A crime was committed on the campus of Penn State, witnessed by a grad assistant. The grad assistant, not completely trained and educated on proper procedures, reports the crime to his immediate supervisor. Next step - said supervisor calls the police, because this was a CRIME. This was not some stupid NCAA rules violation, and you don't get a free pass because you reported it to the A.D. If the grad assistant had witnessed a theft, someone spray painting the walls, committing vandalism, etc., no one would be questioning what should be done.

I know every word to the alma mater and the fight song -- and I did not go to the University of Akron. The words to the alma mater have always been on the scoreboard for every pregame, both Rubber Bowl and InfoCision. But then, you would have to be there to know that. And to continue..."Waves the gold and blue"

Just heard about this an hour ago from a band member. Apparently the body was found about the same time the band was arriving at the stadium for practice this morning. From what they could tell, the body was in the stands, press box side, 50 yd line.

I'll add my two cents -- born and raised in Uhrichsville, currently live in Dover. Son graduated from Akron, will be starting grad school in the fall, and daugher is a current student. Lots of T-county folks love the Zips!

Listening on 1350 AM and the consensus is that the ref is losing control of the game. Inconsistent calls are causing players to get angry. Apparently what is OK for penn state to do is not OK for Akron to do.

Halftime - Akron 2-0!!

At 43:00 minutes, score still Akron 2-0.

Just saw online story stating that Caleb Porter has signed a new contract and is staying!

UA Unveils New Motivational Poster?
UAbandfan replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
I think these pictures deserve placement on the Hall of Fame thread!By the way, there's a video on Facebook of this being done to the dorm.... -
Another game, another loss, another team member gone for the season.
-
Akron does a short punt, OU fumbles but keeps the ball in Akron territory. Special teams not livin' up to their name tonight.
-
Oh......my.......fumble into the endzone and OU recovers. Rodgers injured on the play ----- Hello, Nicely?
-
Finally ----- Run, Joe, Run!!! Nice to see rushing game working. Now if only they can find the end zone.....

If the rumors are true about Jacq stealing, he faces the possibility of not only permanent suspension from football, but expulsion from the university. Of course, proven illegal drug use warrants the same possible punishments, not to mention possible legal consequences. If he has done something not only against team rules but also against the law, which is what everyone has been suggesting, should we expect nothing less than expulsion and legal consequences?

Seriously - over $60 million dollars and no one thought to ask, "Hey, how will the band get from the stands to the field?" That's funny!
-
I can't speak of the other instruments, but the band got Yamaha brass sousaphones. Unless they got a deal for buying in bulk, they cost between $5600 -$6400 each. Some serious money spent! Can't wait to see them gleaming on the field!

Thanks for the link to the pictures. I didn't take a camera because it was so damn cold. All four of my family was there through the whole game - son was in the band. We felt that if he had to be there in nothing more than a band uniform and sad little coat and those flimsy band shoes, we could be there with every article of clothing we owned! I remember halftime (of course, I do!) when someone proposed marriage on the field. I have often wondered if he had to convince her to stay until halftime! While the band played, valves were freezing and fewer and fewer instruments were working by the end of the performance. I also remember the moan coming from the home crowd as the can't state majorettes removed their coats for their performance - crazy college kids!

Leave it to the MAC to screw themselves out of TV coverage. I am unable to make it to Cleveland, and don't get the digital channels. Thank God for Steve French -- he's more entertaining anyway!

Regarding the correct words for the fight song - the band sings the old version where as the UofA promotes the newer version. "Zzzip! Zip go the Zippers" and saying "Akron U" is the older version. "Zzzip! Zip go the Zips" and saying "Akron true" is the newer, maybe politically correct (?), version. Saying one is right and one is wrong is much more confusing, however. I attended the university's 8th annual Akron Traditions where they welcomed new students at EJ Thomas Hall in August 2007, and in the program that was handed out they included the words to the The Akron Blue and Gold, Win for Akron and The Alma Mater. Interestingly enough, they used the older version of The Akron Blue and Gold that the band sings. So really, which one does the UofA want us to sing?? Personally, I like the timing better with the version the band sings, and obviously, I'm only here for the band, so that's the way I always sing it. No matter which way you prefer, it's all about singing from the top of the lungs like you mean it everytime it's played!!!

Now that we don't have the distraction of the disappointment that was Akron Football '07, we can concentrate on soccer, basketball, and making sure Zippy wins out!! Looks like our opponents' fans aren't taking the weekend off, and we can't afford to, either. VOTE!!!

The band will be there!!
-
You know I'LL be there!! For anyone who has not gone - you really get the opportunity to hear how amazing the marching band sounds. I'd put them up against many other university concert bands. And speaking of the concert and symphonic bands - they sound amazing! I have heard them play pieces that we have recordings of by famous organizations such as the Boston Pops, and could not tell the difference!

In reference to learning the fight song -- there are the "UofA sanctioned" words, and the original (and better) words. However, I noticed that at the freshman welcoming festivites at EJThomas, the brochure they handed out used the original version. Could it be that those in power have realized the error of their ways? Let's hope so!
