  1. Adding pounds is great, so long as it doesn't detract from his agility. I would rather have a thinner center that can run with the guards than a lumbering behemoth that is only at the half-court line by the time the rest of the team is in position.
  2. Lindy's preseason MAC rankings Athlon preseason MAC rankings Glad to see that we have no playmakers on either side of the ball.
  3. Memorial is still standing. Presumably it's getting dismantled from the inside right now. There is lots of digging going on around it, most likely taking care of the pipes and underground stuff that runs through the building. Right now, I think they're waiting for the current phase of campus construction (fabrication facility, exchange parking deck, soccer stadium, and Spicer dorms, psychology archives, all to be completed by late August) to be complete before starting a new round (Memorial demolition and replacement with college of education, corrosion engineering facility, baseball stadium, lot 9 replaced by dorms, buying the Wonderbread factory).
  4. They laid down about 2/3 of the turf.
  5. While one staple of student dining has closed, another just opened. Penn Station has officially opened on campus, across the street from McDonalds in the old Hungry Howie's building. That place is going to turn into a pre-football-game ritual for me.
  6. The hotel brand isn't as important to individual and family travelers, as they are free to stay wherever they think is best for them. It's hugely important for businesses, though, who often have contracts with specific chains to hold conferences and events in. About the old buildings, I know that the Kaiser Building got a major grant for renovations recently.
  7. Country Diner on Market Street closes. It was open 24 hours a day, across from City Hospital. Lots of UA students used to eat there, since hardly anything else around campus is open past 8:00 PM.
  8. Having a recognizable brand on the hotel is important for drawing in out-of-town visitors. I am curoius what other hotel the Don has in mind.
  9. Still, the design appears to have changed a bit compared to the original renderings. Can't wait to check it out on August 13th, when the lady Zips get to open the new stadium against Wright State.
  10. I'm glad to be wrong about the amount of support they got.
  11. Too late for that.
  12. OLB Donnie Simmons verbals to Syracuse.
  13. Unless that QB sees more playing time elsewhere because he suspects the position could be locked down for 3 years. Buffalo now has 4 QBs coming in the class of 2010, and Licata is their first of 2011.
  14. QB Reilly O'Toole verbals to Illinois.
  15. QB Joe Licata verbals to Buffalo. Never good to lose a recruiting battle to a divisional rival.
  16. It is considered downtown. It's just a district of downtown, like the warehouse district is in Cleveland.
  17. Varsity letters says we have offered DT Dylan Brumbaugh frmo Green HS while at OSU's camp.
  18. Easy. I concluded the exact same thing about most of the teams on our schedule.
  19. Offer: CB Ian Wells
  20. New offer: LB Jawan Poole Also offered WR Jason Wilson, even though he has verballed to CMU.
  21. I think next season he absolutely has to make it. This season I would give him a bit more leniency since the roster turnover is so great. He needs to be good this season, no doubt, because you can't make such drastic changes without getting results, but not making the tournament is ok as long as we get some good wins and don't screw up against any weaker teams (but if we do that we're at least on the bubble for the tournament anyway).

  23. This year will be tricky to predict. Nobody knows how the new offense and defense will take hold with the players, nobody knows if the new coaching staff has any idea what they're doing, and then there's the usual MAC weirdness where great teams become terrible overnight and bad teams suddenly go bowling. If things go well, I think we'll beat one of the BCS teams on the schedule. We'll beat Gardner-Webb no matter how poorly things go. Then the MAC portion of the schedule happens. NIU will be good, very good, so I'll say we lose to them. We will beat Can't. For some reason, we always give Ohio problems, but I don't see us winning in Athens without a little luck. We should beat Western at home, lose to Temple on the road, beat Ball State, Miami, and Buffalo. A good season gets us 8-4 with losses to two BCS teams, NIU, and Temple. A poor season gets us 3-9 beating GW, Can't, and Buffalo. Most likely we'll go 5-7 with one of those "miracle ending" wins that we always seem to pull off once a year.
