I'll 2nd that!Option one is my favorite. A home game against an FCS school to build confidence and 3 quality but beatable FBS opponents. Also, I think the Louisville agreement should have a return game involved and no more than a 2 for 1.

Band will be marching through campus. I have heard players walking from the Student Union Circle to the Fieldhouse (Walk of Champions). Gates to the Stadium will be opening 2 hours prior to kick-off

From what I have been told by Athletics is that ISP - Akron Athletics signed a contract with Barley House and part of the deal was to have them be the official watch party location. T-shirts were purchased for the staff and everything. Alumni sent the e-mail out in support of the decision by Athletics.

NE Ohio has been starving to represent a winner for a long time, OSU has fed that hunger. If the Zips consistently win, attendance will go up but there will always be OSU gear because they compete for National Championships and we compete for MAC Championships, plain and simple. Could that change? I surely hope so, but it will take time.

I talked with Andre Jones today, an amazing person, very well spoken. He thinks the Zips will definitely surprise the Nittany Lions. I love the attitude he had towards the game and the season.

Agreed, having something like that through the K.e.n.t State game would be a truly great experience for all.

I hadn't read the foreward until I saw this thread. I liked it. My thoughts are it is being sold on the UA campus in the B&N Bookstore. Current students may not know the connection we have with Jim Tressel and I have no problem with Tressel writing the foreward as long as it gets students interested in the Zips product. Heisman is a great story as well. Why be upset with our past and who was once here no matter where they are now. People always reach out to the well-known alumni and friends because it helps in getting the word out to those average fans and potential new ones.We really just need to get over ourselves and embrace what we have to offer. There is great tradition here, why hide it?

I was in the bookstore earlier this week and the book is already on the shelves.

Tidbit for the Day
Zip N' Dots replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
Looks like we offered Zac Rosenbauer # 17 on the list, anyone know anything? Also, with Ryan McCollum (# 19) we are listed. -
I talked to athletics today and they are working on a watch party at the Barley House for the Penn State Game.
-
Um, No, the marketing department gets paid to market athletics. They should be held at a much higher standard.

I highly agree from a PR standpoint it is going to raise eyebrows and that we need to continue our improvements of all programs. Any arena and or soccer stadium will need to be funded privately by alumni and donors to avoid the Peoples Eyebrow (Unless the city can get some of that earmarked money from O'Bama, for new construction projects.....)

Spring Game On-Campus Tailgating Kickoff
Zip N' Dots replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
I don't see tailgating being allowed within parking deck areas, too much liability especially up top. -
dang it, now my inforcision home opener keychain is off by a week!

Spring Game On-Campus Tailgating Kickoff
Zip N' Dots replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
thatd work, except you wouldnt be able to get any cars out there. University would NEVER allow cars to drive on natural turf... and if its wet... that field would need so much repair it wouldnt be funnyno, no cars, people would go there and play catch, dining services would have food available and open grills. Kind of like the courtyard area that Syracuse had last year -
Spring Game On-Campus Tailgating Kickoff

they should make tailgate city on the grass of the outdoor track, fenced off and nice large location. -
I'm enjoying our conversation WinZip so please don't think of me quoting you as attacking. Our academics at the university are nothing comparable to a pizza delivery major like they serve at Can'thttp://www.uakron.edu/colleges/cba/newsinf...n/princeton.phphttp://www.uakron.edu/colleges/cba/newsinf...stundergrad.phphttp://www.uakron.edu/about_ua/news_media/...e+co-op+programhttp://www.uakron.edu/about_ua/news_media/...novation+awardshttp://www.uakron.edu/colleges/educ/ --> Notice the logo that says accredited for 50 yearsNot that we need to stop paying attention to academics, but I think we are strong in academics and Dr. Proenza wants to be successful in every aspect of this university including athletics which is why we are seeing this focus of late. KD is getting the tools, JD is getting the tools, Proenza expects nothing less than success.

Remember why students come here? I don't think Akron is misguided by focusing on athletics facilities. It is great to think academics is the first reason why most students choose a school, but it's not, a strong athletics program is a huge factor. examples?http://media.www.gonzagabulletin.com/media...t-3303134.shtmlhttp://www.thesportjournal.org/article/imp...ncaa-division-iDo I think that is the way it should be? Not really, but as you can see it helps!

It's not yet been 11 days since the Zips won the MAC Title .. and already Skip is throwing a stinky wet blanket on the smoldering embers of excitement for Zips hoops. Well done Skip .. well done. Great effort. Please cite a post where ANYONE is fine with only having one chance to dance. People here are coming to the realization that the building of the program is WORKING .. that the schedule needs to fit the team when it's early in the process (the last couple of years) and that as the team establishes winning habits, we expect the scheduling to grow and get more difficult. The RESULTS (SEE: 2009 MAC TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONSHIP) prove that KD's plan is WORKING. Would other plans be working? Perhaps .. but the important thing is that his vision and strategy IS panning out.Do you honestly think that KD is going to sit on his laurels and pretend that the status quo will fill the trophy case? What possible evidence is there to indicate he will?Nothing about how the past 5 years have gone suggests to me that this is a one and done thing. The Zips won the title with nobody averaging 12 ppg. They won the title with 1 senior. They won the title with no short-term hired guns. They won the title with depth and team play. These are components to building a championship program .. not just building a championship team. I think there's a clear difference, and I think the Zips fit squarely in the former category. B) B) Repeat after me .. start slowly if you have to: THE ZIPS ARE THE 2009 MAC CHAMPIONS! THE ZIPS ARE THE 2009 MAC CHAMPIONS! :champs: :champs: Go Zips!!Great posts Watcher, I have enjoyed everything you have written, I completely agree about the process and that the current road we are on is the right one. If we continue, I believe as we grow our program the MAC itself will get better cause teams will begin to feel pressure to compete. A stronger MAC will yield more bids to the tourney (ie Horizon this year: Butler and CSU). If the MAC schools decide not to step it up then you have your Gonzaga of the East.

What happen to the arena talk across from canal park? perfect location, I talk to someone from the city and they said that is still being considered.
-
All the teams you mention should be the caliber that we look at when scheduling our OOC this upcoming year. I disagree when it comes to teams like UNC for the simple fact that there will be no return games. Pitt was a must to schedule, we compete with them for recruits, UNC, not yet. Like some have said, it is a process, a gradual one at that, KD knows what he is doing.

Well we could of had Florida States Representative on the list........Richard Simmons

I would agree with issues of capacity but the students are gone for spring break so that should even it out, also a mojority of people like to watch mulitple games, can't do that at the JAR. Lastly, a majority of people want to drink when watching sports that is just a gimme.
