and Vanderbilt universities. "I do know, having been both a Southeastern Conference president and a Big Ten president, that it's like murderer's row every week for these schools. We do not play the Little Sisters of the Poor. We play very fine schools on any given day." God, what an elitist a-hole. If you're not one of the BCS Universities, apparently you wil never be worthy. Ask him about the long and glorious history of USF. No one doubts those schools play somewhat tough schedules, but the opportunity isn't there for schools in others leagues. Well, I guess they could schedule Oklahoma, USC, Ohio State and Florida and hope they are all good that year and beat all of them. Morons like him are whyI want to see the death of the BCS. Then prove it on the field, Gee-normous ego, with a playoff. Please Boise State, make the BCS championship and beat the crap out of whatever wonderful school they put you up against.

In MAC news, NIU is now #26 in the AP poll. Nice to see someone from the MAC getting some recognition.

Geez, Gordon, maybe you should look at your own schedule before you rip on someone else's.

It took 11 games into a 12 game season to crack the top 60. Nice job.. I don't know how Tress sleeps at night with such a daunting schedule.

  3. If you want to talk (or hear) about something other than what they're discussing, pick up the phone and ask a question...or make an observation. I've never, BTW, heard the show diss either UA or the MAC. That's kind of absurd to suggest. But what are we to make of a new head coach who won't even communicate with the fans thru the flagship media channels? Is he afraid someone might ask about his missing credentials for being hired?

I would love to call and have a two minute conversation about the Zips. Exactly what would I gain by asking two guys, one of which even admitted he hasn't been to a UA game when the show started, anything about the Zips. They don't know anything about UA athletics...

I am not looking for a 3-hour show 5-days a week dedicated to UA sports. I realize the sponsors and listeners would not support that...

I would appreciate 5 minutes a day dedicated to a review of the previous weeks games, a promotion of the upcoming games--i.e dates, starting times and location and a little effort to get a weekly guest from UA on the line wouldn't hurt. Heck, find a fan on this board and get him to call in weekly...but then the hosts would actually have to do a little UA homework or they would get embarrassed.

First suggestion- get on mapquest and find the directions to Infocision and the JAR...We can build on it from there...

  4. Rightly so, a caller to the Univ. of Akron FLAGSHIP station, 1350AM WARF (which, seriously, should change the "W" to a "B"....since that more accurately reflects listeners' thoughts about UA football), just asked the LOCAL call-in sportstalk show (3-6pm...prime drive time weekdays) why they have had flushes coach Doug Martin on multiple times, but we have never heard from Rob Ianello.

The hosts were leery about answering, but did offer that they have a good relationship with the UA Athletic Dept., but have been told that pursuing an interview (at any point this season!!) with the head football coach was "A DEAD END, we'll leave it at that."

I ask you, how idiotic is this schmuck? He alienates his players, colleagues and fans....and has the arrogance and audacity to believe he's "above" sharing any thoughts with the local flagship station?

Haven't we all heard and seen enough of this guy? He can't possibly be relieved of his duties too soon.

This may be true. But the hosts of the 3-6 pm drive show are a bunch of idiots so I put little stock in anything they say when it comes to UA.

The main host is a UA grad and all he talks about when it comes to college sports is guess who? Just what I like to see, another UA grad with a platform to promote the Zips...rooting for the buckeyes..

I had it on for 5 mintues today and all they could talk about was tosu basketball. Really? A show that was supposed to be dedicated to NE OHio sports and UA is another tosu talk show. Just what I've been waiting for....more luckeye talk.

The idiot (Ken) makes fun of UA and the MAC all the time so I wouldn't talk to him if I were iCoach either.

The best show 1350 airs at the 3-6pm time slot is when the national guys fill in...

I can't wait for the show to get canceled.

  5. Thanks for the inside info GoZips. Looking forward to watching this game tomorow on Fox Sports. Very encouraged by the news on Gilliam, Walsh, Treadwell and Harney. This team is already pretty talented and it is only going to get better in the coming years. Hopefully we can go down to Dayton and score the upset on the Flyers home floor. That would definitley be a big early season eye opener for the rest of the conference.

I heard it was to be joined in progress after the Cavs game... so maybe the second half..

  6. Saw a little of Humpty in the second half. Cocky as ever. And best of all ... still turns the ball over

at every opportunity. JMU, nice point guard you have there.

This may be true, but Humpty will ALWAYS have a special place in my heart as he is the one who hit arguably the biggest shot in the last 25 years of Zips basketball....Good Luck to Humpty-Hump.....My daughter misses you!!!

  7. No price change for tickets.

Stop slashing the price of reserve tickets throughout the season.

Stop giving away free tickets unless there is a purchase on the back end. Give away 4 GA's for the opener if they agree to buy 4 for the second game. e.g.

There will be no premium home games in 2011, although there will be two home winable games, which I like better. Both FIU and VMI are winable games.

    Incentive to buy tickets?

Guaranteed parking in the same lot as 2010.

Take the plunge, put up the dough and sell football jerseys to season ticket holders.

Ditto for tailgating tents. How is it that UA doesn't sell blue or gold UA tents? The sea of blue UK tents seen at Kentucky this year was unbelievable.....and they have ONE SEC win.....Make them availavble as well.

Open access to all spring and fall practices held in the stadium - Tell that idiot they hire that harasses anyone that walks by the stadium during a practice to go away. Exaclty what the hell are we hiding, anyway!

    Just win baby!!!!

  8. I disagree with playing Egner right now. His athleticism is un-questionable, but he still looks like he needs quite a bit of work. It is one thing to do that against the second string of a D-III team in the second half of a blowout. It is a whole other issue altogether putting up a performance like that in crunch time of a big game against Dayton, Temple, Minnesota, Ohio or Can't State. Josh was flying around out there, no doubt, but I never got the impression that he knew what position he was supposed to be in. I think he needs a year of practice to be able to pick up the nuances of the game that will make him a great player. I think if he played to open the season you would see a lot of lines like 2 points, 3 rebounds, 2 blocks and 6 fouls in 8 minutes.

I also disagree with the idea of playing 2 of the 3 forwards. We are plenty deep at the 3, 4 and 5 spots right now with McClanahan, Diggs, McKnight, Cvetinovic, Zeke and Bardo. There are barely enough minutes out there to try and develop one of the freshmen. Trying to get playing time for two of them is going to split the minutes up in such a way that neither one will get a chance to truly develop, hence wasting a scholarship year for two guys. Contrary to what some might say, this is not a re-building year for the Zips where we are just trying to feel out what we have in these new guys for down the road.

Can't say I agree with much of this post!!

Play Egner- if this was the Hipsher era where we needed to save players and years of eligibility, Ok. But this isn't.

I also am not concerned much with positions? Is he a 3 or 4 etc? Match-ups and defensive agressiveness many times determines the combination on the floor.

I also cannot say we are "deep" at any position, but I do like the returners..and I do believe we have enough experience that we could develop more than one freshman.

We all know KD likes to play 9-10 guys...I've aleady know my top nine--Play 'em!

    McNees

    Roberts

    Abreu

    Diggs

    McKnight

    Cventinovic

    Marshall

    Egner

    Euton

  9. You guys continue to want to blast OSU, but you have no real reason to do it.
For the umpteenth time, they are a competitor of the Zips.

    Oh yeah, I forgot. LOL

    Per Jeff Sagarin....not Zips Win!

Update: 75% of the season complete and the SOS is 87 out of 120.

    13 Ohio State A = 86.27 8 1 65.41( 87)

Good to see you are so obsessed with them and following them so much. I am surprised you aren't bashed relentlessly for it. You must not be a true Zip fan.

BTW, Obsession isn't a good thing. You may want to seek professional help. Just saying.......

Exactly how am I obsessed with THEM?

On a weekly basis I take one minute and check out Sagarin's ratings to see how his computer formula ranks all the college football teams.

I then post for you the tosu sos. Hardly an obsession...

As for the Zips, I've never gone to a game!!!!

  10. Wa, wa, wa, wa,wa,wa,wa,wa,wa,wa,waWa, wa, wa, wa,wa,wa,wa,wa,wa,wa,waWa, wa, wa, wa,wa,wa,wa,wa,wa,wa,wa

Wa, wa, wa, wa,wa,wa,wa,wa,wa,wa,waWa, wa, wa, wa,wa,wa,wa,wa,wa,wa,waWa, wa, wa, wa,wa,wa,wa,wa,wa,wa,wa

Here is a great place for you to post this kind of stuff. Stop it here. Thank you.

But all the crying is here. They don't do it over there.

Believe me, they would ask you to go away if your name was Zipbuck and you talked Zips football on a tosu board.

  11. What I am shocked about over the past two days is how quickly and completely EVERYONE has jumped off the OSU bandwagon. I'm well aware of the tendencies of NE Ohio fans, but did I ever underestimate the reaction from the Wisconsin loss. All week, and especially on Saturday, there were OSU fans EVERYWHERE! Wearing their OSU gear and shouting OH--IO out in random places whenever they crossed paths. Sunday I go out and.....NOTHING and I mean NOTHING! Not a single person wearing OSU gear ANYWHERE and believe me, I was looking for them! The only person I saw yesterday wearing OSU stuff was my buddy, an OSU alum who came over to my house and knew I would give him even MORE crap if he DIDN'T wear OSU stuff! In the past TWO days, I have only seen 2 articles of OSU gear including my buddy! The media is even jumping off the bandwagon. The papers have 1/5 the typical OSU coverage and most of this is from the AP! The Cleveland Plain Dealer has almost as many articles on the MAC schools on their college page as they do OSU articles. Normally you have to go 2,3,4 pages in to find a single MAC article. Hell, there is even one to make the OSU fans feel good their school doesn't suck as bad as Akron. Amazing, simply amazing!

Please, enough with comments like these. You are hurting Buckzips feelings...GP1 was right, the Vest should have scheduled Urbana instead of Wisconsin and he would be sitting atop the polls at 7-0.

  12. I guess in your world, every team that loses is a fraud...

Thank you for your two long posts. You must have been up half the night boiling in anger. I'm sure if you had better writing skills, you could have composed a much shorter response.

Every team that loses isn't a fraud. Good teams lose all the time. What makes a fraud is the build-up. These teams and fans think something great is about to happen after a year of winning against less than capable teams. At the end of the year, that team gets destroyed by a much better team they thought they were as good as and the fraud is complete.

I have no doubt tOSU will march right through a terrible conference and be in the BCS Championship. Who is going to stop them? Michigan....we saw the Rich Rod 4-0 start last year and how it ends. Iowa (speaking of frauds)....lost to an average Arizona team. Wisconsin......almost lost to an always underperforming PAC 10 team at home and nobody should be impressed. PSU....when Joe Pa retires, they can change their name to the University of Illinois.

The best tOSU can hope for is for the voters to lose their minds and actually put Boise State in the championship game. I'm sure everyone in Buckeyeland if rooting for that. Winning a national championship game after beating not a single good team all season is what is needed for tOSU. The last thing they want to see is Alabama lining up on the other side of the ball.

LOL. I wasn't boiling at all. Actually I was laughing at you. SPS is funny to read. Once again you are showing it here.

"Terrible conference, not beating a single good team" wa, wa, wa, wa....More foolish, ignorant comments by you.

I just like to express myself and give responses to all ignorant points. Unlike you, I prove my points, rather than just throwing out uneducated, jealous jibberish.

Actually i agree with you on certain things. It's the way you say it that is ridiculous and reeks of SPS. I don't think OSU goes undefeated this year. I think they lose to Wisci and Iowa both on the road. You can call me a lot of things, but homer isn't one of them. Secondary is not good IMO, and the running game is lacking.

    Carry on.

My luckeyes come in with a strength (weak) of schedule of ....NINETY-NINE....

College Football 2010 through games of October 2 Saturday the BCS uses the ELO_CHESS from here

    HOME ADVANTAGE= 3.01 RATING W L SCHEDL(RANK) VS top 10 | VS top 30 | ELO_CHESS | PREDICTOR

    1 Alabama A = 97.96 5 0 73.46( 26) 1 0 | 2 0 | 97.87 1 | 97.56 1

    2 Oregon A = 92.58 5 0 68.39( 57) 0 0 | 1 0 | 90.79 6 | 94.23 2

    3 Boise State A = 92.57 4 0 70.35( 38) 0 0 | 2 0 | 92.86 3 | 91.80 3

    4 Florida A = 90.61 4 1 75.30( 14) 0 1 | 0 1 | 90.89 5 | 89.84 4

    5 Oklahoma A = 90.11 5 0 75.28( 15) 0 0 | 3 0 | 95.66 2 | 86.28 12

    6 Ohio State A = 89.87 5 0 63.81( 99) 1 0 | 1 0 | 90.07 7 | 89.18 5

  13. My question....

With 17 starters back, a lot was expected from this team. After watching the first 5 games, the players seem to have regressed since last season. Is this due to the players getting used to a new offensive and defensive philosophy or is it that we simply do not have the right type of players to run the system that you are trying to install?

I would ask iCoach if a bowl game was out of the question.

Or if 0-12 is a real possibility?

Even after the beatdown on Saturday I still had my hopes up to beat Ball State...Now, not so much.

In retrospect, I find it interesting how many of us thought we would be somewhat competitive with the 17 starters back. Even I thought four wins were certain.

But if anyone was at the Spring game and saw how bad it was, our 0-5 start really isn't that surprising.

In a game set-up for offense, the defense killed the offense. The offense could barely move the ball.

We love to rip the 3-3-5 defense and rightly so, but all we did from last year is rearranged the chairs on the titantic and it's sinking fast.

We couldn't stop anyone in 2009 and the same goes for this year...

    We need better players.....and fast...

  14. Another daunting week of games for the almighty medium ten!!!!

I hear Illinois refused to play Glenville, so they have a bye this week.....

    Central Michigan @ Northwestern

    Toledo @ Purdue

    Northern Colorado @ Michigan State

    Bowling Green @ Michigan

    Ball State @ Iowa

    Austin Peay @ Wisconsin

    Temple @ Penn State

    Eastern Michigan @ Ohio State

    Akron @ Indiana

    Northern Illinois @ Minnesota

  15. And the SEC mystique continues.

If the SEC isn't the best conference, which is? I would lean to the Big 12...you probably disagree. The Big 10 lost 2of3 against the PAC10 yesterday and was an extra point miss away from possibly losing 3of3. The Big 10 and the darling of the Big 10 and Kirk Herbstreit, tOSU, will be exposed for being frauds by the end of the season. I wouldn't put them at the top.

I'm not a big 10 fan, but I would like to see an SEC school play tOSU in the shoe in the winter time. those guys never have to play in cold snowy weather and because of that have an advantage over schools who have to have game plans that involve cold non speed conducive weather.

I would like the medium ten to stop scheduling so many MAC schools and Marshall. A middle of the pack SEC school like Tennessee (similiar budget) would dominate the medium ten.

If only the Browns could play Tressel's schedules, they would dominate.

Texas, USC, and Miami Fl. agree with you. :puke: That is who OSU has had on the schedule the last 5 years and they have won their share of them too.

On the other hand Florida playing all of the little sisters of the poor also agrees with you.

Some of the ignorance on this board is utterly amazing to me. You guys attack a team you hate, but ignore the fact that other teams you compare them to do the same things and even worse, but you don't mention that. Some of you guys really let your hatred cloud your ability to make a rational post.

Yes, many of the B10 teams play MAC teams. That is a regional thing. Just as the SEC, PAC10 and all the rest play out of conference games against weaker opponents. Look for yourself at the SEC teams pre-conference schedules.

The B10 has 6 teams in the top 20 right now. I hardly call that Medium10...

It is true though that the SEC doesn't come north to play games?

Tennessee would domimate the B10..ROFLMAO. More ignorance and not having a clue about college football.

Funny how Minny, Wisci, Iowa all went out west this week to face top 20 teams. When was the last time Florida, LSU, Alabama did that? When was the last time any of them came north?

I do agree though that if the Browns played a college schedule they would dominate. That takes an intelligent being to state the obvious.

I won't even visit this thread anymore as I know the morons will come in full force now. Others start the crap, I respond and then the idiots all attack me.

To this day, I have still never, ever started an OSU thread. Yet, I have ignored many.

I apologize if some of you are too intolerant to accept someone that has 2-Alma-Mater.

I would defend UA on the OSU boards if I had to, but posters there aren't as ignorant as some here. They usually say good things about UA and want other Ohio teams to succeed.

    Same old, same old.

    Thanks Big Zip.

After spending an entire weekend following the Zips: Soccer game on Friday, the long drive down to Lexington for football and then back on Sunday to catch the soccer team on Sunday, the last thing I look forward to is clicking on Zipsnation only to read about who “Zips” fans think the buckeyes should be playing in the winter. Sorry, it has no place and as long as folks post about it, I will rip back.

As for BZ, thanks for making most of my points.

You mention the five tough games over the last 5 years. Great! Five quality opponents out of 20 (non-conference games) A tough game 25% if the time. As I mentioned, if only Mangini (Browns) had the luxury of three guaranteed wins in the first 4 games every year, he would be hailed as a savior in c-town.

Of course the MAC-BT is a regional match-up. However, tosu doesn’t play MAC schools because it’s regional. They play because they are guaranteed wins. Period.

The BT having multiple teams in the top 25 is nothing new.

The six teams in the top 25 have played a collective 18 games.

TEN of the 18 games were versus non-BSC competition. Let’s all get excited!

How is using a large budget, quality program, middle of the SEC, school like Tennessee as a barometer for BT success ignorant?

Minn, Wisc and Iowa did go play fellow BCS schools- And two of the three teams LOST with UW getting a lucky win. If you traded more of those non-bcs games mentioned above for BCS games, there wouldn’t be six BT teams in the top 25.

I need some of what you’re smoking if you truly believe that OSU fans want the other Ohio teams to succeed! Of course, that depends on how you define success. You could not find even one buckeye fan who was excited to see UC rated ahead of them last year. Every one I heard was jealous and wined the tosu was better and would beat them if they played. When buckeye fan is king turd on sheet mountain, everything is great. If not, they riot.

I would love to be able to view the college football landscape with your red and silver glasses. I don’t. Never did, never will. My view is with my blue and gold glasses. And asking that I don’t have to hear about buck nut nation on the Zips message board really isn’t asking for too much.

  16. Alright, I've seen enough of Patrick Nicely. The kid doesn't have it and never will. Matt Rogers is no superman, but at least he's mobile and he didn't look half bad yesterday. At this point I think he gives us the best chance to get some things done on offense. Being that next week is basically a wash, I think Ianello needs to give both these kids a half of football and then pick the best performer to QB this team heading into MAC play. Put the heat on both of them and see who comes out of the fire. For those at the game yesterday, (besides Captain Kangeroo, who's still planning his 2013 Patick Nicely draft party), did Nicely look as awful in person as he looked on tv?

    He looked pretty bad.

However, he's still a better quarterback than Rogers is...Do you recall how awful he was at CMU last year?
