  1. Who would have thought that the first WCAL team to win a state title would be Norwayne? Figured Waynedale, Dalton, and yes even Smithville (Waynedale grad so that hurt to say) are historically the flag ship teams and places like Norwayne are just there to fill the conference. For those of you that are fans of the WCAL I hear my Golden Bears are gonna be a team to watch over these next few years. This years eighth grade class has been undefeated throughout Junior High and the Waynedale coach (a grad of not only Waynedale but also our Universirty of Akron) Matt Zuercher is very excited to work with them.

Just out of curiosity do any of you remember watching Matt Zuercher play? he was here slightly before my time and I am curious to hear the thoughts of people who watched him at the college level.

  2. Jim Tressel is a huge Buckeye homer, but we were considering him for the head job, where he would populate the staff (and the stands) with even more huge Buckeye homers.

We need somebody on the sidelines that can create some excitement for Joe Akron. Somebody that you tell them about and they go "Oh yeah! I know who that is. How's he doing there?"

To be fair there was no chance of Tressel ever coaching Akron. It was more of wishful thinking, and when I said that last week everyone flipped out and didn't believe me. Well...

But LeCharles doesn't sit well with me. I was happy when the Browns picked him up, but there were plenty of things that have happened since I don't agree with.

Just the fact he's an OSU fan or do you have an actual legit reason?

  3. If you report anything that borders on realism you get called a troll. Sweet.

This has nothing to do with realism. There are several people who have shared the idea of this not being realistic, but they've done it without saying things like "we don't deserve Tressel"

  4. I'm happy to finally see our University not settling for second best. They tossed their hat in and went all out. Turns out we were right about all the talk and had every reason to get excited. Those puffing out your chests and bragging about how they new JT wasn't coming to Akron can go ahead and get over yourselves. At least we had something to get excited about and enjoyed doing it.

Those of you getting short with JT need to grow up a little bit. We tried, he said no, now we move on.

I think the thing that upset me about all the naysayers was the idea they had that we didn't deserve a Jim Tressel. Most of the naysayers on this board didn't have that attitude, but you found it with ease if you looked elsewhere.

What's the point about getting excited about something that never had a chance at happening?

It's not about deserving Tressel. It's about it being impossible to get that kind of name at Akron. If you want to waste your time going after coaches that don't want to come here fine. I'm glad Tressel is an adviser on this.

Do we deserve a Tressel? NO! The MAC is at the bottom of FBS football. We pay $300,000 for our coach where the average in the MAC is $478,000. The national average is $1.38 million. We're also coming off of back to back 1-11 seasons. So no, we don't deserve Tressel, who while at OSU was one of the top 5 coaches in the entire country.

If you can't get behind this then you need to go ahead and GTFO. Yes, we deserve a Tressel. This University deserves the absolute best and I can't stand the people who think otherwise. If you are going to be one of those people who look at Akron as a second rate institute then I have no use for you and you might as well go ahead and go back to being one of the ZN.o members who read and keep quiet.

  6. hey guys, first post here. ive been reading this thread and wanted to give you a heads up on what i know.

my dads girlfriend works for akron, used to chat it up with Ianello, here's stuff from some pretty reliable sources.

i can confirm that tressel was at akron on tuesday because of the head coaching job.

i do not know how the meeting was, if a deal was offered, if he wants to coach, etc. but she said something that got me pretty excited.

she said that akron is going to really make a push for the show cause rule. now when she said that, i figured that didnt mean much at first. but apparently we're very excited about the opportunity to have a chance with him and we're apparently going all out for him. obviously we're going to push hard for the show cause rule. so it sounds like they're a little deeper in conversations then we think...

what i guy out of all of this is that he was at akron, visited, talked about the job opening and the show cause rule. not sure what it means, but sounds very good.

and it also may be in fact rumor. the only fact out of this is that tressel was at akron on tuesday. ill update as much as i can as soon as i find out more.

if we get him, i see :champs: ... oh, and :screwks:

    You're just a tad late.

  7. Ok, I can dig the kid going out with some friends and knocking back a few (honestly who amoungst us didn't drink under age) But to roll the dice doing it some place like the valley is stupid. Whats even more stupid is ganging up on a DJ after one of your friends decided to screw with his equipment (no doubt ranging in the thousands of $'s) If you're in college and want to get drunk go to a friends house, if you feel like taking the risk and going out then don't be stupid and keep your head down especially in the valley where they have police on stand by. It amazes me how little value these "student" athletes put on their free education.

  8. Don't know if he posted it here or not, but a trusted source with very high connections at UA just told me that Tressel and another coach both turned down the job yesterday. Obviously, I don't *want* to believe the report, but he sincerely believes it's accurate.

I can live with JT turning down the job. What I couldn't live with would have been finding out that UA never even tossed in their hat.

  9. To elaborate on the post I posted on here about 10 minutes ago(last post on page 10), I really think it could be a possibility. Just so everyone doesn't have to go back to it, one of my sources said this:

"If Tressel comes to Akron, _____ ______ will be coming to Akron as part of his staff as well."

He asked me to leave the name out, so I'm not going to say it now. However, it is one of the candidates that have been mentioned already. So we have Tressel for a year or two just for publicity, and he may not coach much during that stretch because of the "show-cause". In case of Tressel hiring, sales go up, tickets go up, and everything else goes up for the football program in numbers and revenue. Tressel leaves after a couple years, and this person on his staff takes over. When this person takes over, people will forget his name from recent endeavors, and the program will be in decent shape when he takes over as in recruiting and running the program.

This is how I took it from my source. Hopefully, this is not the way my source was hoping I would interpret it without them telling me. I guess only time will tell...

Ok, I can't help but bite. This does make some sense. If Tressel comes back he will have to face some sort of punishment (making him less attractive to some bigger schools. Lets say he signs on to Akron for 2 years and brings this mystery person with him. He gets his suspension out of the way here, helps build the program and teach Mr. Mystery the ropes for those 2 years and then is all of a sudden more attractive to bigger programs since his suspension is over. We get better attendance, recruits and our ship straightened and he gets his slate cleaned. Sounds like a win win if true. BUT!!! this is all speculation from a guy sitting behind his lap top trying to put the puzzle together.

  10. This is off topic, but the kid in the speedo is an embarrassment. Please, someone, tell him to stop.

    +1

I'm just gonna sit back and wait for this all to sort it's self out. We can speculate, debate, and throw out "Sources" all we want but fact of the matter is no one is gonna know for sure until it happens.

  11. How many MAC teams have coaches as talented and as prestigious as Jim Tressel?

It doesn't matter what you have done, it only matters what you will do. Tressel has no history of success beyond lying and cheating. Where is the evidence that lacking lying and cheating he will win at Akron?

Again, he did NOTHING that had an impact on th game. Kids sold their personnal stuff and got other free things from people outside of the program (as is pretty much tradition at every other program in the country) NOTHING, I repeat, NOTHING JT did had any effect on the game it's self. He didn't pay any kid to come to OSU, he didn't shoot kids up with roids, he didn't steal the other teams playbook, he didn't film the other teams practice.

  12. I'm hanging on the word "RELEASED" in that rumor.

I'm HOPING that means "You walk away with your two years of pay and no more; we release you from a 3-year assignment elsewhere within the University (purgatory)."

Both parties shake hands and walk away from each other.

  13. We're going to go 0-12 this year. Ianello needs to be fired NOW. He should've never been hired in the first place, and many on this board including myself saw this bullshit coming. Tom Wistrill has been nothing but a complete FUCK UP as AD and he needs to go too. Our program is officially in the shitter gentlemen, and that's a real shame considering all the money that's been poured into it. Incompetance reigns supreme. Let's hire a sorry coach from a losing program because he can recruit.... great. This is what you get when you hire losers to take over losing programs. I have never been so embarrassed to be a football alumni in my life.

You are an IDIOT! EVERYONE who agrees are IDIOTS as well! You all are the type of fans that will only be satisfied . First you called for JD's head and you IDIOTS got your wish. Now 2 games in your calling for Coach I's head?? You're a joke, and a complete IDIOT, as a fan you are worthless and the University of Akron would be better off if you never came back to another sporting event! 90% of the people on the board know absolutely nothing about football or the inter-workings of a division 1 program. Yes that includes Captain K I am sick of reading all of the bs on this board. I am going to sit down tonight and school you idiots!

Look at this response to InTheZone's original post.

I haven't seen this guy around since.

I still can't believe ITZ was so spot on right out of the gate. I'm truly impressed.

Moral of the story, Don't screw with ITZ. People who do tend to go missing.
