  1. CRAP. It was for all intents and purposes a "trap" game. Everyone looking forward to playing tenth ranked Creighton with post season implications and along comes the Western Michigan Broncos. WMU played their arses off while the Zips looked like sleep walkers the entire game. Down right scary. WMU played a sticky "in your grill" kind of defense that had the Zips off a step all night. It was, unnerving. Did not help having WMU wearing pale gold tunics that are probably home jerseys. Did make for difficulty in identifying players. A cheap and tawdry trick if ever there was one. For a change, of late, the game officials did not inject themselves into the game. Just want the Zips to inject some life into their play. In a recent interview coach Porter boasted that while occasionally a player may not put forth his best effort, but the team will never have a bad game. Hey, coach, the team played a terrible game. They played like crap. You know it, I know it and the wiser fans know it. Oh, and for the fans who did not like my invectives... I bought a ticket. So, bite me.
  2. Since Ohio U will undoubtedly be ranked number one in the MAC this pretty much implies that the Zips will NOT make the top 144 list. Big deal. Did YOU vote for AMPI today?
  3. Its true. The Zips will scrimmage Eastern Kentucky there. Got it from the coaching staff.
  4. Your daily reminder. Let's give Ampi the victory. Go Zips ... !!!!
  5. Brett will be back with the team next week. As for conditioning .. I'm not sure as I have not seen any suicide drills. The players look well conditioned.
  6. Classless is a bit short. What other team in pro ball has a known serial rapist in the starting line up? The Loonys claim they run a class operation in Pizztown. Do they? Really? Did YOU vote for Ampi today?
  7. I confess. I have not sat through a full practice as of yet. But, I have been party to part of two practices. Thus far everyone is healthy. The really, really, really good news is Alex Abreu. Alex is for real. Alex is a genuine POINT GUARD. Much better than even predicted. Look for Alex to take the starting role early in the season. He is that good. If he stays healthy he will easily be a MAC all freshman. Dakota Euton is a huge load in the middle. Big wing span, space eater that takes pressure off of Zeke. Zeke has put on weight and strength. Got to get him to be more of a basketball nut than a pin ball wizard. The tools are there. Depth looking good. The new players are quickly learning the system; now set to be run yer arse off style. More up tempo that Zips fans crave. Solidifying zone defense roles early on as the Zips will add more zone to their defensive package in response to keeping opponents honest. Coach expects this tougher schedule to pay off by MAC tournament time. Trick is to not choke on the few cupcakes and to surprise a big time program. Gain some respect and player confidence. Over all, the Zips will be a rough customer and a twenty win plus team for 2010-11.
  8. Spent twenty minutes chatting with new Zips assistant basketball coach, Charles Thomas. Charles played his college ball at Eastern Michigan under coach Braun assisted by the ever able coach Dambrot. After several NBA years and coaching in the minor leagues coach Thomas lands on his feet at Zippyland. Welcome to Akron coach. This will be a great home for you. Coach Thomas is a class act that will help Akron both on and off the court. He is, btw, a close friend of KD in real life.
  9. Looks like GP1 stumbled onto the fermented grape. He babbles like a brook. Wad he say?
  10. A fair number of undevoted Rowdies stayed home to watch the Suckeyes choke <gack, gack> on a big one. I got home in time watch the desperate failings of the sweater man as his stooges, er, players, just could not pull it out. Say, how did the flushers do? Wait, no one cares. It was a fine pounding the futbolers put on a mediocre (sad to say) Buffalo side.
  11. I would love to get Virginia as the third round match. Which would be at Lee Jackson for the trip to Santa Barbara. Let's give ole Virginy the warm hospitality they showed us in Cary.
  12. Vote Here AMPI has slipped to second place. Vote, vote, vote.
  13. Ever since I was a small child back in the days of leather helmets and no face guard I have loved football. The sandlot pick up games with the neighborhood kids; the CYO years where I first worked up a grimy sweat on through high school and college; I have always loved football. This season the Zips grieve me something awful. Deep down in the core of me is the understanding that football is not a game for the weak. It is a game for those with stout hearts. Its not about size, speed or strength. It is about guts. Guts that start in the heart. More than anything else the 2010 Zips have no heart. This grieves my spirit. How do we mend a team with no heart? Who is to blame? Yesterday I wrote that icoach had all the passion of a kumquat. Do we blame icoach? In the movie Remember The Titans there is a scene between Julius and Gary where Julius says, "Attitude reflects leadership". Who's attitude sets the tone for the Zips?
  14. VOTE DAILY
  15. I have a friend who has one side of her mouth permanently hooked upward. She had suffered a stroke. Indicating of course that she has brain damage. Perhaps his upward hook is showing his drain bamage.
  16. Vote Here
  17. Look who slid into the number two spot. Akron soccer dominates. Oh, its Louisville and former Akron HC Ken Lolla.
  18. Only took two things: they cheat (and been caught) and boatloads of cash.
  19. I'm sure there's some of that going on. But I think for the most part (similar to the situation with the leader of our country) it's just that when you see someone failing, you'd rather see them replaced sooner rather than later. Akron is a D-1A program. We should NOT be a training camp for head coaches. For me, as with the leader of our country, I pray that these men succeed, all the while knowing that none of them will.
  20. Just as many (me included) predicted ... oh en twelve; oh en twelve Thank God for Caleb Porter, the Rowdies and the Zips men's soccer team for carrying us through these terrible times. oh en twelve. Its icoach's personal motto. footnote: Heard icoach pre-game interview before the Cant (choking on this) game. He has all the vigor, enthusiasm of a kumquat.
  21. Knowing Phil as I do; I'd say that "pissed" is more the word.
  22. Never, ever, visit Happy Valley and not visit the Creamery. PSU has a college of Ice Cream. At the Creamery you can buy fresh made ice cream. PSU students make the fantastic concoction beginning right from on campus cows.
  23. Actually, several of us had a solid, workable plan for Zips football ... hire coach Martin away from Grand Valley State. Oooops, to do that we would have needed a REAL Athletic Director in place who gives a damn about the University of Akron. Build your damned, Ill-conceived basketball arena and get the hell out of town.
