  2. Several high profile recruits have visited Akron in recent weeks. The new staff is busy performing last minute recruiting magic. 3. Richard Hall's Scout Profile link:http://hswestvirginia.scout.com/a.z?s=413&...amp;nid=4266308Trust our coaching staff over the flawed science of star rankings. Of the current Zips playing in the NFL, only Andy Alleman was a *** star player coming out of high school. More significantly, of the 2009 NFL Draft First Round: 18 of the 32 picks were ** or *** Star players coming out of High School (11 of 32 were ** Stars)

  5. Dylan Ennis talks about his basketball experience in Toronto, New York and at Lake Forest Academy. He also explains why he chose the Zips. Very well-spoken and mature for a high school junior.Click on link below:
  6. See snippet from Chicagohoops.com below:Head Coach Keith Dambrot, And The University Of Akron, Score A Verbal Commitment From Class Of 2011 Lake Forest Academy Star Dylan Ennis Brian StinnetteOctober 19, 2009 Email Questions/Comments To brian@chicagohoops.com Head coach Keith Dambrot, and the University of Akron have scored a verbal commitment from Class of 2011 Lake Forest Academy star Dylan Ennis. Ennis, who transferred into Lake Forest Academy this fall, is one of the top 2011 prospects in the state of Illinois. Ennis, a 6'0" point guard, is a true floor general who delivers with his strong handle, court instincts and his ability to drop shots with range. Ennis is coming off of a strong run on the travel team circuit with Team Takeover. Lake Forest Academy head coach Matt Vaughn confirmed the commitment by Ennis to Akron, and noted that the family was really excited, and that they were very comfortable with the coaching staff at Akron. This coming season, Ennis will team with fast-rising Class of 2012 star Charles Harris and 2010 stars Michael Banczer and Remy N'Diaye on what will be another strong Lake Forest Academy team.
  7. Mike Bizzarro long-jumped over 21 feet and cleared 6-8 in the high jump during his high school career.
  8. More good news regarding the future of Akron's soccer program - Parade's All-American High School Soccer Team was announced on Sunday and two future Zips were listed:Forward Teal Bunbury, Prior Lake, Minn, SeniorMidfielder Ben Speas, Stow, Ohio, Junior
  9. Dambrot mines Ohio HS basketball talent more aggressively and successfully than any of the 12 DI coaches in Ohio. Akron currently leads all Ohio-based Division I basketball teams with 14 players from Ohio (with three players from Akron). Ohio State (Big Ten) - 7Cleveland State (Horizon) - 8Wright State (Horizon) - 6Youngstown State (Horizon) - 5Dayton (Atlantic Ten) - 6Xavier (Atlantic 10) - 8BGSU (MAC) - 5Can't State (MAC) - 1Ohio (MAC) - 5Toledo (MAC) - 4Miami (MAC) - 9
  10. According to Rise Magazine, the Zips have added two nationally ranked recruits to their roster for 2008:Teal Bunbury, Shattuck-St. Mary’s (Faribault, Minn.), (Ranked as the 20th best HS player in the country; 6th best forward)Darlington Nagbe, St. Edward (Lakewood, Ohio), (Ranked as the 21st best HS player in the country; 7th best forward) PS - Green is ranked as the 15th best HS player
  11. Nice article regarding Jared Province:http://www.tribune-chronicle.com/page/cont...0.html?nav=5024Although he was mostly known for his talent as a running back in high school he may end up playing saftey at Akron. Runs a very impressive 10.8 in the 100 meter dash. Great pick-up by the Zips.

  13. The PIAA "Big School" all-state selections were released today and Akron verbal Marvase Byrd from McKeesport was selected as a Second Team RB.
  14. Another JC football player interested in Akron is former Boise State WR Aiona Key. He is a very athletic 6'4'' wideout with speed and serious hops - he high jumped 7 feet in HS. One scouting service indicates that he made an official visit to Akron in the fall. However, his school of primary interest appears to be Utah.http://jcfootball.scout.com/a.z?s=87&p...amp;nid=3509161http://cleveland.rivals.com/viewprospect.a...326&sport=1
  15. 20. Chase Blackburn led the Giants with seven unassisted tackles and a fumble recovery against the Pats last night.
  21. Future Zip Da'Von Moore (5'11'' and 205 lbs) ran a stellar 10.70 in the 100 meters at the recent WIAPL Track Championship. His time 10.7 would have given him a third place at the MAC Championships. Local track experts predict that Da'Von will improve his 100 m time to the 10.5 - 10.6 range at the upcoming state meet.

  23. It's a shame because the I believe that Domonkos is still capable of being the kicker that he was in high school. Prior to the 2006 Penn State game, Domonkos hadn't kicked in a game situation since the Big 33 game in 2002. The long lay-off from football must have affected his confidence... One thing is for certain, Matt Domonkos has a big-time leg. I saw Domonkos play often when he was in high school because my son played for a rival school (in the Johnstown area). He was confident, consistent and a solid D1 talent. He kicked a 58-yard field goal that set the Pennsylvania high school record as a senior. He also kicked two field goals in the Big 33 game and was rated as the best kicker in PA. Let's hope he regains his 2002 form...
  24. Coach Dambrot - You stand out above all others as the coach of "Ohio's Team." As fans we applaud the fact that the Zips are consistent winners - with the majority of their players from Ohio (12 of your 16 players are from Ohio and four are from Akron). Can't State has one Ohio player on it's 12 man roster. Note: Western Pa is an extension of Northeastern Ohio. I played against you when you were the shortest point guard in the city league - I respected your grit and determination 30 years ago - today I respect you as one of the best damn coaches in the country. We are very fortunate to have you...
  25. I suggest that we e-mail Dick Vitale to make him aware that Akron fans have a far less than flattering view of the NIT selection committee... Our soccer team has been snubbed by the NCAA for two straight years - unfortunately we let that go with only a whimper of protest - because soccer is not a major sport. Obviously, the University of Akron (starting with the President) needs to do a better job marketing successes to change the perception of the national media, otherwise this trend will continue in all sports - major and minor. We can help also - by not letting this issue wither and die like we did with our very deserving soccer team. Dick Vitale's comments regarding the NIT selection committee: "I really like what the NIT committee has done, making the tournament like a mini-NCAA. There are a lot of solid teams in the bracket and I really feel there are several NIT squads that could have made it to the Sweet 16 at the big dance. CM Newton, Dean Smith and company have done a super job with this event. Meanwhile there have been some outstanding games in the NIT already, including Marist's win at Oklahoma State and NC State showing guts by winning at Drexel. The Massachusetts-Alabama game was also outstanding."
