  1. The "left-right-left-right-sit down!" for the opposing pitcher being pulled was hillarious. That could be obnoxiously fun! Hope we can continue that. (I wish I could have made the games last weekend, but it didn't work out....the weekday games are actually easier for me!)Btw, it was a nice win for the Zips as well.
  2. How about an all game show theme halftime? The old 70s Card Sharks/Double Dare theme is something that I believe has been arranged for marching bands before, and there are others like Jokers Wild, Price Is Right, or the old To Tell the Truth that could be good too.Just a crazy idea....
  3. You'll be in Chicago? Me too!I was hoping it would be later in the week, like Wednesday when I get back. But no luck....I hope the attendance is good. The team deserves it.
  4. Going to have to get Pluto's help with this as well as that of the TV stations. With the coaches leaving for the Final Four the middle of the week, it had to be early in the week. But Monday right after spring break is not ideal. It would have probably been better to have it the following week than to have it on this coming Monday. But at least the team will have a chance to go out on a high note and the fans will have a chance to thank the team for a great season.
  5. I wouldn't say that the OP should be accused of saying soccer is not a major sport. In the reality of college sports, football and basketball are the biggies. Everything else seems to get short shrift in terms of attention as well as support. Rln's statement that the soccer snubs went without much reaction because soccer isn't perceived as a major sport are not too inaccurate. There isn't an hour-long selection show on CBS or a Capital One Bowl Week for soccer, regardless of the fact that the student-athletes in the "minor" sports work just as hard representing the university as those in the "major" sports. It's sad but it's the reality...
  6. funny how anti-trust laws never come into play. It's because the NCAA is "non-profit".....yeah, something like that.
  7. I think this issue comes up on lots of sports discussion boards. The team should definitely focus on next year. Do the fans have to do so also? Don't places like this exist for discussion of exactly the type of thing in this thread? I guess my question is who is "we" in "we could just focus on winning the MAC Title next year"? What can we on this board do focus on winning the MAC title next year? Not being a contrarian or jerk, just expressing my opinion. I believe that what the team is doing and what its fans are doing don't have to be the same.
  8. BTW...Since the NCAA runs both the NCAA and NIT now, I meant the NCAA as a whole (either tourney). But, CK's response was what I was really expecting.Thanks. To me, "NCAA invitation" sounded like the 65-team tournament, not both. The NCAA owning the NIT is a bad thing. Too monopolistic. How about a simple 26 with the ribbon logo?
  9. The NCAA tournament isn't the issue really.....it's the NIT. The pass-up by the NCAAs was somewhat explicable; the NIT snub was inexplicable. I've let the NCAA thing go. The NIT snub still hurts.
  10. Can't we use this year's frustration to fuel next year's fire? The fans don't have to forget the snub and think only about next year--that's for the people who are actually playing the game to do.
  11. Might be able to get it for free....if it's being shown. http://www.ncaasports.com/mmod"VIP access" signup ended yesterday, but apparently you can still sign up.
  12. Hear hear! Preach it!Well said! Thanks to Coach Dambrot for a great season, and looking forward to more great things.
  13. Indeed. Isn't it way overkill to have ALL TWELVE teams in the tournament? Doesn't the regular season mean anything?
  14. Believe it or not...."Boom Goes the Dynamite" is a category on Jeopardy! right now.
  15. They're not so much free as paid for already. The NYT doesn't donat them--UA buys them in bulk basically.
  16. We did go from a "bubble" team to being not invited at all. It's not that hard to believe.Purdue is a 9 seed. They were a bubble team too, and are a 9. A 10 for us isn't that incredible considering they were anticipating 27 wins in that scenario. The NCAA selection/seeding versus NIT seeding is two issues. It's not unbelievable to me that the NCAA committee might have seeded us a 10, while the old fogies at the NIT decided that they wouldn't mind coaching their team against Akron, right after mixing up some Metamucil.
  17. If there is a Zips Live, they might need to move it from the Winking Lizard in Fairlawn to a hangar at the Akron-Canton Airport to accommodate all the people who'd want to be there. :PI do hope we hear something from Mack and KD sometime. Comments from the past 2 days have been worrisome....
  18. I had a friend tell me that he heard laing on the radio saying that the committee had akron penciled into a "very respectable seed" before the loss to miami. So we went from being a very respectable seed to not even being in the NIT by virtue of a clock operator's screwup, a conference that's too cheap to get timing operated by the officials on the court, and a miracle bank shot? It just makes no sense. It's more evidence that the NIT committee knew nothing about what they were doing. "What team would we least want to play against".....what a load of crap.Like uakronkid says, if the NCAA is selecting teams based on money, then it's time for them to have their nonprofit status stripped. They'd think twice about that, for sure.....
  19. I have the same concern as Captain Kangaroo.....think that Boyages might have said something that offended members of the NIT committee? He sounds like a loose cannon....something we don't need in a conference office.
  20. Watching WEWS right now, they show the Akron Magnetic Boundary (what Mark Johnson calls a very deep fault, but Dick Goddard on WJW said it isn't really a fault). The Ohio Seismic Network rep says the epicenter was probably closer to SE of Twinsburg, which would be right along that boundary. Not surprisingly, that boundary goes through Fairlawn. No wonder I felt it......
  21. Do we just take it from the NCAA/NIT and say "oh, thank you....may we please have some more?"Is it being a sore loser to do anything to make it known that we're not happy with being screwed? Sore losers whine when they legitimately lose. We didn't legitimately lose a NIT berth; we were screwed out of it. Just look at the RPIs.
  22. Shortly after 7:00. Felt a light rumble in Fairlawn. Thought it might have been a heavy truck on Market Street or something. Turns out it was a 3.6 earthquake centered north of Ravenna, 3 miles under the surface of the earth!
  23. Bored? I'd be winded!
  24. They wern't stripped of it. There were no recruiting violations done with that team. The only hting they got O'brien on was giving money to a recruit that did not come to Ohio State. The final 4 appereance is leit, and is still celebrated Not according to any source I can find. The NCAA required tOSU to remove any reference to that Final Four appearance, including removing the banner. Fans can still celebrate it, but their appearance was stricken from the records. Technically, they never played in the Final Four that year. And btw, if saying the conference is a joke is ignorant then I want to be ignorant too.
  25. I agree that we can't change the NIT selection by a bracket-burning, but it would be a visible show of our support for the team, and could get some media attention, hopefully getting more people aware of the situation. We can both support the team person-to-person AND burn brackets to get attention for the cause--it's not either/or.
