good point. hopefully we get some of these younger guys some pt,and develope some depth. the good thing about our season with all the question marks is that we have some very winnable mac games.our occ mtsu and army are not virgina or even penn state of last year.

i agree with c/k its a slap in the face comment!! why not just say d-1 football is a big jump to the nfl, but he had to pick out akron. it would be funny if charlie beats him out for the back up job. since after all dj played at flordia, and charlie played at poor little akron.

i do agree these decisions effect their entire life. why though commit to somone in the first place? if i was akron coaches, and i read that thread i would not be happy about it. go akron.

i have to agree with c/k that either he wants to play here or not. if he is not sure? he should not have verbal comitted to us in the first place.i realize a verbal does not mean much, but it sounds like the kid is going to jump if he gets another offer.there are alott of kids who would jump at the chance to play at any d-1 school. the only problem i see is coaches do the same stuff. look at urban meyer.im coaching at bg uhh utah uhh fla

i do agree somewhat with toledo.from 2000 up til now they have been pretty good.
my only point is that these bcs school have much more resources to pull money from bowl games,tv contracts ect. it makes the mac schools at a big disadvantage.
if we do ever get to top 25 though i hope we do jd won't be around after the first year to see it last. go akron.

im glad to see that the staff has the top 25 attitude. there is definately the talent in
the area to do that. however most mac teams cannot ,and will not spend the money that is necessary to be a top 25 team year in year out.that does not mean the mac teams cannot on any given year be top 25, but not on a consistent basis. if you look at the budgets for most top teams like ohio state they spend at least 5x on football what mac teams do.osu can do this because the football team also brings in a ton of money.
the mac is stuck because of the bowl payout ,and t.v. contracts it has. unfortunately no amount of of wishful thinking is going to change that. in the end it comes down to the all mighty $$. as long as the bcs system is in place it will make it difficult for any mac team to be top 25 year in and year out.

there is poster on the mac board that said the transfer is just a rumor. does anyone know what the real deal is? why wouldn't go zips.com have said something about this?
as for dials as long as he's back sometime into the mac season that be great. we need everyone healthy for tourney time. we saw what happened to buffalo last year. unfortunatley for the mac it seems the regular season does not mean much.

i think the d-line.we have very little proven depth,and no pass rusher.
the upper teams in are mac pretty much manhandled them.
hopefully if we get the right people eligble that won't be the case next year.
i have to agree with c/k alott of new starters so we won't know until a few games into the season. one thing is with purdue (the first game )they will be put to the test right away.
we will be able to see who will step up.

how was your bowl game?you got your ass whooped on. a fitting end to the last year in the mac. that is except for your stellar b- ball team. you definatley left the mac on a postitive note,and should be proud of your teams. im sure that is why your on our board

to bad about the dl from canton mc kinley. i think he could have gave us some much needed size ,and depth at dl. seems like were are real thin there now,and not very big. hopefully he ,and a few others we have can make the grades,and we might have some dl help for next year.

i picked up phil steel's 2005 football mag. he had purdue, and mtsu winning their conferences. he had akron,Can't, ou in a three way tie for third.he thought akron had a chance for a winning season based on the easier schedule then Can't ,ou.

your right .brett biggs is a terrible running back. im trying to be realistic though.
not many teams could lose four starting lineman,fb and the schools best ever qb ,and recover. it has nothing to do with owens. just the fact we lost a bunch of starters on offense. as for owens i think he did recriut some quality offensive players. his defense
was never any good. you could probabaly count on two hands the quality defensive players he had in ten years.

i have to agree with the c k. new -o line , losing the best qb akron ever had,and
our defense is really going to be young in some spots. sounds like a plan for disaster. that doesn't mean we can't win 5 to 6 games ,but i am realistic. just way to many holes to fill. what really scares me is the depth at some postions. the d line could be in real trouble if one of the starters goes down. who knows about the o-line because they are almost all new starters. the good thing is i don't think the defense could be any worse than they have been over the last few years. i think there is a big upside for the defense after a few games.go akron.

i have to agree this only helps the big boys. now they play 7 home, and five away.
most of the mac shcools will be lucky to get six home games. with the 12 games and counting 1 aa schools will only hurt mac schools chances at bowl bids. we could not get in last year; so unless we win the mac(or runner up) we may never see a bid.

the differnce is we were playing marshall team that was in the hunt for a conference title,and we were also playing some very decent football at the time. that's why people showed. Can't never has been in anything at that time of year except out of it.
they will bring no fans. which leaves everything up to akron. if you have it the 1st game of the year your gonna get 25-30 k. it's like going to vegas and betting $100.00 dollars to win $103.00. there is just no risk /reward that i see to this deal.it's all risk.

heres my take, and i hope im dead wrong.i think it's a big mistake.
game day temp 30 degrees, Can't with 1 mac win, we are out of the mac race.
joe average fan "hey i have a great idea. lets go to the Can't/ au game.
"oh that's right it's on tv. no sense in going to freeze your --- off for two teams ot of the mac race."
all youll here then is how akron can't draw fans, and our attendace stinks.

im not so sure this team can't win six of those games.if we can't beat can't, ball state, cmu and ohio, u then the program is in big trouble. none of the teams while miami,bg , n.ill are solid teams are not even close to virgina last year. i think our occ schedule is alott easier than last year. army ,msu, purdue. purdue lost thier qb also.
army is terrible,and mtsu is not exactly usc. that's not to say i don't think we won't have problems. the one thing i feel good about is our defense. let me explain. it would be almost impossible to play as badly as they did in the first three games. these are mostly new (young)guys that can only get better. the defense(personell) we had last year never got better over three years most of those guys were here. i am worried about the offense though. without frye to turn nothing into something,and a new o -line
i would not want to a rb this year. hopefuly they will prove me wrong. i do think if any of our qb's gets time to throw we have some great wr's.

i still think the Can't game should be first. later in the year we may in the race, but most likely Can't won't. they will bring no fans.if the weather is bad ,and both teams are out does anyone seriously think 30 k will be there. Can't fans won't care if it's the last game at the bowl( if this is true)? the first game the year the weather will most likley be good ,and Can't will bring some fans.i hope the a.d knows what he i doing, but i think it's a big mistake.

im concerned,but i dont why everyone's main focus is the qb. if the o-line don't block it doesnt matter who's behind center. i think we have some great players at wr and rb.
if we can find a way to get them the ball in the open field we can score.with four new starters in the o-line im alott more worried about that than qb.you can say what you want aboust last years line,but against the weaker mac teams we were able to run the ball. go zips.
