Andy Katz, ESPN, College Basketball Analyst:"Syracuse getting snubbed by the NCAA Tournament is nothing compared to the feeling at Washington and Akron of being left out of the NIT.""This was cruel."
-
Note that the NIT Selection committee members are all linked to the so-called "power conferences." The old farts took care of their BCS brethren - what a farce. Akron must have made a mistake by beating Temple on the road last year...The committee didn't want something like that to happen again.Rudy DavalosDon DeVoeGene KeadyReggie MintonC.M. Rivals is reporting that Hargrave Military DT Cowles Stewart will play at Akron next year with former team members Shane Shead and Almondo Sewell. Cowles looks like a great late addition for the Zips.See link:http://floridastate.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?pr_key=50432

Rumor circulating on the Pitt Golden Panthers board is that Bryan Williams has verballed to the Zips because of his desire to play running back. Unfortunately, the Zips may have lost Vincent Hill to the ACC.

Just a quick note: Zip recruit Zach Anderson was a late addition to the PA squad. -

Akron Recruit Joe Tuzze placed second in the PIAA AA shot put competition. Not bad for a fullback/linebacker. I believe that his best throw this year was nearly 57 feet. See link below: http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/05153/513839.stm

Brad Kanuch is the kid in the middle of this picture. Shawn Lewis, a 2005 Can't State recruit. is to his immediate right. Kanuch beat Lewis by a huge margin at the finish line. Note: Boston College and Maryland offered this week. See track pic below: http://westy.jtwn.k12.pa.us/WestyPics/Trac...SC_0042_JPG.jpg

Akron is recuiting Brad Kanuch a junior running back and wide receiver from Westmont Hilltop High School in Johnstown, PA. This young man can flat out fly. He recently ran a 4.26 in the 40 at the East Coast Nike Camp. This track season he has run the 100 in 10.4, the 200 in 21.96 and hit 46 feet in the triple jump. Sources say that he already visited Akron campus with his father. His brother Jim is a back-up wide receiver with Penn State. See track picture at the link below. http://westy.jtwn.k12.pa.us/WestyPics/Trac...SC_0034_JPG.jpg

TE Merce Poindexter will be a special player for the Zips. See attached link below: http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/04359/431623.stm
-
Merce Poindexter is a solid D1 prospect. He played wide receiver at Ellwood City. What separates Merce from other wide-outs is his size (6'4'') and speed (4.54).

Let's hope that Akron pounces on the opportunity to pick-up running back Eugene Jarvis from Pittsburgh Central Catholic High School, This kid is an explosive runner. He just rushed for 192 yards in the AAAA championship game in Hershey, PA to finish his career with 4,330. West Virginia isn't recruiting him much any more. Jarvis said he might make a visit soon to Akron. The knock on Jarvis is his size. He is only 5 feet 7. Akron didn't get Sutton but they have a stong chance to get the best running back in Pennsylvania.

Wisconsin Place-Kicker Matt Domonkos, who played for Bishop McCort HS, Johnstown, PA may have transfered to the Zips. One of his former HS teamates mentioned to me that he had transfered to Akron. Domonkos kicked a Pennsylvania-record 58-yard field goal as a senior. He also kicked a 52 and 31-yarder in the 2002 Big 33 game.
