  1. Nate hit a three. Maybe he's found his shot.
  2. What's with the weird fouls? They're calling them inconsistently on both teams.Zips are up 30-26.
  3. Akron down 21-20. Wood has half our points. We should go for the strong inside game with Bardo and Wood until we can find the three-point shot.
  4. McNeese hits a three!
  5. This is definitely a winnable game. If only they stop the turnovers and find a person who can hit a three. Maybe Goddard can come in and give them a spark?
  6. We really need to get those threes to fall.
  7. Wood is clearly dominant. Lets just hope he can inspire the rest of the team.
  8. The refs are blowing whistles left and right on phantom calls on both teams.
  9. Turnovers aboud so far. Akron up 6-4 with 15:58 to go in the 1st half. It's hard to get a read as to which team is playing better.
  10. I heard lots of bad things about that scrimmage. Nothing absolute, but it is likely that we got destroyed against them from what I have heard. Good thing it didn't count. Those scrimmages are probably the best thing for the team. Closed to media and fans, they are strictly for the coaches and teams to analyze to see what works and what doesn't, without riuning the season with a loss.It beats a seconf game against a D-II, although Walsh is certainly a better team than Tiffin, and provides a better scrimmage.
  11. That was actually what I was doing. It's easier to keep track of them, and it doesn't take as long to re-register them with a copy+paste thing. It's actually faster to register them that way than to come up with a unique name each time I vote again, and then write it down to remember for later. I use a combination of names, each with numbers after them. They only delete a few of the names at a time and the other ones are intact.
  12. I'll be firing up the voting later on this evening. After I re-register all my deleted screen names. Again.
  13. Here's the catch: If we win every game with our current schedule and lose in the MAC championship they'll say our SOS is too low. If we played a bunch of top-25 teams in place of teams like Binghamton and those North Carolina teams and happen to lose a few of them, they'll say we didn't win enough. You can't beat the selection committee when they are hell-bent on keeping the money with the big boys. The only way in is to win the tournament. Until the MAC stops having half the conference with 200+ RPIs, we'll never make it in as an at-large. Playing EMU, Ball State, and the like only hurts us. I like the fact that KD isn't willing to sell out his players for money, and if you talk to the players they like it this way too. Our scheduling has gotten better over the years with KD. This year is an upgrade over last year in terms of the mid-major competition we play, just like last year was an upgrade over the previous year because of the exclusion of money games. We'll get more respect as time goes on and the wins rack up. Hopefully we'll get teams like Gonzaga to start coming here, and then maybe some weak high-major conference teams. It will take time, and we're a very impatient bunch.
  14. Zippy needs your vote! Thanks WKYC!
  15. Do we want Goldy or Hairy Dawg? Sound's like a "pick your poison" scenario to me.Zippy is up 119-65, but we all know that any sized lead is not safe against these guys, especially with both Goldy and HD fans voting against us.
  16. Just got back from the game. Akron only misses 1 FT to shoot over 95% on the night. Quade goes 9-9 and hits a three, had many gigantic earth-rocking dunks, and some major swats on defense. Wood is a monster that cannot be stopped inside. Cedrick is back. McNeese is growing and maturing. This entire team just gets better and better.Dambrot mentioned that the team did not practice a single FT on thursday or friday. He called it reverse psychology. I don't care what he calls it as long as it works.
  17. Some halftime scores in the MAC:Miami 22, #10 Louisville 21Toledo 28, #11 Pitt 34Lamar 38, NIU 30
  18. Tonight Akron plays Wyoming at 7:00 at the JAR. I think we're 9 point favorites. I see improvement every game from the Zips in terms of players discovering their roles and in knowing what to do on the court. Free throws are quickly becoming the bane of this team. KD says they're practicing them, but I have yet to see an improvement especially when the game is on the line.Other games in the MAC today and my predictions:Miami @ #10 Louisville (That's a loss)Toledo @ #11 Pitt (Another loss)NIU vs. Lamar (NIU is bad, but so is Lamar)Bowling Green @ Oakland (BG could win, and a loss would be bad)CMU @ Detroit (This should be interesting because of all the CMU fans in Detroit for the MACC football game)EMU @ Notre Dame (Another loss)Buffalo vs. Evansville (should be a win)K.S.U.C.K.S @ NC Greenburough (A loss looks bad for either team)Ball State @ Valparaiso (another loss)WMU @ SanDiego State (another loss)I'm predicting another bad day for the MAC, and any hopes of an at-large bid for the conference finally being destroyed.
  19. Getting rid of the Odd Corner is very simple. The student government should organize a campaign to encourage all university customers of the Odd Corner to buy their bowls, bongs and rolling papers at another store. Boycotts have traditionally worked well in US history. Why not one here?Because we have the most apathetic student population in the country? They don't care what the cause is for; they won't do it. You couldn't organize them to actively do something even if you rewarded every student with a semester of free tuition.
  20. You might as well be watching this thing on mute. The time of the game sucks too. It's way too early for most of the country to be watching football on a saturday. Not to mention that both teams are looking pretty pathetic. They will both be blown out in their bowl games if they play like they are now. I see absolutely no speed on the field.
  21. It will most likely go like this. unless some dramatic changes and a whole bunch of upsets happen on saturday: CMU-Michigan State for the Motor City Bowl should provide for a capacity crowd at Ford Field.Bowling Green will most likely play in the GMAC bowl, but they are waiting until after the MAC championship to pick.Ball State-Rutgers in the International Bowl.
  22. All the properties are on the land that would be for the dorms, not the stadium, from what I can tell. I am almost positive that UA could start building the entire stadium as soon as the students move out of the current dorms. They can get a lot done even with a few holdouts.
  23. Are you sure about the membership thing still being in effect? How was it that about 1/3 of them just looked like plain old students, who sat down and simply watched the game? Or maybe they are taking kids from the upper seats and putting them down there to fill in like last year. That may be what I was seeing. Either way, $10 is ridiculously cheap for all the benefits of being a member of the organization.
  24. 1.) That would be a great idea. The problem is that the U doesn't seem to care, despite KD wanting more students down there and more students wanting to actually be down there, the U would just as soon sell the whole section off for a quick buck and put the students in the rafters. At least that's the vibe I get from them.2.) The membership requirement to sit down low is gone. I can not stress this enough: ANY STUDENT CAN SIT BEHIND THE BASKETS. You don't need a shirt, but with the Rowdies tripling in size over last year, most of them do have the shirts and those that go wear them. The membership fees go towards other stuff like organising road trips, not the right to sit in the lower section of the JAR. The students that still choose to sit in the upper area do so of their own accord. Maybe they don't feel like standing for the whole game or don't feel the need to cheer on their team next to the court. Maybe they are there simply because they have nothing better to do, not because they support Zips athletics. But they won't come down, and to be honest, if they are like that, I don't want them down there.3.) Back to the basics is a good thing. Many Rowdies simply heckle the opponent's bench warmers and are more interested in jawing with some 7' lurch than with cheering on the team and creating that loud home-court advantage. The entirety of the Rowdies leaders are on the band side. A few need to be on the other side so we can have coordinated efforts. Being out of synch was a problem last year as well.
  25. 1 & 2 tie in together. The Rowdies that are at the games are the same group of about 20 students that go to all the football and soccer games as well. They are loud, but remember that 90% of the Rowdies are freshmen this year and they still haven't learned the chants or what is expected of them as members of the student organization.3.) We have cheers for Wood, Dials, Middleton, McNees (involves profanity, so it must be used sparingly), Linhart, and Goddard. Cheers for the rest will come with time as we see what they are capable of and how they react to the cheers. Most of last year's chants seemed to be spontaneous and just seemed to catch on.4.) I try not to do that, personally. Many of the people who insert "you suck" into every other cheer are freshmen or fraternity members, it seems. The freshmen just came from high school where the cheers are a bit more immature than what should be done in college. Immaturity wears off with time and experience. We'll have to deal with this until it wears off.5.) The signs come with the cheers, and most of the signs from last year survived and are being re-used. Occasionally you'll see some signs brought out for "special occasions" and against certain teams. The AK-Rowdies have certain rules that have to be followed as an official student group that limits what signs we can use for heckling the opponents. I'm working on a few and you should see them in a few games.6.) We have "The Rowdie", which has lots of juicy info obtained from the player's myspace and facebook profiles during important games, and we routinely use rosters to get inside the opponents heads and to know who we are facing. You can't hear it most of the time because we don't need to yell since the opponents bench is right next to us, plus a lot of times the stuff we say is not stuff you want to be yelling with kids in the building.7.) We try to work with the cheerleaders as often as possible when they do chants. But we are NOT allowed on the floor under ANY circumstances or we will be kicked out, so going out and helping them is a no-go.8.)We're doing the best with what we currently have. More attendance is the key to more crazyness.
