  1. Hey Guys,I wanted to thank every one for their hard work during the season to this point. I am looking for Zippy pics that any of you may have. I am looking for any pics that were taken with in the last five years for a specail project. Pics could be from any sporting event and could be one's you have taken with your family friends and zippy. If any one can help me out with this can you please email me the pics to erb16@uakron.edu. Please include your name and event if you know it. In the title bar please put Zippy pics. Thank you and Go Zips. If you are a student and want to go to the game this weekend please bring $15 to the union thursday from 12:30 -2:30. This will get you a ride to and from the game and a ticket and a shirt there's only a few seats left so please come to the union early. This is open to all students. Thanks
  2. Ok I know this has been a wild and crazy week for all of us but I am asking a favor from all of you. Iam not just talking the AK-ROWDIES, or the Athletics department Iam talking about everyone and any one who is an AKRON SPORTS FAN. Too often in life we get so very upset at the little things that we take everything we do have for granted. We get to caught up in what we don’t have, rather than what we do have. You know what we have a lot to be thankful about this holiday season. Here are some of those things that I think are amazing in terms of being grateful.1. Zips Basketball we have two teams who rock our socks they are fun to watch. We have seen these teams grow from nothing to something we cannot get enough of. Sure every one hasn’t gotten the memo that these teams are class acts and they are truly missing out. But with a little hope they will find the magic at the jar before it is to late. You have a women's team who has a winning record for the first time in how long. And a coach who has a heart of gold. Iam glad we found her, she is a great fit hear at Akron. As for the men they are showing no fear and let's just say I have a good feeling about Friday. 2. We have one of the longest winning streaks in the nation. That's right friends not every school can say that. Yes that's right hear in AKRON Ohio.3. The Jar is becoming a feared place to play at because the fan's are getting in to the game. I think it is kind of funny people don't want to come to Akron to play against us.4. Each game we are getting stronger and stronger sure it may be taking awhile for every one to get on board but each game we have improved. If we keep going at this pace we will be selling out games by the end of January. I would much rather improve game by game and find out what works step by step rather then have it all at once and never get any better. You got to walk before you can jump, small baby steeps will mean huge impacts latter on in the season.5.We are able to come together and make some kid's Christmas so much brighter because of the bear toss at half time. The goal was 250 bears thanks to you and your efforts there was well over 300 I think the total was in the range of 325 bears. Before today there was 300 sum kids who would of got nothing for Christmas. But you took the time and your hard earned money and made this Christmas a lot brighter for a lot of people. I must say I am very proud of this one. We came together as a giant group for the good of mankind.6. We have a cheer team who is ranked it the top twenty in the nation and a dance team who leaves us wanting more and more. We have found a way to cheer for all of these groups this year. That is a huge step from last year because we were to busy in life to take notice.7. We get to come together for a goal of beating other teams and seeing family and friends at the JAR at least two times a week. How many people are out there only get to see their loved one's maybe once a year. I think we should be blessed about that.8. Sure every thing isn't going to go right all the time but we have people who want to make things right no matter what. Take Mack for example he got a lot of respect from me tonight. What was sitting there waiting for each of the AK-ROWDIES... Yea free pizza and for that I owe you a huge thank you. That was huge and there was student promos that got the crowd more involved. So yes things may not always be right but we have a staff that works hard for every one it's not always going to be 100 percent right but iam willing to take 85 maybe 90 percent that's still passing and passing with class if you ask me. Sure we are not always going to see eye to eye on everything but at least we have someone to push us harder to make us better. So many people in this world desire that and can have find those special people. We are lucky enough to have people like that here in Akron. 9. We have fun at all cost at the end of the day we all come to a game and act silly and crazy but it brings a smile to our face and heart. A smile is worth more to me then a million bucks. So many people are caught up on their self’s that they don’t take the time to let others help them out. The friendships we have all developed because of this is out of this world and I am so blessed to get to know all of you. For me all of you have touched me in a way I will never forget.10. You had to see this one coming We have a great school with great sports teams. I am so thankfully that we don't go to can't state because i would rather be a Zip than a flush any day of the week.So friends I am asking you to stop the call outs and set down the pitch forks. Lets grow together and be blessed that we have the things that we do have rather than the things we don't. We need to work together to be come the strongest school in the nation. I truly think that if we stay positive and suggest things rather then demand things we will reach that goal. Like I said before we all sin we all make mistakes but we need to work together for the good of all of us. Quote of the Week: “If you will call your troubles experiences, and remember that every experience develops some latent force within you, you will grow vigorous and happy, however adverse your circumstances may seem to be.”James Russell MillerInstead of be negative lets be positive about every thing we may encounter in the coming days or weeks sure its going to be tough at times but in the end it will all work out. There's probably 110 million spelling mistakes in this form just goes to show you no one is perfect. With a few trys well come together to get it right.Enough talk let's get ready for Friday!! See You all at the Jar !!!! Go Zips
  3. Ok heres the best thing to do Show up to the game and insure a Zips victory. That way we all win in the end. Like chad said if you are comeing to friday's game send him or I an email saying you will be there. The magic number of AK-ROWDIES is 164. Lets get 200
  4. like i said before this is your guys group iam willing to work and go with what you guys think is right
  5. good call i see booth sides this is your group and I am willing to do what you guys feel is best. Now sould I even drawl up a rowdy news letter if we are going to be there and be quiet?
  6. yes if and only if we show up in the masses tomarrow being an ad and not even being able to fill a student section would look worse then having a half filled one. I know one thing Inorder for anything to work we need AK-ROWDIESfans to show uplike no other.
  7. Wow I am starting to love this, You have a student group and students who have been working endless hours to get students in the stands and how do we get repaid. Yea they take away our seats because that is the cool thing to do these days. Trust me if I know about this move I would have let you know sooner but I just found out tonight at 11:30 pm. No it wasn’t by a phone call from the "higher-ups" it was an im from a friend who read it here on Zips Nation. You would think being the Vp of this group I would know about this. SO what do we do... if we sit up top and band together there they win, that is what they want. Here’s a better idea we bring every AK-ROWDIES member and we show up to the game. They don't think we can get 100 people at the game. What happens when we have all of our people there who want their lower seats? We are a very powerful group. Its time we show it. Trust me if we show up in mass numbers they will respect us more than if we don't show up or sit up top. We will keep on fighting for you at all cost!!!!!!
  8. Ok guys thank you all for you feed back it will be prinnted out and reviewed at Wednesday's 5:00 Pm meeting In tommyEvans Lounge. If any of you would like to come please do. 10. Guys thanks for every thing it does mean a lot. Please contact me if you have anything we could do to make this group better for you. Weare in the process of putting together some cool promonights for you guys to have some fun. It is in the last stage of approvals and changes. We should get the ok to post that with in the comming days. I just want you to know that there is some kool things planned. If everything goes right I am pretty sure you will like what we came up with. The reason you have not heard much on that is due to the fact we don't want to say were going to do somthing then it not work out. That's one thing we don't want to do is make false promises. Thanks for all of your help and keep up the good work.Go Zips,Eric
  11. Dear Members:Hello My Name is Eric Baker I am the vice president of the AK-ROWDIES. I would like to address a few issues so that we as a board can better serve you. First I would like to thank you all for your feed back. It is a very important part of this group and Iam very glad you are using this message board to do so. That is a main reason why this board was made to keep everone one the same page. I am very very thankfull for your feedback. Yes there is and has been some problems out of the gate.Yes it was the first men's basketball game, the first ever official meeting of the AK-ROWDIES and a lot of first time events for this group. No we have not been perfect by any means, in fact Ill be the fist to admit that we have not done everything right. With that said show me a student group who has hit everything right the first time and that group is worth millions. I can not change what has happened in the past but I can work to make this a brighter stronger student group for all of us. I will promise you this, If there is a problemswe will work to try to fix them. I was at the game the other day, but I was running around getting things set up for the rest of the game. I heard what happen but i did not see what happened. Itwould be unfair to you or my board to say who was right who was wrong. When there is problems with this group we are all right and we all all wrong. We don't need to point fingers at each other because that gets us no where. We all need to take responsiblity for this group. It sadness me that we only had around 100 people at this last game, We are a 632 member strong groups and we are only pulling around a 100 people. I dont know if any one was at the games last year but the showing for a team who could be one of the best teams in the nation has been super weak. Who's fault is it.... I don't know and dont care. I feel this is our school and we need to take control of it. We all need to work to get people in the stands. Iam not trying to doge the buttlet of the issues but I feel so very strongly on that. If any one has anyinformation on the person who got booted such as name and email address can you please send it to me. Also if you know anyone who has not been getting the emails could you please email me thouse. I am sorry for the downfalls to this point but we need to move past thesethingsand work together to make this the best student section in the nation. We have weekly meetings in tommy evens lounge on wednesday'sat 5:00 pm if anyone would like to come address any promblems you may have. If any one has any thing thing you would like to address Please email me and I will do my best to get back to you as soon as possible. I will try to keep you guys updated on some of the things we are working on and after the break all members will get the meeting notes. My email is feartherooamerica@yahoo.com or erb16@uakron.edu. Feel free to email me at any point and time durring the season. Good luck on your tests and have a happy holiday season.Go ZIPS,Eric Baker AK-ROWDIES Vice President
  12. AK-ROWDIES you guys and girls are starting to make me super proud. You guys are steeping up your game and this is the first time since I have been at this univesity that THE JAR has been a feared place to play at. From now on let's have every 1 bring a friend that is an AK-ROWDIES member. I have a dream and I think it could be meet. By the end of the season I would like to see both bottom endzone seats filled up at a women's game. You guys know your making it big when the marketing deparment comes down and says the AD wants to hear a special cheer geared towards the person who just fouled out every time. Saturday has a chance to be ahuge huge mildstone in terms of big games. I think we can and will make winston salem state wanna get out of akron the second they step foot in the JAR . In terms of cool promotions for the ROWDIES, I promise you they are coming real soon. I think the board has came up with some fun things to do. Saturday we need everyone at the JAR for the men's game. It is first come first serve in terms of seats. The gates open at six, you guys better be lined up out side and getting loud and ROWDY. Keep up the good work ......... Who knows mabey if you keep turning heads we may be ready to go to ohio and battle the OZONE head to head.Fear the roo and see you soon !!!! Here’s a few important reason’s why you should be there:• The Ladies Need your Support• Coach Kest would be happy• There’s going to be free wings at 6:00 Pm in section 5 where the bleachers are, that’s to the right of the AK-ROWDIES entrance(southwest side of the stadium by the class rooms)• You have a chance to be in the Make it take it Spring Break challenge at half time. This is where lucky fans will get to take a half court shoot and if they make it they will win $300 towards there spring break trip.• If you come to the game, and were unable to come to the meeting on Monday well give you your shirt after the game.So please come join us at 6:00 pm As The AK-ROWDIES and The AKRON ZIPS get ready to take on PITT. Tip off is at 7:00pm sharp we need all of you to be in the AK-ROWDIES section by then. If your friends did not get this email bring them to the game as well. After this week we should have all those problems fixed. Thanks and GO ZIPS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!IT's 4:57 am and can't state still sucks

  18. My my dont post for a few days and people start to worry Well iam glad u did. The reson I have not posted is because of that very reason. Basketball Season is just around the corrner. The rowdies want there shirts, want to know what were doing, will there be cool przes like last year. See my friends there is alot of work that has to happen to make this a great year and inorder for traditon to stay alive i am one of thouse people who is working very hard along with the AK-ROWDIES Board for you. Yes the shirt order is being finallised and will have thouse to you sooner rather than later. Mabey not this Sunday but in the coming days and weeks. Next I know setting is a huge issue, again we are working hard to get that resolved. Prizes well I will say this Iam no Mike Wadell or Mike Thomas or Matt Newhouse who brought so much to the AK-ROWDIES but iam a college kid who loves great prizes and great givieaways just as much as anyone else. With that said The AK-ROWDIES Board members are working hard to get you guys and girls things you want. What are some of thouse things that you want? So I can let the board know and we can try to get them for you? I know you have a lot of questions right now I have a few big meetings coming up tomarrow. This promises to be a fun and exciting event. We hope that you will join us this Thursday October 19th in the student union 7:00 pm for the Homecoming tailgate party.
  20. During half-time of the event, one fan (including students) will have a chance to compete in our “Zips $30,000 Kick for Ka$h” promotions contest.Next, on Friday, October 20th your Zips Women’s soccer and Volleyball teams will return to action. 21. The Zips have had a few bad games, so we need to pack it up and start basketball season. Come on people wake up there is still a lot of ball to be played yet. The Zips have 6 games left that's half a season left but you guys want to put away the grille, pull down the fear the roo flag and go sit inside your house and wait till the Zips Hit the Hardwood. I don't know if last year was a dream but I do believe it took the Zips (who in cause you forgot were the 2005 Mac Champs) till the very last week of the season to win that ring. Do you guys forget where your at? Well let me remind you that you are in Akron,Ohio home of the comeback kids. How many times have you seen the Zips come back when you thought they were done? More than you can remember I am sure. I think it's a sin to put a fork into the Zips and call it a season. We have a chance to go 8-4 on the season and 6-2 in the MAC. Not to mention one of those teams were an ACC team who knocked off the nation's 17 th seed a few weeks after the Zips beat them. How about bowl games--- There were 28 bowl games last year that had 56 different teams playing in them. How many of those teams sold out their bowl ticket allotments? What did you say three and one of those teams were the Akron Zips. You know what, if I were in charge of marketing and finding a team that would make my bowl game look good The Akron Zips would be my top pick. They are a team that is proven that they can make any game fun and exciting and the fans want to come see them. Just because the weather is getting cold doesn't mean you have to be a fair weather fan. I can promise you the fat lady from Can't state isn't singing yet. You better fasten your seatbelt because this season is about to start in high gear. Fear the Roo America
  22. Dear AK-ROWDIES members,Thank you for your support of Zips athletics and the AK-ROWDIES thus far. We hope that classes are going well and everyone is adjusting to campus life. On Wednesday, October 11, the AK-ROWDIES will be holding their first ever Beach Bash in conjunction with the volleyball squad’s match up with Northern Illinois. The first fifty members to come in their best beach gear will be treated to Papa Johns Hawaiian pizza and Pepsi from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the Tommy Evans Lounge prior to the volleyball match. Members will also be entered in a drawing for a prize after the match. Students will also get a chance to sign up for the AK-ROWDIES during this time. New members are $10.00 while old members are FREE. Note that old members must sign up again in order to be a member this year. Have a wonderful week and hopefully we will see you all on Wednesday!GO ZIPS,The AK-ROWDIES Executive Board
  23. Mind you We were one of only three schools who sold out all their tickets for our bowl game. It only takes 6 wins to get a bowl game. There is a new bowl designed for a MAC school this year. The season isn't over............ The Mac has not been won yet Quite saying it has. If you recall last year it come down to the last game of the last day of the season and there was a ton of tie breakers. This is the MAC anything and every thing can and problly will happen. I am also a firm beliver that if you beat cinny next week that says alot about your team. It says you are a powerhouse because you bet NC state North Texas and Cinny who hung with the beast of the best. So zips fans fasten your seat belts were on for along and exciting ride.GO ZIPS!!!!!
  24. I Hope you are coming to the game it is going to be a great one. We need to be louder and prouder then those can't fans. They called you out in their student news paper. Here is what they said"The AK-ROWDIES is a student organization that supports the Akron athletics program. They are the equivalent to Students Creating Ruckus, Energy and Mayhem at Can't State" Time to prove these fools wrong again. Here's the story:Deanna StevensIssue date: 9/29/06 Section: SportsPrintEmail Article Tools Page 1 of 1 Tricia Rosso, sophomore fashion merchandising major, said she will make her first appearance at a Can't State football game Saturday. The reason? To watch the Can't State football team take on Akron in a game that could have major Mid-American Conference implications. But more importantly, Rosso and her dad, an Akron alumnus, are looking forward to the opportunity for bragging rights. She said the rivalry is good for both schools because it gives the students a chance to show school pride."It makes the game more fun for the students," Rosso said. "It gives people a chance to get to dressed up and show school sprit."Freshman finance major Lainie DeLuca said the rivalry was a major reason why she was going to the game."I'm not from around here. I'm from Ann Arbor (Mich.) so it will be interesting to see what everyone does," DeLuca said. But the rivalry and implications for the standings are not important to some Can't State students. As a commuter, coming to campus five days a week is enough, said Colin Roach, junior computer information systems major. But, Roach said he would watch the game on TV if he gets a chance. He added the flushes' success as of late should help avoid another 35-3 result like last season."Can't seems to be playing pretty good against other MAC teams," Roach said. "I think it will be a closer game. Plus, it's at home so that should help."The flushes' return to Dix Stadium also brings the second opportunity for Tailgate Alley.Katie Hale, Student Athletic Advisory Committee chair, said the response for the program was great for the Minnesota game, and with some time to work out some issues, it should be even better tomorrow."We're looking for the same kind of results, if not heightened for the Akron rivalry," Hale said.Against Minnesota, Can't State drew a crowd of more than 20,000. Something new Can't State students can enjoy is a Freshman Advisory Council fundraiser. For 50 cents, attendees can pie Can't State students dressed in Akron attire. Also, Hale said the student tent will be relocated for easier access. The tent will include tables set up with free food and drinks specifically for Can't State students. Parking Services suggests that students going to the game park at a parking lot on campus, and catch a shuttle from there. Summit Street will be closed to all traffic other than the buses from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Students parked at the stadium are able to move their cars to any C-lot on campus starting Thursday evening until Sunday at 11 p.m. The enemy is closer than you thinkCan't State and Akron are about 10 miles apart, making them the closest rivals school in the nation.Akron's proximity also allows for plenty of Zip fans to make their way to Dix Stadium.Eric Baker, president of the AK-ROWDIES, said the Zips will be well represented at the game. "This is and has been one of the biggest rivalries in all of college sports for many years now" Baker said. "The players know that, the coaches know that, and our fans know that. This game has a lot of personal meanings for every one involved.?So just like the game all you can do is expect the unexpected when Saturday rolls around."The AK-ROWDIES is a student organization that supports the Akron athletics program. They are the equivalent to Students Creating Ruckus, Energy and Mayhem at Can't State. They were responsible for the "Trojan switch" at last season's men's basketball game. The Akron fans dressed up like Can't State students and then changed for the first commercial break. This time, the Akron men's basketball team will be able to be included on any plans the organization may have. Akron forward Romeo Travis said the whole team is coming to the game this weekend. He said everyone on Akron's campus is excited to beat Can't State, especially because of the impact it can have on the MAC post season.?"I think this game has huge implications on the MAC championship because we already lost to Central Michigan," said Travis in an e-mail interview.AK-ROWDIES Director Chad Welker said the game is the perfect thing for students to do until other later college football games."Everyone knows Ohio State doesn't play until 8 p.m.," Welker said. "They'll all need something to do until then." But like Can't State, not all Akron students are buying into the hype. Tom "Jamal" Svetlik, Akron University freshman computer engineer major, is not making any special plans to come see the game."I don't know if I'm going," Svetlik said. "I'm sort of a spontaneous person. If someone calls me then I might go." He added that he didn't know much about either team, but he thinks the flushes may pull out the win."I'll go for Can't this year, why not?" Svetlik joked. His brother, Mike Svetlik, junior media production major, also said his priorities weren't with the rivalry. "When I decided to come to college, I wasn't coming for the college life, or the college experience," he said.
