GOAL ... Akron 5-0
-
I think that if two teams are tied after two overtimes if should be declared a draw. Co-champions...!!!! Think about it. It is necessary to determine advancing up to the championship game by penalty kicks when neither team wins out right. However, why punish one team with a loss by penalty kicks when they played an equal score game? Is it really necessary that one team is declared a winner when the teams actually tied? And, no, its not like kissing your sister. Your sister might be Pamela Anderson.

Beyond horrible. The damned referee TWICE called fouls on the Zips right in front of the goal allowing UC two shots from point blank range. They missed both of them. One thanks to a great save by David Meves. Bad part ... neither "foul" was an actual foul. Looked like the referee getting even with Meves for what ever David said to him in the first half that caused Meves to get a yellow card. note: upon review of the box score no yellow was given to Meves. From right behind the goal where I was standing it sure looked like Meves drew a yellow. The score lists: AKRON #8 SARKODIE, Kofi Yellow card 51:31 AKRON #10 AMPAIPITAKWONG, A. Yellow card 53:26 *** my bad *** NCAA should review the official's conduct. In my humble opinion, he should never be allowed to referee another Zips match. He was vindictive and putrid.

Eighty-eight minutes played and Wake still leads 1-nil. Its a yellow card fest on both sides.
-
Seventy-six minutes in and Wake Forest leads Virginia 1-nil.

72, excellent post. I, too, favor playing the young players. Burn the red shirts. If the talent is so bad, aren't we better off playing the youngsters and developing them? I see real problems with morale on the horizon.

You summary makes no sense. Mack left because he had a better job offer. CUSA is a better conference every day of the week. It has nothing to do with the players on the football team. My summary makes complete sense to anyone with 1/2 a brain. Rhoades road the wave of Mike Thomas' work, and parlayed it into a sweet job upgrade in Houston. Rhoades "managed the game" while he was at UA. But he did nothing spectacular on his own. Thomas got the stadium off the ground (that's why it looks like UVA's), and Thomas hired Dambrot. And the search committee that nabed Caleb was formed prior to Rhoades. Mack took credit on his bio for building the Stiles Center, even though it was completed years before he stepped on campus. The Rhoades administration took credit for a big donation to complete the Stiles Center football coach offices...but that was a donation from JD's father in law. Mack saw that JD was not not the answer, and he got the hell out of Akron while he had a spotless record. He's no dummy. He's as saavy a dude as I've ever met. Learn from me, GP1. You'll be a better person for it. You knowledge of UA athletics is pretty weak anymore. Being 400 miles from campus really shows. Your bravado is as big as ever, but you really have no clue what you're talking about. Looking at a box score and ranting about "The Big Dialer" is weak. Alot like ITZ fawning over Charlie Frye's 230 yards passing...after Frye was down 37 - 0 after 15 minutes. Can't wait for your next Charlie Frye post. It'll be your 1,000th. I'm going to have a snack after I read it. O.K., all of you go to your kitchens and have a snack. If my dull, fetid memory serves at all, its that Charlie Frye took his last snap as a Zip in 2004. Give it a rest. Charlie makes more money than all of you snipers make combined. Everyone is testy and upset because most of the more knowledgeable posters are former FB players and they easily see the sorry state of affairs. Tommy and Ronnie would be getting a pass if either of them showed any sort improvement in their respective job slot. Neither has. That is why I, along with several others, am crying out to can these clucks before the damage sinks the ship. And, sadly, its darn close.

Be careful about mentioning Gerry Faust and Ron Ianello in the same sentence. Faust, while never to be considered a great college coach measured in wins and loses, did great things for the University of Akron. This man still bleeds blue and gold in spite of all the crap idiots have slung at him over the years. I will take Gerry Faust any day. Gerry exudes honor and integrity. I am proud to know the man personally.

Best candidate mentioned. hear, hear

Big Zip, you are dead on. First step, and it needs to be done immediately, is firing Ton Wistrcill.
-
All comes down to one, specific thing .... coaching. There just isn't any.
-
Two of the three coaches, Terry Bowden and Paul Winters were assistant coaches at Akron in the past. This is an excellent starting point. All three could do far more with this current pack of players than the iteam has any chance of.
-
What makes you think that you are the only one?
-
I strongly get the impression that GP1 thinks this team has no leader. I couldn't agree with him more. And, yes, its time for Wistrcrap to be gone. The next AD can burn Idontknowhowtowin.
-
equins, sorry, pal. you just do not get it. For six years the Zips suffered with an inept, unqualified coach. Now, thanks to a "buddy" system, Wistrcrap hires his own inexperienced, inept coach. Waiting another six years, or even two years will kill Akron football. the hemorrhaging has to stop now. I think the fund solicitors now understand why I and many others did not renew our season tickets, and refuse to contribute other monies.
-
Two more years? How much damage do these two clowns (Wistrcrap and Icantwinoh) need to do before the football program is knocked back into division-II? Its time to fire the carpetbaggers and hire men (yes, I said MEN) who love Akron and also possess the requisite experience to be an Athletic Director and a Division I-A head football coach. 0-12 is a genuine possibility. The table is now set. Quick decisive action by the University president is needed immediately. It wont happen. That sucks.

Congratulations to classy coach Lamont Paris. Success breeds promotions. Another opportunity available on the Zips staff.

I'd like to see McNees at SG , since it would mean Abreu is a great PG. We would field a better team. If McNees needs to play the point because Abreu can't, Abreu sits on the bench. And we are weaker at SG. Cap'n, that pretty much sums up the situation.

NCAA College Cup Ticket Info
GoZips replied to Z.I.P.'s topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
I called UCSB and talked to Priscilla (after responding to umpteen prompts). Purchased a College Cup ticket for $40. That's what she recommended to do. Their stadium seats SIXTEEN thousand peeps. UCSB considers men's soccer their football program. I am NOT the first Zip to buy a ticket to the College Cup according to the lovely, young Priscilla. phone: 805-893-8272 -
Joining the ACC for soccer only is not as far fetched as it appears on the surface. The MAC men's soccer is shaky at best. Only five of the seven men's programs are full MAC members. That means that Florida Atlantic and Hartwick are in a position to change conference affiliation at any time. MAC men's soccer could collapse at any time. Already (last season) the automatic bid was taken away. While the ACC has not been previously mentioned associating with either the Big Ten or the Missouri Valley has been. The Zips need to plan on going somewhere. All three of those conferences are attractive homes for the Zips. It is highly unlikely that Akron would switch out of the MAC for men's soccer as long as the conference supports men's soccer. The one caveat here is maintaining an automatic NCAA tournament bid. Permanent removal of the automatic bid should prompt the University to quickly change conference.

Say, wasn't the knock on Akron that we could not compete with the ACC schools day in and day out? -
Soccer vs Wake Forest game thread
GoZips replied to RootforRoo44's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
To quote their poster deacvision7: "All in all not the worst game for the boys as we are just so damn young that this game will be a hard lesson for them. They now see what they have to get to in order to compete at the top level in college soccer, and that can only be a good thing. They fought hard all the way through the final whistle so the spirit is there for sure. Also, Akron fans are annoying and say some very uninformed things about the game." Bumpkins, uneducated bumpkins, too fricking bad we have the best men's college soccer team in America. The snobs from Hooterville are entitled by the grace of God to be the best. I think that envy is lime green. And, did you catch "in oder to compete at the top level in college soccer"? At least he concedes that the Zips are among the best. But, I suspect he did not proof read his rant or he would have altered the words.
