Free throw shooting killed us. We left points on the court that we could have had. If we made all of our free throws, we would have been chanting "I believe that we have won" with a few minutes left in the game. That last miss was the real killer. Make it, we go up by 3 and get another shot and a chance to ice it with a 4-point lead. Instead, the ball goes to them. The clock not starting correctly didn't help either, and correcting that is like unringing a bell. I don't believe they could have ruled that had the clock started correctly, the shot would have been put up after time should have expired, because Miami could claim that they had their eyes on the clock and based their play on what the clock said. The clock screwup sucks as much as Can't does, but we can't blame it entirely. FT shooting killed us, which is too bad because Miami won't represent the MAC well--they'll go one and done.Might we get a home NIT game? At least one?

They got more Akron than they could handle. For the third time this season.

Dials! Dials!

If symptoms persist, contact your doctor. :PWe should get another day of good coverage with tonight's win.

Not really traveling. What a BS call.

a few hours ago on some expressway near Akron. Couldn't miss the license plate. :)The other night on the way home, someone tooted their horn and waved at me....I suppose it could be due to my license plate. I wore the license plate to a couple games...even got on TV with the announcers mentioning the AK-Rowdies in the context of the license plate. ;)I would have gotten a UA logo plate, but all the cool ones were taken.

I figured there'd be no footage since they apparently didn't have any (and WEWS wouldn't provide it to WKYC), but a mention of the score last night and/or Romeo and Dru would have been cool. At least they mentioned the viewer feedback, acknowledging on-air that UA does have fans....in case the Can't people might have gotten another impression.
-
He just mentioned us, the passionate Akron fans who were emailing him about the clips they didn't have.
-
Yep....a one-sentence mention at the toss would have been nice. I believe that the Akron-Canton News operation is very dependent on WKYC's Cleveland operations; the sports and weather are done in Cleveland during the weeknight newscasts with the news anchor actually in Akron, and they don't have a weekend newscast based here. So it wouldn't be surprising that they might need to send a camera from Cleveland. It would have been nice if channel 23 had remained its own station way back when, and maybe Akron-Canton could have become its own TV market. Instead, WAKC was the stepchild ABC station that WEWS always wanted to go away since it was siphoning viewers, and it eventually went away as a true local station.I like to watch all of the stations to get a balance. Each of the stations has up and down sides. 19 sometimes is more sizzle than steak, but every station runs tabloidy stuff and sells out for ratings from time to time. Sports Tonight just started....hope to see some mention of the Zips.
-
He didn't say how they provided them, just that they provided them. The footage, filmed entirely from one end of the court at the baseline, somehow didn't appear to be from a live broadcast but seemed to possibly be home cooked.I'm not super loyal to any one station but 5 and 19 do seem to show more from all the teams. The Akron-Canton news on TWC 23 shows more Zips stuff but on a weekend it's not on. I had 3 on because I was waiting for SNL to come on and I didn't want to forget what channel I was on--sometimes I've left it on 5 or 19 forgetting to switch to 3 for SNL.

Ditto for me....don't know what could be done to get people to care. The only thing I am sure of is that it's very frustrating....

I've been at the north end several times this season and there are just some folks who sit there (literally sit) who just won't get into it regardless of how the die-hards try to get them going. Disappointing, but true. I don't think you can fault the die-hards there. The least the folks at the north end who don't want to be involved could do is at least stand up or try to look involved some of the time. Can't make them do it though--have to make them want to do it.

You can doubt it, but Andy Baskin told me (and I quote) that he had Can't Highlights "because Ohio University provided them." According to Andy, "Ohio provides highlights because they are not really close to any TV markets." I went to grad school at Purdue and for non-televised football games (usually nonconference early-season games), the local TV station would sometimes air clips filmed by Purdue itself, with the onscreen credit "Courtesy: Purdue Jumbotron" or something like that. So I don't find it really suspicious that OU would have provided highlights to WKYC (or any other station).
-
Heard back from Andy Baskin, which was nice of him. He says that OU provided the highlights of the game, which is why he showed anything from that game. Our score was in the ticker, but I wish the win could have at least been mentioned in the toss back to the anchors. "And, by the way, Scott and Lydia, the Akron Zips won tonight and stayed atop the MAC East tied with Can't--details on wkyc.com." Something fast like that just to acknowledge our existence. The ice storm did take up more of the newscast than a usual night so some sports time was excised, but still--don't mention Can't if you don't also mention UA. :)That makes me wonder....did UA offer highlights of the game to any stations? Or could they not do so because a station (WEWS) was already there and had their own video? If it turns out that UA could be providing video to the news outlets and isn't, resulting in us not being covered, then UA would be the problem here more than the station itself.Skip-zip is correct; the Zips are really the ones atop the division when head-to-head is concerned. The statement that Can't stayed atop the division last night with their win really irked me.

I agree, they shouldn't be kicked out, with the attendance what it was in the north end section, so at least the seats are occupied, but it's too bad that the folks who go down there don't get more into it. It's a bad situation, and what's sad is that some people just won't get into it at all even when they're courtside. I'm not sure how that could be. I'm mainly frustrated and can't think of a good answer to the problem.I was at that end for several games and I was surprised at how some people just went down there to hang out and chit-chat and not pay attention to the game or participate at all. Why come to the game if you're not going to participate? I actually saw a couple people who seemed annoyed with me because while I was in my sling and splint for a month and a half I couldn't clap so I'd bang the seat bottom against the seat back with my good arm. The annoyed guys showed up late, sat down and didn't participate, and then seemed really peeved that I was banging the seat. Needless to say, they left early in the second half as well. <groan>

I sent an email just now. The comment about Can't being atop the MAC East really annoyed me. I suppose it's technically correct, but he couldn't even mention that they're tied with us? Did he even know?
-
You mean Z-fense. :DIt is disappointing that so many folks down there were sitting, but it seems like that at every game. I've been at both ends and the south end is definitely more lively and only sits at halftime. Of course, not all in the north end are Rowdies members--the folks who haven't signed the contract might not know about the expectation to stand and be rowdy. The folks in the t-shirts should have known better. It projects a much better image if folks are all standing.I wish the band would have saved Apache for a full timeout tonight. It's always more fun to get two rounds of the chorus.

Highlights of the Can't game from Athens, but not a peep about our game. They even mentioned that Can't's win allowed them "to remain atop the MAC East". Never mind that UA's in first place too......Grr.....WKYC was sure to show a bunch of Buckeye basketball stuff though, including comments from Thad Matta. They couldn't even mention our game in the toss back to the anchors? Do we exist? Bleah! At least WEWS was there. Their cameraman even taped the AirTran ticket halfcourt shot attempts.
-
LOL....I was upstairs (but in sight of the game) for the first half selling programs and soliciting United Way donations and watched as person after person tried to use that water fountain near the southeast corner that doesn't work. One of them even said that they bet it's so people have to buy bottles for $3. :PEspecially for the last games of the season, it would be cool to have bottles of water. Maybe sponsor Giant Eagle can step up as a sponsor and provide them? Poor Chad losing his voice...it was kinda funny but kinda sad too.

A 31-point win and just one point for Bubba!!! YESSSSS!!!I loved the "Bubba has one point" chant.
-
It would be great if Bubba went scoreless tonight.....

I'm sure the league office would cooperate considering the weather and the fact that OU has to travel as well. Why not play Wednesday, for example? I wonder if as conditions worsened during the afternoon, the athletic department considered that it might be ill-advised to encourage people to come to the game anyway, even though law enforcement was asking people to stay off the roads unless it was an emergency. Practically speaking, OU forced the issue by arriving on Monday If they're already here, why not stay until Wednesday at this point? The cynic in me thinks that UA's probably more than happy to take the money from people like you and me who've already paid for the tickets and get the game over with. Anyway about tonight, the upper stands are nearly empty....I wonder if they actually moved people down to the lower seats, especially on the side the camera sees? Would they actually do that?Nice to see Bubba getting an earful. Glad OU's having FT trouble as well.

and off to a good start.Would have liked to have gone, but my street in Fairlawn is impassable....can't get to I-77. Got to say, it's pretty reckless to be holding the game and encouraging people to attend. Why didn't they postpone it to Wednesday? Sad that OU was able to force the game to be played tonight, probably expecting there to be no Zips fans, and sad that UA let it happen and happily will take everyone's ticket money when the sheriff's office is telling people not to travel. As long as we win, it'll backfire on OU anyway.
-
I'll try to go, but my window in KNCL faces out toward downtown and the streets I can see look bad. 77 this morning coming from Fairlawn was not great either, and that was with only a little snow so far. Mentioning the TV broadcast is probably a good thing at least from the standpoint of not telling people that if they want to see the game, they'll have to come in person. Playing devil's advocate: OU coming up yesterday is weird. How much school are they going to miss? Their being in town basically forced the game to be played, regardless of conditions. (Governor Strickland and ODOT are pleading with people to go home and stay there, but the #1 reason for not delaying the game by even 24 or 48 hours is that OU's here already.) The attendance will probably be very, very low, which is bad for the Zips but probably means that most folks are heeding the warnings and just avoiding trouble on the road.

Hopefully the 972-SNOW line will make it clear that the game is on. Fwiw, the 972-SNOW still has the 6AM update posted, saying everything is open! How long does it take them to update that thing?!?!? The email from the Dean's office is stamped 11:17AM.
