I don't know. I can actually see our team shutting out Akron with our defense ranked 30th in the nation right now. Alot of it I think has to do with mentality. Akron will no doubt take us lighter and less serious than they ever did Purdue.
But just because Akron scored 24 on Purdue doesn't mean Akron will score at least that on Middle Tennessee. Stranger things have happened in college football. Last season I saw Mississippi State get beat by Division 1-AA Maine only to turn around and knock off the #1 team in the SEC East, the Florida Gators, the very next week.
But that doesn't mean that Maine would beat Florida or even come close to beating Florida just because they beat Mississippi State who Florida lost to.
If we turn it over like we did against UNT I can see us losing like 21-7. But if we play against Akron like we are capable of without mistakes, I can see us winning by as big a margin as that guy from CBS Sportsline predicted.
You assume the Zips aren't as fired up for this game as Purdue. Nothing could be further from the truth if you ask me. The team was flat out PISSED after blowing a game the whole team felt like deserved to win last year, and bad tastes like that don't leave your mouth. Many on the Zips team feel like had they not blown MTSU last year, they would've been in a bowl game. There's a lot of buzz in the community surrounding this team this year and the boys are eager to put one in the win column. JD will have them ready to play, whereas I see the Blue Raider players playing with the thought in the back of their head that their coach is about to get canned. Uncertainty is never a good mentality for a football team. If Akron comes out rocking I can see MTSU packing it in. Who knows though. This will be an interesting game to watch because talent wise the two teams are very similar.
Geez, I would think that the line would be even or "0." I guess the guys just galnced at our overall record against you guys and made an asumption. Her's my take on the game:
Akron-Much better than last year at this time. Playing Purdue hard is a good sign, but just like we played Alabama hard, the big boys don't show anything but their bland version of their offense against the little guys, so I don't think either team should get too excited.
MT much better Defense than I have ever seen and I've been following this program since 1993. Offense could be deadly, but too many mental errors.
Since it's at MT, I'll pick MT by 3, but we have been known to blow teams away at home. No guarantees of course. I fully realize that it could go the other way as well. I think we have two teams on equal footing, but with the game at MT, I think we win it.
