  6. Game-winning TD ... around 1:25:25 and beyond
  7. Many good memories; this rises to the top for me…
  8. I can’t help but post this close 2nd. Not one specific game but several games over a weekend in the DC area. sep 4, 2015 Zips defeat Georgetown 1-0 at Georgetown. I immediately get a cab following the game and go across town to RFK Stadium to watch the USMNT, featuring RB, former Zip, DeAndre Yedlin defeat Panama in the Gold Cup. sep 7, 2015 Zips defeat the Maryland Terrapins 3-2 at Maryland. Best Zips weekend I’ve ever had other than the 2010 College Cup.
  9. Thanks @Reslife4Life and Happy Thanksgiving 🦃. For me, nothing compares to the 2010 NCAA D1 Men’s Soccer Championship game at UC Santa Barbara. I was sick with food poisoning throughout the game until Scotty Caldwell scored, and the Zips survived a 2 minute barrage in the final minutes and went on to win the title. In addition to Scotty’s rebound goal, I vividly recall David Meves’ foot save and Chad Barson’s shin save, Caleb Porter yelling “They’re wilting” in the waning minutes, and Gaucho fans celebrating with the AK Rowdies. Not only did the Zips win the title, but doing so against mob-funded Louisville and former Zips HC Ken Lolla was the best. My food poisoning went away until later at my hotel near LAX.
  10. I like the Catamounts but have to cheer for San Diego led by Aodhan Quinn’s father, Brian, in the sweet 16. family
  11. Thanks Zips for a great run in 2024. Best wishes to our seniors...Beto, Emil, Victor, Malik, Dyson, Wan Kuzri, and Jonas!!!
  12. …and we got all the yellow cards. Great reffing if you’re IU.
  13. Too much air ball. Gotta get the ball on the ground.
  14. About a month ago, Chad Welker talks with Mitch Budler…
  15. Following the 1-0 Zips win v IU on 9/7/2012, back in the lobby of the Zips hotel, after I congratulated him and team, Caleb Porter smiled and told me that there was nothing better than beating your friends. 😃
  16. Thanks for the history. Notable is that Caleb Porter never lost only once to his Alma Mater. [CP never lost to IU with Jared Embick on his staff.] EDIT - CORRECTION, my brain was off by a year when I posted my original, now edited, statement above. As I recall, 2006 was CP's 1st year as Zips Head Coach. Zips lost to IU that year, but never thereafter during CP's tenure. Still a great accomplishment once he started making his mark on Zips Men's Soccer. (sorry for my original misstatement above.)
  17. Andrew Samuels, Princeton GK, certainly lived up to his hype. Wow.
  18. @72Roo @Hilltopper what you say may be true, but part of an AD's job is not only connecting with Deep pocket and other wealthier donors but also with his employees, the general alumni / fan base and student athletes. He did little of that. Only once when he and I talked near the end of his time at UA did he ever give credit to his staff for any of the good work "he" had done. "Some say he was all about himself. I can see that, but if he was making athletics better I feel some leaders are like that." Leaders are NOT like that. Leaders empower, enable, and give credit to their team whom they entrust to do the job. Leaders inspire their team. Charles is NOT a leader.
  19. WOW...THANKS @TennZip. Brought tears to my eyes to watch that. Fantastic team who deserved better than to have a home NCAA Tournament game taken away from them. 2008 could easily have been the first Zips' appearance in the College Cup since 1986.
  20. Yeah, Zips Men's Soccer was nothing until Chuckles came to Akron. 😴 Ofc, he told me. 💤
  21. Adding insult to injury, Chuckles replaced the fence coverings in our soccer stadium, and not one of the logos has a star for our national championship. Add to it the small print of all of our NCAA Tournament appearances to squeeze them all into a small section. Sucks to not properly advertise our successes to visitors and viewers.
