  1. Sounds like coaching and recruiting to me!
  2. You mean the same MAC teams that the ZIPS beat up on every day?? In case you didn't realize, we are in the same conference and play the same teams. And as for non-conference records, going into this week, we beat MORE of "these teams you play everyday" than you did. Although we are now tied in non-conference match-ups, take a look at RPI. I am sure Butler will be in the sweet sixteen playing Nevada. Whatever!Hey Assholio!! You are such a dumb fugg it is a true testament to your Can't edumacation!
  3. Yea, where is Assholio?? Probably had a heart attack since he was expecting Can't to blow out Butler!
  4. ...and you call that education?? Can't even do math!!!!
  5. Nevada shot way better than their avg. especially from three-point range. They will go far in the tourney. Hey, at least we played a real team and not a 'cake walk'ike Butler vs. Can't!!!
  6. Every once in a while AG sticks his ugly 'head' in here and says something so profoundly stupid that he reminds us how sports-ignorant he is. AG, thanks for consistently reapeating the only quote you have to hang onto since your team won't hang onto first place.Man, if feels good, doesn't it Zips fans??!!! :macc:
  7. Hey Trimmy, this is basketball here. Post this in the 'other sports' section.
  8. I usually go to BW's. Where did Pannini's move to? Main street?
  9. OK, here we go. I have been waiting for this one!YOU MUST APPOINT TWO STUDENTS TO TAKE CHARGE OF THE ROWDIES!! This is the ONLY way it works at other universities. Especially with the section split. One leader at one end, and one at the other. Gues what else? Other schools have organized cheers that ALL the students know. even if they don't know to do it, the leaders handle that. There are cheer sheets passed out in advance of the game to coordinate this. Oh, and they practice two! They meet outside of the game to practice the chants. Also, they have one central meeting place outside the arena that they students meet at. Someone peps them up to get the energy level up. They then travel en mass to the arena keepig the noise going right to their seats. They arrive at the seats with 20 minutes of game clock (warm-up) left as this is usually when the teams and officials take the floor. It sure is a lot of work, but this is how most of it happens. So who will step up the last few games this year? Who will take charge of leading and recruiting??BTW, another item that is effactive is the bleacher rumble. This happens when the students begin rumbling their feet on the aluminum floor at their seat. The rest of the fans will follow. Once that happens it becomes deafening in the arena!! :macc:
  10. hey folks thanks for your response and offers.I did hear from UAM (whom i believe is Mike Wadell!). He pretty much stated that the font was custom made and that I shouldn't try to acquire it because the company that developed it is watching out due to the huge success of the marketing campaign. I think for what I want to use it for, the other standard fonts you recommended should due for now.
  11. Not a bad idea. OK, who is UAM and how do I contact him?? (Forgive my stupidity!)
  12. OK, there has to be some art majors out there!Does anyone know what font is used on the Fear the Roo graphic as well as all the marketing materials and the jerseys? I hope it was not created special. Anyone know what it is and where I can get it so I don't have to search thousands online??
  13. Bulger room 1212University Commons on Sherman street.
  14. absolutely just interesting conversation at this point, but let's use Pitt as an example again. They play their fottball games at Heinz field. Most of the available seats are sold to season ticket holders. They play their basketball in Peterson Events Center which seats 12,500. You are correct: You have to put butts in the seats to even be considered. To the conference, it is about attracting national attention and making money!
  15. Um, it's not like it's in Cleveland. Drive to Akron and be with the mob!!!! If you go anyplace in Canton, you will probably be by yourself ..... unfortunately.
  16. Thanks for the POV Rowdy.as for the few standing on the sides, that is why the AK ROwdies are so important! These folks have no clue what it means to cheer and support. I think it is amazing that they know to stay standing until the first point is scored!! But with a strong CONSISTENT showing from the Rowdies, they will learn!! See this is where Zippy fits in (from my previous post). When that exact scenario happened, the ROwdies should be standing and cheering flapping there arms at the sides to indicate it is time to stand. Zippy should be running (no shimmering ) down the sideline waving his hands to get the crowd up. THIS IS THE REASON FOR A MASCOT. Tending to the children for photographs should always be secondary.Either way, the burdon rests on the Rowdies' shoulders. Can I get down to the seats with the Rowdies being an Alum??
  17. ???Better than Livingston!!!
  18. Posted on Wed, Feb. 15, 2006 www.ohio.com Showing some love for ZipsBy Terry PlutoSince the surprising University of Akron men's basketball team was playing on Valentine's Day, it's time to say I love what coach Keith Dambrot has done with the program.I love how he has won with a bunch of underrated, overachieving local players -- guys such as Dru Joyce III, Matt Futch and Romeo Travis, all of whom had no other major-college offers.I love how the Zips are so unselfish, how they aren't especially fast or strong. Nor would anyone say they're big for a Division I college team. Not when they often play three guards in the 6-foot range at the same time.I love how they move the ball from one side of the court to the other, how the players usually end up in the right spot when the ball comes to them when it's time to shoot.I love how their defense is disciplined, how they can switch from man-to-man to a few different zones with little problem.I love how the Zips lead the Mid-American Conference in scoring, yet they could win a physical, body-slamming game as they did 77-62 over Bowling Green before 3,869 fans Tuesday night at Rhodes Arena.I love how Rhodes has become their personal playpen in two years since Dambrot became coach -- 25-1 in the past two years. They are 11-0 this season, winning by an average of 21 points on this floor.I love how UA truly does share the ball. Travis is the leading scorer at 14 points per game; Joyce and Nick Dials are at 10 points.I love how Dials fit perfectly with Dambrot's style. Dials was a walk-on at Ohio State, played a year for the Buckeyes, starting nine games as freshman. When there was a coaching change, Dials knew his court time would be limited.I love how Dials came back from major knee surgery in six months to start for the Zips, and how he plays every game like a kid still trying to make the team.I love how Joyce plays like a 10-year NBA pro in terms of how he knows how to lead an offense, work the shot clock and play solid position defense.I love how Travis has proved wrong so many critics who believed that he was nothing more than a product of playing with LeBron James at St. Vincent-St. Mary.I love that the Zips are 19-5 and headed for their first 20-victory season since they were 21-8 in 1988-89, the final year of coach Bob Huggins when they were an independent.I love what Dambrot is doing -- one of the best, least-noticed coaching jobs in the country. In the previous four years before Dambrot became the coach, the Zips didn't have a winning record. Overall, they were 49-66, 30-42 in the MAC. Now, they are 12-2 in the MAC, leading rival Can't State (11-2) by a half-game in the East Division.I love how Dambrot has been able to win without bringing in a bunch of junior-college transfers, how this is not a quick-fix program. Darryl Peterson, Rob Preston and Futch are the seniors. Usually, only of them starts.I love how Preston is blooming as a senior, demonstrating that he's far more than just a 6-foot-9 jump shooter. He's playing the best basketball of his career at absolutely the right time.I love how freshman Matt Linhart is developing into a skilled 6-foot-7 forward, capable of starting for the rest of his career.I love how Dambrot made room for local walk-ons Chad Marz (St. Vincent-St. Mary) and Nick Goddard (Wadsworth) on the roster.I love how UA was able to overcome a major knee injury to Jeremiah Wood, the rebounding machine from Central-Hower who played only 10 games last season. He has a medical redshirt this year. He'll have two years left to play beginning next fall.I love how UA basketball looks good again next year with Joyce, Travis, Dials, Linhart, Wood and Cedric Middleton returning -- and playing with extensive experience.I love how UA basketball has become fun again. :macc:
  19. FINALAkron 77BG 62Attendance was 3,800.
  20. Hey Zen, Last week Akron had 4 votes and Can't was misteriously left off of the list!If we beat Nevada, what do you think that would do to our ranking?
  21. ..although he can't hit a softball with crap!!!!
  22. Man if that happened our new rival would be Pitt!!! :macc:
  23. This is all a bunch of crap. The people that responded are the exact people I DON'T WANT THERE! if they are going to complain about the track or about parking or about signs or about tradition......DON'T GO!!!! The people I want there are the one's that go for the love of the game and the team and what they are doing NOW, now what they did in the past or for anticipation of what they will do in the future. Come on, have you been to BG or Can't?!! These ancient gyms still get people (although Can't has an attendance prob as well). I guarantee that if they renovated the place these same people would still not show up. They would have a new excuse. This is really rediculous! The key is THE STUDENTS. Rhoades MUST find a way to get hundreds of them to the games. The students are what gets things going, not the cheerleaders! Think of Duke, NC or even Pitt and their coordinated chants and cheers. This makes the game much more exciting for the FANS as well as the players. Mack if you are reading this: FOCUS ON THE STUDENTS! :macc:
